  1. That's another case of NYC screwing the rest of the state. They can't ship ammo to New York City so in a case of C.Y.A. they probably won't ship it to any address with NY in it.
  2. "All around I see these signs that say 'Cheer up, things could be worse.' And you know, they're right. I cheered up and sure enough, things got worse."
  3. I probably wouldn't use one for hunting, but I'd really like to be able to use one target shooting. Every time I've shot at an animal I never hear the report anyway.
  4. Well all I know for sure is that since you can shoot 30-40 (or more) yards accurately with a compound and a handgun is (generally)also a short range weapon, they should legalize pistol-caliber handguns during bow season.
  5. Safest and easiest way to do it yourself is to buy and install a replacement trigger from Wild West Guns. I have one in my .450 Marlin, it only took about 20 minutes to install giving a better pull and getting rid of that floppy trigger the Marlins have. $88 at Midway USA. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/259762/wild-west-guns-rifle-trigger-marlin-336-444-1894-1895-blue?cm_vc=1800BrandPopProd Aside from that I'd take it to a good gunsmith.
  6. There you go, now you know how well that worked out.
  7. I used to consider this too until NYS priced me right out of snowmobiling, now I care more about deer hunting. My sleds never leave the farm now so I can ride them whenever I want. Seems like most years anymore, at least around my area, the general "snowmobiler" population would be better off if trails opened later anyway. Always seems like we get 2-3" the week after Christmas and there is always some goofball who wants to get his moneys worth out of his new sled and rams around tearing everything up because there's no base. But that's an argument for an entirely different thread I guess.
  8. I go more along this line. I'd like it if there was a week or two between the end of regular season and the start of ML. I usually start to see more movement the last 3-4 days of ML season because the pressure has been so much lower and the deer seem to be settling back down a bit.
  9. I didn't think it got that cold in Zimbabwe, or wherever the heck it is you guys are from anyway.
  10. Say that three times fast!Hedonistic hunting in a heated hut, hedonistic hunting in a heated hut, hedonistic hunting in a heated hut.
  11. Do I want to do it? No. But then again I like to wander the Big woods up North and rarely even see deer. (Well, I would like to see one once in a while.) Do I care if anyone else does it? No. As long as they buy their license and keep it on their side of the property line they can hunt nekkid for all I care.
  12. There was an old fellow when I was a kid who was our neighbor who liked to hunt but could hardly walk. He would drive his truck up back and pull it into the weeds and sit on the edge of the field next to it in a lawn chair. It sure looked goofy but he usually got a deer and he got out when he otherwise wouldn't have been able to. This was back before everybody and his brother ripped around everywhere on 4-wheelers.

  14. All depends on the area. Where we hunt up in the Adirondacks it is pretty remote. This was the 17th year I've hunted in there and it was the first time I ever ran into another person who wasn't with our camp.
  15. I do and then I still forget something. Sometimes I forget the list.
  16. Southern Tier I usually carry my .30-06 but this year I am thinking about carrying my Mosin 91/30 in 7.62x54 just because I think it'll be neat. Northern Tier I usually carry a .450 Marlin or .30-30 because the levers are a little quicker handling and it is pretty thick where we hunt so shots are fast and close.
  17. Beat me to it. I was going to say that someone sent that pic to me on the phone like two or three years ago.
  18. X2. Well, all except the arthritis part.
  19. I had a straight 4x40 Swift on my .30-06. It is a nice scope but I decided I wanted a variable so I put the Swift on my muzzle loader and stuck a Bushnell 3-9x40 on the '06. I don't remember what I paid for the Swift but you want a variable anyway so it would be different, but they seem to be nice scopes.
  20. Something get ahold of it? It looks like his muzzle is all chewed up, unless it's just the way the picture is.
  21. If you're looking for something within a smaller budget for versatility for awhile, you could get by with just a 12ga shotgun. If you really want a rifle too I'd go with a .30-06 or .308 to start. Ammo is widely available with a huge variety of bullet weights and power levels, and if you get into reloading someday then your options increase dramatically. Which model is just Chevy/Dodge/Ford. Everyone has their preferences for their own reasons. The best you can do is handle as many as you can to see what fits the best. If you can find a way to shoot as many different makes/models/action types as you can that would be even better.
