  1. .416 Rigby. I almost had one in 2004, my wife was at the shop to order a Ruger #1 for me for Christmas until she saw that a box of shells was over a hundred bucks. Instead she bought my 1895M .450 Marlin.
  2. I like them for basically the same reasons. Easier for me to prime the tabs and keep them in my pocket than to try loading a primer alone in the cold. Neat idea though.
  3. www.bowguru.com If you're already looking in Rome take the extra few minutes to run up to Holland Patent and see Ian Brucker at Lillie's Agway. Great guy and is good about working on stuff that others turn up their noses at. I have an old Darton compound from 1986 that several other shops wouldn't even look at but he took it in and worked on it like I was buying a $1500 bow.
  4. Got my Muzzleloader buck back from Randy.
  5. Any theaters in your area? Not movieplex theaters but theater theaters, with stages. There's one close to me and I try to take my wife to a performance when we can get away. I think they have some sort of season pass. Could always name a star after her or buy a waterfront lot on beautiful Tellico Lake in the Smoky Mountains of Tennesee. A subscription to Carbonite or some Super Beta Prostate? Sorry, I listen to a lot of AM radio.
  6. I wouldn't be worried so much about the take being too high but more about stressing the deer farther along into winter. Later probably isn't that big a deal in the Carolinas where the winters are a lot milder.
  7. It wasn't really that long, I just realized that the money and retirement was the only reason I had been interested and I didn't think that was a good reason to do something like that. In the end no one would be happy.
  8. I took the Trooper test a few years back but by the time they called I'd decided it wasn't going to be for me so I turned it down.
  9. Waaait a minute, I just realized something... Why do you want to know what to give MY wife anyway???
  10. Every year there's a swap thread on here. Watch for it and maybe you'll find someone who needs a 7J. You do realize that by getting a 7J you don't plan on using, someone else who lives there can't get one right?
  11. I can't help; I got mine a Nikon D80 DSLR because she can still use the lenses for her film SLR with it, but you said no camera in the OP. I know my wife would be happy with about 40 lbs of goose jerky. I was up at deer camp for two days and she went through three geese worth of it!
  12. Nope. I would've shot him the night before with a crossbow in the headlights while he stood over the salt block.
  13. Every vehicle I've ever owned put together weren't worth $40 grand! Including sleds.
  14. The NRA has stated time and time again that they are a one issue organization. That is why they were able to endorse candidates like Harry Reid (who is FAR from "right wing") for Senate because based on their criteria, on their one issue, he was an acceptable candidate. I can't imagine why anyone would be the slightest bit interested in where the National RIFLE Association stands on abortion, gay marriage or Unions so why would they consider them in endorsing (or not) a particular candidate?
  15. I don't know, I had a banner year. I counted up my sightings on my DEC Bowhunter log and ended up with 57 deer total including 5 bucks. Granted some of them were probably the same deer but still. I hunted a lot this year (I used all four weeks vacation and four of my personal days during deer season) from opening day bow and am still going and so far I have only had two outings where I didn't see at least one deer. That's even counting my trips up into 5H. I even ended up with two bucks.
  16. I was just talking about this animal with some friends from there last week. The word I got was apparently there was a farm right around there that had a bunch of them. They went out of business this spring and when they were loading the herd to send to sale/slaughter this one got loose. They couldn't catch it and weren't too concerned about it I guess.
  17. Yep. I found one crawling on my son's snow pants in January two years ago.
  18. I started deer hunting in '94 and got my first deer (6pt) in 2001 (7 YEARS ). I let a LOT of bucks walk waiting for a bigger one before I finally shot mine. This year during bow season I let a 6 walk and the same 5 twice. The second time I let that 5er go I shot my 11pt non-typical about 20 minutes later. If I'd shot the 5 I would've been dragging and never would've seen that big one.
  19. Just a few flakes blowing around. Colder than a Mother-in-law's kiss though.
  20. When I read stubby's post I didn't take it as people shooting at a noise, I took it as someone shooting at a deer but not being able to see a person who may be in range BEYOND the deer.
  21. Don't worry about it. I think your butt looks fine.
  22. How was that for hijacking a thread off onto a totally different tangent?
