  1. Beautiful. Farthest west I have been is Dallas and all I got to see was the inside of an office at the time.
  2. Looks like you have something setup very similar to benefits I have been to in the past. As far as I know those have worked out very well for the families and it is very humbling seeing everyone that is there to support. Wish him all the best!
  3. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/01/08/nyregion/de-blasio-health-care-plan.html We are just going to give health care to illegal immigrants? To the tune of 100 million plus? I get my health insurance through my wife. She works for Statefarm. We pay a small fortune for our family health plan. We had to switch from CDPHP (because it become unaffordable) to Blue Cross Blue Shield with much larger copays and still pay a small fortune. My wife and I could each be driving new cars/trucks for what we pay in health care each month but if break into this country you now get it for free? Article says they will even hand out health cards. Probably more valuable than my crappy Blue Cross blue shield health card. I just don't get how these people get votes from hard working Americans.
  4. The deer in my avatar is the biggest deer I have ever killed. The thought of having it scored never crossed my mind. Doesn't matter at all to me, I was super proud of it and it is displayed proudly on the wall of my family room along with the first 8 pt I ever shot. I have no idea if it scores 100" or 150", nor do I really care. I certainly wouldn't pay money just to have it on some list somewhere.
  5. That would have never been me. I have always slowed way down for any one on skis or hiking. I crawl by them, wave and give them plenty of room. The trail isn't just for me. Although I am positive not everyone is like that. It wouldn't shock me if you told me you have been sprayed with snow with some of the people out there.
  6. I don't know the last time you have ridden a snowmobile but I can cruise through 75% of MRP at 50 to 55 MPH riding with one hand on the handlebar. Snowmobiles don't ride and drive like they used to even a few short years ago. Most of MRP is 4 or more sleds wide. Riding the way I was riding was NOT suicidal, more like a Sunday afternoon cruise. I can't say snowmobiling isn't dangerous. It is but that is because of people driving crazy speeds and by crazy I mean frequently people are riding 100+ MPH. Mix that with alcohol and a failure to keep right in corners and it is a deadly combination. I used to ride crazy when I was younger. Now I am very aware of the dangers, slow way down when I can't see far ahead, and stay as far right as possible (hugging the trees) on all corners full expecting an oncoming sled that may be out of control.
  7. I'm not going to drive all the way up to Inlet to fight a ticket that doesn't affect my license. Won't be worth the time, gas etc even if I was to beat it. I used to ride like a maniac on my sleds. If I am being honest I am very lucky that I never caused a serious accident when I was younger and hurt somebody else or myself. I still like to rip it sometimes when I can see a good distance. Who doesn't. But like I said to my buddy on Saturday, in the more than 20 years we have been snowmobiling we have never ridden more calmly than we did today and today is when I get a ticket. That ranger had to have followed me for 6 or 7 miles. Not one time was I out of control or on the wrong side of the trail, I slowed way down for the corners and stayed right way right because it is always in my mind how I used to ride. I guess I have to look at it as its the ticket for the million times I deserved one and never got one.
  8. I was snowmobiling up in Moose River Plains on Saturday and got a speeding ticket from a forest ranger. I was riding with a buddy and following him I got snow dust on my heated shield and it had been melting. I was wiping it off with my glove every few minutes when I finally decided I needed to pull over and wipe my shield off. I pulled over and wiped my shield and proceeded down the trail to catch up too or meet up with my riding partner. I am riding along at a steady pace, not racing to catch up or driving crazy by any means when I see I have a snowmobile in my mirror right on my ass. I slow down to less than 30 MPH on two straight aways giving plenty of room for him to pass and he doesn't so I start riding again like I was and he is still right on my ass. So I pick the pace up and ride a little faster watching this guy in my mirror and he is still right on my ass. I am thinking to myself boy if I was younger I would just blow your doors in and get you off my butt. I ride a couple miles and my buddy is in the trail up ahead and I give him a wave letting him know I am ok and he takes off and now I am following my buddy again. We ride I am guessing 3 or so more miles to the ranger station that is at the entrance to Moose River Plains and as we go through the ranger station I am putting along and still wondering why this guy doesn't pass me. At this point I am really annoyed and I am going to say something to him. When my buddy pulls over to take a break and chat I pull up next to him and this guy pulls up next to me and I am going to go off when I notice it says forest ranger all over his sled so I say how you doing? He says good, do you know what the speed limit is? I said there is a speed limit? and he says yes, its 25 mph and you were doing 65 MPH at some points. I wanted to say yea that was to get you off my ass but I just said, I saw the 25 MPH signs but I thought those were for cars in the camp ground in the summer time. He says no, that is for anything motorized. We let you go up to 55 MPH but anything more than that and are writing tickets and asks me for my license and Reg which I give him. He then tells me that he is going to do my this HUGE favor and only write me a ticket for not following a DEC sign instead of a speeding ticket that will effect my license and give me points etc. So my ticket says something to the effect of failure to obey a DEC sign 65 MPH in a 25 MPH. So my question is: Is it possible to get a speeding ticket on a snowmobile that will affect your license? I can't imagine the points on a ticket for doing 65 in a 25. I don't see how a speeding ticket on a sled can affect your license. You have to be 12 to ride a sled. What if I was 12 and didn't have a license or didn't have one now? I was really annoyed. I can't say for sure but I doubt I was driving over 50 until this guy was pushing me. I got passed numerous times that day buy people riding way over 65 MPH. Every time we stopped somewhere the other sleds stopped the people were drinking beer. I didn't even have a beer at lunch. So in the 70 miles or so I rode Saturday I saw at least 40 or 50 people drinking on the side of the trail, got passed at least 10 times by people that had to be doing 80 plus, some I am sure pushing 100 mph in the straight aways and that day I was the problem.
  9. Its amazing to me that you can look at a log and see something like that in it. And then have the talent to be able to make it is truly remarkable. Thanks for sharing your work.
  10. I don't know much of anything about coyote hunting but why would anyone choose 12 gauge slug with those options? Brush shots?
  11. I don't know if that is saying much Moog. You posted pics of your hunting this year. I could have been comfortable in some cheap long john bottoms and a t-shirt. Beer in my hand watching the game. Not sure if that is a selling point for your gear.
  12. I have noticed this everytime it has shutdown. I always said we should just get rid of everyone that is shutdown. We obviously don't need them.
  13. This is why I haven't looked into a new bow. I don't feel like there is a need too at the moment. I am not sure that the improvement I would be getting, even from a midlevel bow at the time would be worth the cost. I don't know what the cost is to have strings and cables replaced but at somepoint I am going to have to weigh whether or not that is worth the cost vs a new bow. Do you spend (guessing) $150 bucks on strings and cables on a bow that would be worth maybe $200 on craigslist?
  14. I don't know anything about the traditional equipment but I can see how purchasing a handmade traditional bow with the wood grain etc. (excuse me if I sound ignorant talking about traditional equipment) Is completely different than purchasing a compound bow or crossbow. They are just as much things of beauty like a quality rifle old or new as they are a hunting implement. I can see purchasing a traditional bow and being intent on keeping it forever.
  15. So the 986th crossbow inclusion thread made me think about the way I think about my hunting implements. I don't own a firearm that I ever plan on selling. They have either been passed down to me (many are older than me) or they were purchased by me because they were what I wanted. Every firearm I own I plan on owning for the rest of my life. There really isn't a firearm at this time that I feel like I need to add to the gun cabinet. But if I ever do feel like I need to add another it will be exactly what I want and I will plan on owning it for the rest of my life. I don't look at my archery equipment that way. I view my archery equipment as something to get me through until the next something to get me through. I believe I purchased my bow in 2012. It's a Bowtech Assassin. I would have characterized this bow as a midlevel bow when I purchased it. There were much cheaper alternatives but also much much more expensive ones. I didn't purchase this bow thinking I would be hunting with it for the rest of my life so it was hard for me to invest in top dollar equipment. I put my own site and rest on it the season I purchased it and have been hunting with it that way ever since. I can't really think of anything I don't like about it, but still don't see this as the bow that will be hanging in my treestand in 20 years. When crossbow got a season I wanted a crossbow. Being that it was a 2 week season meaning I would likely only hunt a maximum of 4 days a year with it, I again didn't want to invest top dollar on a crossbow. Like the bow I didn't think this would be a piece of equipment that I would have for ever either. So I purchased a cheaper crossbow (Barnett Gamecrusher), swapped out the optics with a Nikon Bolt XR (thinking I could use this on any crossbow I purchase in the future) and have been hunting with that. I don't feel like I need to upgrade either at this time but would like to upgrade both at somepoint. (unless full inclusion happens, then I would probably only use a crossbow) So am I thinking incorrectly about archery equipment? Do any of you purchase a crossbow or bow thinking you will never need another one? I would have no issue dropping a grand on a crossbow if I knew I was going to be hunting with it for the next 30 or 40 years. But my guess is that will never happen. They will get faster, lighter, more accurate, less cumbersome etc. Unlike my firearms, archery equipment is always improving. I think you could make an argument that firearms are going the opposite direction. Is it wrong to look at archery equipment as throwaway equipment? Am I seeing it wrong?
  16. Fasteddie said his reason for being against full inclusion. Its because his Bows would collect dust if full inclusion of crossbow came about. Although I voted for full inclusion, I have voted against it in the past for the same exact reason. If they pass full inclusion of crossbow into archery. I doubt I will ever use my bow again. Not because I don't like. Just because I am going to use the best instrument for the job. In reality, I would probably sell my Bow and entry level crossbow and purchase a much better crossbow. The way the season is now, it is hard for me to justify having a ton of money tied up in a crossbow. I don't see a crossbow as being something you have for the rest of your life like the rifle you have always wanted. So spending a ton of money on a crossbow for a two week season for me is out of the question at the moment. If my cheap crossbow breaks during the two weeks, I will just grab my bow for the rest of the season. This gives me a thought for a new topic.
  17. When my buddy turned 40 a couple months ago I got him a bag full of stuff. Ben Gay, Icy Hot, Poly Dent, Hemroid Cream, Can't remember what else. I basically just walked around CVS and grabbed stuff. At least 1 of us thought it was funny...
  18. That was a cool video. Wish I could run into a deer that dumb with a rack like that at least once.
  19. If Cuomo gets his way it won't need to be a stash.....Just throw it up on the dash!
  20. I have never done it, but I have found a few while wandering off trail in our local nature preserve.
