  1. I have seen fields turned over and planted this spring, that haven't seen a plow in decades Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  2. His blend is indeed nice. The loggers ripped my clover plot up this April May. Forgot to mention I will be trying rutabaga as well in comparison to PTT. I've heard they need a few more days to mature but grow slightly bigger, and are much sweeter than a PTT. Looking forward to this experiment.. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  3. Late start with rains, I see farmers still putting in corn as well as beans all over in my travels Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  4. In Steuben County I like to plant Brassicas around the last week of July and First week of August.. but depending on which plants you seed, some take an extra 30 days to mature. Depending on when rain is in the forecast I try to time it around that, unless it's been a good "moist" summer lol I won't worry then. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  5. Same here, on my property in 8F with a lot of ag land. Brassicas are barely even nibbled on. Even after everything is harvested and tilled under.. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  6. I always have at least 1 or 2 plots of Brassica Blends for the fall/Winter. As of right now all of my food plot acreage is planted to soybeans, minus a couple logging roads that were seeded clover this spring. I will be over seeding Brassicas into the Soybeans come August. And Some Heavy Cereal Grains In September. Trying to find a decent place to buy cereal grains from, but i bought my brassicas from DeerAg last year and will do so again this year. I try to keep something growing in my plots at all times of the year, it helps with my No Till plantings. No extra time for plots this summer so this is how it has to be lol.
  7. I don't like to put out cams until Mid Late July. when each buck is distinguishable and nearing fully "growed" ,, Though fawn pics are always nice, i just don't have the time to stay after cams right now. I know my property pretty well from hunting and using it over the last 2 decades. though it slightly changes year to year, the property I hunt next door was recently logged heavily so I'm sure things are going to change this year. But this year ill depend on cams mainly in the logged sections that way i can stay out for the most part and only pull cards occasionally and just observe from a distance. Though i did have to pull 3 stands for the loggers to get wood out. and without many decent trees left, tactics may change a bit there. lol
  8. Nice, with all the rains and cooler temps recently it looks like we are finally in for a good warm up and some sunshine to get things really taking off. I am looking forward to it. Put in my 2 other soybean plots last night, they are earlier maturing conventional beans so i can overseed the the greens come August and September and they should take off good. Cant wait to see the results, A seclusion cage and a trail cam will probably each be put up per plot. i have just under 4 acres of bean between 3 spots. All 3 spots are within a 1/3 of mile from each other. Early Bow and Late seasons should be good!!
  9. Update on Plot:I planted the Plot its self(not the logging Rd) with Real World Soybeans on 5/31/17. Later than i wanted to but, as we all know the weather hasn't been the best. I also overseeded the southern half of the plot with Trophy Clovers from DeerAg, and seeded the new logging rd that joins it from the west side with these clovers as well. With all the rain we had germination is better than expected for sure. Cant wait to see how this turns out. This years plot is about 3x the size it was last year and mostly it should be soybeans unless they get over browsed. 2nd pic is 8 days after planting, and the day i over seeded the clovers. You can see the clovers on the ground with the soybean seeds.I only scratched the surface, spread the soybeans and rolled them in..
  10. Id do a clover blend, red and whites with a cereal grain. Then in end of July-early August, overseed Turnips/Radish and or Rutabaga then mow it clean (no clumps) after seeding. Use the cut vegetation as a mulch to cover seed.
  11. Equipment and time is always a problem of mine. Just got my wheeler all tuned up this Winter and it runs good, used it all day Wednesday to get one of my Soybean Plots, As i finished rolling the plot it started acting up again as usual. So i raced home to park it before getting stranded way back yonder. And i do not have my tractor squared around yet, it hurts not having the tractor running. Getting behind in a hurry. Makes quick work of a lot of things. Might be in the market for a new quad come Fall.
  12. I got out 5 times this Spring. More than i expected to get out. I called in atleast one longbeard each day out, but no good shots presented.. Either Brush in between us or the birds came in silent and behind or over the wrong shoulder. I would have to say it wasnt an easy season, but i had action every single day, besides the last sit. And I consider that a good Season, especially compared to last years. Had jakes on the cameras but i never saw one all season. Hunting pretty pressured birds.
  13. Grow, if you want to go local. Phil Jones SEEDWAY on Rte 21 in Fremont, sells per pound. He has a decent selection to chose from. Also 382-9525 As well as kilburys in arkport but you know how I feel about him with certain things Lol Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  14. It is sort of over kill, but as the topic asked.. and many others shared in agreement.. the 3.5" is a common load with a ton of recoil out of the right(or wrong) gun.. . I have yet to wound a turkey.. maybe its the 3.5"? Just sayin..
  15. My 535 Mossberg with a 3.5" Turkey load is an absolute cannon. I think the gun weighs around 5 or 6 pounds. Very light gun, plus all that power. I put a red dot on it so I don't have to put my cheek down on the gun. If I don't pay attention my lip and cheek take a serious beating. And I'll end up looking like I left the bar after running my mouth all night. Its the Turkey combo and has the built in "synthetic" cheek plate. It throws a killer pattern but it throws some killer kicks too lol Thought about lengthening the forcing cone to 1.5-2", to see if I can lighten up the recoil some.
  16. I picked up 41% and mixed a 2% ratio. Not sure what's right and wrong. Some of the weeds did not die after, the mustard from last year's brassicas didn't phase them at all. . I will spray aging once my soybeans are up and going. And mix a bit heavier probably. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  17. IMO they could care less for small grains this time of year. Depending on surrounding habitat.. the small grain can act as cover for fawns and poults. There's alot of forage to chose from now with green up and ag fields being planted. I just started using gly this year. I used to spray with concentrate round up. I'd just spray it let it dry up then seed it and roll it. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  18. I've sprayed one day and my only option to till was 2 or 3 days later. It worked the tiller a tad more but everything died off good still with no issues. Seeded the same day as well Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  19. Just sitting tight in a spot they spend alot of time early in the am. Hen came in and putted around. She left, just sitting here quiet, no calling no deeks. Not a single gobble anywhere Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  20. I do not miss the woodpecker that would come by nearly every summer on and off throughout.. pecking the hell out of the chimney pipe on the house at 6am. It was every morning for the longest time. Other than that they are neat to watch.
  21. There's a well known deer processor about a 1/2 mile south. Uses to be Maiers mud acres. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  22. 1st picture.. I own 17 acres(Camp) 8P which includes a small farm house with water and electric, and an beautiful old Barn. I have basically exclusive right to 2 properties that bud up to us. One property is 33 acres, and the other is around 125 acres. I have 5 food plots spread out across the 3 properties. This hill is managed pretty good, minus a few surrounding properties that will fill any tag any way possible. 2nd picture...My family also owns 150 acres in 8F ... I dont hunt this as much, I leave it for my brother, cousins and uncles to hunt.
  23. Same here, if a bird is already fired up, it seems they gobble at a crow or owl or anything for that matter. Maybe its everywhere but there are an insane amount of crows at my place. If we try to get a shock gobble the evening before, we wait til they are in the tree and darkness is falling, then hit them with a pot and pan and loud, one big clang. Has worked well quite a few times where others calls rarely ever work. Coyote howler has worked before on distant birds. But overall it seems the wood pecker or peacock call works best but still seldom works where we are. Been quiet mornings on the roost here too.. but birds seem to be without hens the majority of the time..
  24. Just about yes. I confronted him about horrible germination I had and spending over 200$ in seed. He then said oh, yea that was last year's seed. Haven't got this year's in yet.. he then says here take take this 10% discount on your next purchase. Told him to keep it. I did hear there was an issue with getting new seed in with several dealers, but still. There's good ways of doing business and not so good ways.. lol Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  25. Picked up my soybeans elsewhere this year. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
