  1. Big storm coming today for western NY .. much needed rain for the food plots. Its quite dry out there. Was going to Mow my clover today ..
  2. One plot might be starchy and un sweetened corn then lol.. planted it along the edge of the field corn in one spot. ill try it but i used it more for a screen as well and to test winter hardiness and deer preference for future sites.. and of course if anything is left ill taste it lol The other plot is a few hundred yards from here... ill look for better more desirable results for my taste buds there
  3. Planted a big patch of sweet corn Saturday, about 500 Stalks in case some fail... lol Cant wait to see how it turns out, First time trying it..
  4. I try to take my 22 month old daughter with me everywhere I go. Start her young.. Some may be against it but, I even let her shoot with me, a .22 pistol I have.. she loved it. She hates being inside, she will drive us absolutely nuts until we take her outside to play and roam around, so i take her anywhere i can. whether its on the boat, the woods, the wheeler, the tractor.. you name it. Shes an outdoor baby for sure!!! I look forward to every memory we can make... On top of that.. my summer is always spent, fixing and staying up on camp projects, my Dad was taken from us too soon in March, so its all on me now. ITs hard being there without him but i cherish all the good times. The picnics every other weekend, family BBQ all the time Food plots, hang trail cams when July rolls around.. prep stands. Id like to build a box blind for my fiance this summer, but with a July 30th Wedding, my time is limited this year, as well as finances.. lol This is my daughter Alivia and I going to till a food plot 2 weekends ago.. she loved it...
  5. Soybeans are awesome, they'll eat them once they start growing until they are gone. The only time they typically don't eat em is when they are yellow in color.. get ready for some action lolSent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  6. Saturday over the long weekend, i got my 2 acre soybean plot in, with a screen of field corn going around 3/4 of it, and a few rows of sweet corn as well(for my own consumption, if the deer do not beat me to it lol) we also got a quick heavy storm right afterwards. Just hoping its enough to make some germination quicker. Looking forward to it. I have never planted corn before, and i hope the screen works for entering/exiting my stand.. also helping the deer stay at ease a bit longer.. as well as a small winter feed source. Providing the coons dont tear it all apart..
  7. Yea as grow says, lol.. or to do so cheaply and quick, like my limited time only allows me. lol id spray it off with round up, mow it down low. If you can get ph test for soil, do so asap.. then lime and fertilize, and then with your wheeler or tractor work the top few inches of soil. If no soil test can be done, if no ph test this summer, after soil is broken up, just plant some buckwheat with clover, or turnips/clover come late july/ early august..
  8. Lol, thanks grow.. I appreciate the advice! Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  9. Never noticed your past posts on this.. I don't search this forum in depth a whole awful lot lol Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  10. I will be using feed corn from now on. I was going to hit it with nitrogen before the next rain. Your corn plots look awesome Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  11. It is my first time planting field corn, i was not under the impression that the seed was the same as feed corn. lol. kinda bummed because i could have saved the money and went to the local feed shop. but i paid 42$ for 25# they did give me an extra 5# with my purchase which was nice.. we learn from our mistakes, or trial and error i should say. I planted the screen last night, an 8-10" path around the outside edge of my soybean plot.. i till it up several times in the last a couple weeks so the dirt was perfect, i broadcast the seed just a tad on the heavy side, and adjusted my tiller to 2" depth and skimmed the top of soil to put the seed in around 2" deep as they suggested 1.5-2" and no less than 1".. see how it comes out, got a good hour long down pour immediately after planting. should be good. The majority of the seed was under the soil.. Next year ill purchase feed corn to plant knowing this lol..
  12. For small Seed food plots, that's all you need.. just a few inches. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  13. Soybeans will go in tonight, the plot is prepped.. my field corn has not arrived yet, i will just be using it as a screen for a couple plots, and sweet corn will go in when the field corn arrives.. this weekend hopefully..
  14. Thats normal, hens split off on their own when their nesting .. i see it all the time
  15. Are the tom numbers low in the area? they may be bred and nesting already.. im sure they'll fly down and go their separate ways after an hour or so on the ground.. to lay on the nest?
  16. When i had my whisker biscuit, id shoot 50yrds all day in the back yard with it.. never had an issue i would have tried further but needed more pins lol
  17. (3) TILLED UP PLOTS FROM LAST YEAR, ...AND THE MACHINE THAT DOES THE GRUNT WORK LOL
  18. I run a 4' king kutter tiller on my 28hp CAT and it does great even on virgin soil.. i only have it set to till 3-4" of soil. no need to work the full 6-8" depths.. theyre just food plots lol.. plus its harder on the machine/equipment... if slip clutch is set right it shouldnt be too bad.. it still doesnt like big rocks but does a good job and fast, so you can go over it a second time or three if needed I have the bolts on my slip clutch backed off to where they are free, then hand snugged then tightened with a wrench about a 1/4- 1/2 a turn more, and that is all, any more than that the slip clutch wont work ... took me awhile to find its sweet spot.. lol
  19. I shot a whisker biscuit on my Mathews Outback for many years. IT worked great. When i bought my Mathews Z7 5 years ago, i bought a fully contained drop away from QAD and i have never had a problem once with it, and its sent a thousand or more arrows.. I have no complaints.. i say go with a fully contained drop away, the whisker biscuit is nice but your fletchings make contact with the rest on every pass through which creates resistance... very minimal but its still resistance that i felt could be avoided by using a drop away.. Either way, both good hunting setups..
  20. a young buck to me is anything 2.5 yrs and under.. ideally and technically a 3.5yr old buck is considered young in QDM.. i pass every 1.5 and 2.5, and alot of 3.5 yr old bucks, but not all. only for the fact that we have a good plan working on our hill.. "to only shoot what we would mount" that gives Most all younger deer a chance to live and grow. I cant speak for the other 1/3 of the properties around me that shoot anything brown.. they pay there license pay there taxes, work their full time or more than full time job and provide for their families.. so i dont blame them. Yea i would like them to pass the younger bucks and let them grow.. resulting in more "meat harvested per bullet/time spent" but thats their choice..
  21. Happens ever year, and i think with a lot of critters, first few weeks of great weather, new green up all over, new fawns, new babies all over. The curiosity in them all and the lack of caution they have (unlike fall/winter months) keeps them out more during daylight hours.. the danger isnt present now like it is come fall and winter... another opinion ive had lol
  22. Of course, I only stated that it was a joke, because I was looking at the same picture of a document as phade was.. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  23. if so, would you be interested in redoing a mount I have?
  24. IT WAS JUST A JOKE TO GET PEOPLE FIRED UP LOL
  25. when that tom is lonely it seems legit and simple that he will come into calling and or a decoy setup.. but a wise pressured bird will not very easily.. all depends on the pressure.. Alot of properties are different and the pressure is always different from property to property, and im sure the way birds react to pressure, calling, vehicle traffic and people presence is always different too from place to place.. Ive got a ton of birds at my place but they get hunted hard so i believe the gobbling may be decreased just from pressure alone..
