  1. Crab grass. spray it with gly. let it die completely. Stuff comes on strong as summer droughts kick in.. Every year in July and August it comes through anywhere it can as grasses go dormant with dry conditions... Do your new clover plot with a cereal grain this fall when ready, but no later than mid September.
  2. I would definitely add brassica/bulb with your clover seed. Or a cereal grain if you wont be planting for a few weeks. You'll need it as a nurse crop for a good clover stand next spring. IF it were me I would spread brassica seeds with your clovers asap and lawn roll/pack it in, or just let the rain do its work. These are tiny seeds. they dont need to be under the soil to germinate. If you can roll or pack this seed it will germinate without rain, as long as some moisture is in the soil.. You can broadcast before rain and rain will bury your seed here for you. as long as it isn't a torrential downpour that washes your seed away. That is a perfect plot setup for how i plant all of my plots. no disking/tilling. I didnt take pics but towards the end of July, I sprayed all my plots. Spread seed a few days later and I Let the rain do its job. 2 weeks later i have a beautuful growing brassica plot. Last week i even sprayed my back yard at camp and spread a huge blend of legumes, grains and brassicas and rolled them in the very same day while green still. I now have everything popping up great as the lawn dies out..
  3. Does anyone here ever attend these banquets? Ill keep an eye out for ya lol.
  4. I figured id wait until they were 5 or 6 inches tall and hit them with urea. They are a few inches tall now. Yea i definitely dont want big bulbs. One of the plots i wouldnt mind if they were big, because I mainly planted the bulbs to bust up the ground and build up organic matter. helps my no till a little bit.
  5. Thanks for the tip! Sorry didnt realize there was another reply here.. I have been looking for one more good place to compare prices at. I normally would be all over the 30 packs.. but i have a buddy who wants to go in halves and reload.. He had the idea of reloading way too many at once and they didnt perform to his needs.. We will be loading a few from v max, ELD M, sierra MKHP, and berger bullets.. Ranging from 52-75 gr.. kinda excited.
  6. Perfect, bet they'll look good come time the leaves start changing! Thats what the forecast looked like when i planted last week of July. I learned a lesson this year. Doing no till i typically seed 1.25-1.5x the normal rate, expecting around 80% germ.. Well when there is that much rain in the forecast, and we get it all.. stick to normal seed rates lol. Brassica plantings look a tad heavy this year. Think i may have to incorporate some fert/urea soon to make sure they make it well. Its not super thick, but a little thicker than id like..
  7. I may have a couple. but wont know for a few weeks yet. Gotta get a couple re hung that i had to pull due to logging.
  8. Fall plots should look good for most everyone i think. Now fingers crossed we get a little more around the First of September for some cereal grain and clover plantings.
  9. Not sure where abouts you live, but we had a quick real heavy storm roll through here Monday evening, plus some more rain yesterday. Looks like some promising small storms in the next few days as well!
  10. Nice, I love seeing fresh dirt lol. What did you plant in each?
  11. Man, If i wasn't buying a new house right now....
  12. Nice work, are those crab apples standing in the center of the plots?
  13. 12ga, ML, 30-06, and Bow Cant forget the car, got 2 with it last fall, in the same right front corner of the car both times.. take the hammer to it, straightener back up some and she's still locked cocked and ready to rock lol
  14. I love getting bachelor buck groups on trail cam. That is a little shocker of a date! I usually get some good brawls on food plots, but not until after deer season ends usually ..These guys went at it for a bit as well.. couple of the better pics. Date is 2016, not 2006 3rd pic i like b/c of the clarity, the bucks angle.. and if you look in the background there is a 68" shed laying in the food plot.
  15. Nice everyone! since I've had kids, i haven't really been able to stay at "camp" And use it as a camp, but now as they grow a bit older, I can bring them along and show them the ropes! MY 4yr old daughter loves helping.. So that should be fun.
  16. When it rains, it pours is a saying I know oh so well lol. The forecast is calling for some rain here in southerntier on and off all week. Fingers crossed it hits everyone. Still way behind the average for this time of year..
  17. That is awesome. Perfect camp! I thought i had a picture of our house but guess not, Its a small 2 story farm house.. that always needs a little TLC.. especially when you cant be their all the time.
  18. Just thought Id share a photo from the front porch of my Camp in 8P.. Been in the family for around 30 years now... Anyone else have shots from camp or their home away from home!!??
  19. This buck loved the camera, Which never happens with any of our mature deer here.. If they find the camera, Good luck getting their pic again unless you move the cam and hide it well.. and use Black flash. First pic you can see where my sabot grazed his belly... 2nd pic thought was kinda neat
  20. Did you get your rains ltdh? I know in Steuben county we got around 4 inches in the last couple weeks. Plots are taking off. I dont use fert, but my brassica blends are up about 3 inches in 10 days. Perfect for coming out of that drought.
  21. If your willing to drive outside of Rochester a bit, drive down to Hall, NY Seedway Headquarters.. get whatever you want. If not, and agway or seedway dealer can hook you up.
  22. I have a ton of pics that are saved to my phone that make the favorites, and saved in the archives. But i think my all time favorite is this guy... And I will tell you all, with no shame in my game.. I missed both these boys the year prior, one during bow, other last day of gun.. The pretty 10 right here where this cam is, and the big brow tine boy about 300 yards away.. That would have been one hell of a season.. and taxidermy bill lol Both were killed that year this pic was taken. Big 10 scored 157 after deductions, never heard about the other guy..
  23. Every chance i get, I send the pain! lol. I've been in my stands many of times, mostly during archery season. and have 3 or 4 or 5 packs all light up around me, within a half mile or so, IT is awesome to hear.. but we all know what that means. As for that, our deer numbers are pretty good. Not as good as they were once, but the quality has greatly improved. Yet not as bad as the DEC thinks our area is.. according to DMP issuance..
  24. I always thought that with raccoons and what not, but do coyotes really prey on coons and possum? I have an insane number of coons around. I mean alot. Which leads me to think the coyote do not prefer a coon, because i highly doubt a raccoon will outsmart a coyote, heck they cant outsmart a moving vehicle that never leaves between the white and yellow lines lol
  25. Since the rain started almost 2 weeks ago.. we have received around 3 or 4 inches. I scratched a plot the other day and the soil was moist yet. perfect seeding conditions. Plus with these quick rain showers everyday or so.. germination has been great this year.
