I had this come at me in Thacher Park a couple weeks ago. I wasn't all that ticked off that it bit me and ran away, I was pi$$ed that it chased off the 30pt buck I had a solid bead on.

Haven't taken a practice shot in a while, so just shot three at 16 yards, and yes, in the house again. At least I make the effort to take some practice shots, not just winging it. Not a great group, but tight enough to get out there for the last week when I can, and be confident in the bow, where the arrows are hitting, and my form to get a clean shot and not aim at the lungs and hit the a$$.

She bought it and didn't like it much. it was still "gamy/fishy" to her. I thought it was OK.

Picked up a set of knives while there as well yesterday for $16. "Old Timer". Not top of the line, but the fixed blade is pretty dang solid, and the folder ain't half bad either. Will definitely be shopping there more now that we have one 15 minutes away.

The only mistake I feel I made was taking the g/f out on opening day of gun to a heavily hunted state land area. She hated all the shots we heard, and all 4 spots we scouted prior to season and tried to set up in had hunters already in there. It is what is is, but she now has a major reluctance to hunt that place again. But, I made good on that as the private land we have access too in the NZ got the logging done early and I was able to get her out and let her hunt without the chaos of high pressure land. We only got up there twice, and we saw deer both times. Just no bucks. IMO though, a mistake is making a bad shot, or setting up with the wind blowing from your back.

LIVE from the woods 2016 Edition! - 7th Year, lets make this happen...

Alarm went off, checked the temp, and my feet and hands said to my brain, "If you even try it today, we will stop working!", so I went back to bed. Hoping the snow we have coming will get them moving a bit more and get out with the bow a few more times. Congrats to those who got it done on the final day of gun season. -
best/worst game animal you've eaten?
DirtTime replied to rachunter's topic in Game Recipes / Cooking
Best? Hands down moose! Then venison. Worst.......I have eaten some odd things, but, worst would have to be carp and mudpuppies caught out of the Mohawk. Not a big fan of grasshoppers either ( if you want to call them game or not ), even if they are covered in chocolate or sautéed in garlic and hot chilies. -
A little outside the box for me tonight, a squash I usually don't care for.. G/f cooked, seared steelhead, spaghetti squash that she baked and then sautéed in EVO/fresh garlic/cracked black pepper/sea salt/thyme/and rosemary ( It was awesome! Never used to like spaghetti squash until tonight, will be eating a lot more of it now ), and steamed peas. For my snack.....Baked up some chicken hearts and gizzards in hot sauce, then spun them in two more hot sauces with blue cheese on the side. YUMMY!

Spoiled Americans, LOL! There are a lot of foods people in other countries/cultures eat because they have too, that we would deem inedible. I would try it.

Hope the Mrs.'s is driving.

I made chicken breast stuffed with provolone and roasted red peppers, tossed salad on the side.

Never shopped in TS until today. We had to pick up some rope and took a minute to look around. Found a couple Ameristep folding hunting chairs for $7 each on clearance. Not the most comfy, but for the price I can make them work. Just a heads up to all. They will have the tripod seats on clearance in a week or two they said.

Congrats to all who filled tags today! Morning was a bust, just cold. Had things to do so headed home. Actually got everything done early enough to get an evening sit in. Didn't see anything. I was hoping the other hunter I heard walk in below the ridge I was on would push something up to me. Nope. I left about 5 minutes before legal shooting time was up. By the time I got my gear off and started heading out of the parking area it was probably 15-20 minutes after legal time. I hear "bang". Guess I pushed one to a poacher. -

New video ads are annoying. Try to read something and out of the blue people are talking. Any way to turn off the video ads? -

Congrats zeek! -
I would say 18.6%. When you take the percentage of chance, divide it by the 'facts' that the deer are no where to be seen any more for most members here, then add trail cams, subtract the deer who just show up on said cams to laugh at you, add two strawberries, one lime, and a pickle, then take the fruit away and add broccoli, you get an exact 18.6% with a pickle on the side. Go sit the spot again and let us know how it goes. Good luck growie.

I post veggies in just about all my posts of plated food, and usually mention what veggie I made if I cooked on the grill and have no pic of plated food. The only time I don't cook veggies is when I make wings for watching football. Ah, tonight. Sweet and sour pork, white rice, veggie medley steamed in sweet and sour sauce. Lots of curry and cracked black pepper.

Crime does pay for some people
DirtTime replied to Rattler's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
He never went away! He was all over the TV endorsing Clinton and bashing Trump! He's still on the TV, and media trying to endorse the refugee programs he put into place. Still claiming there have been "no terrorist attacks on US soil during his administration". He's also still spewing all about the 'black lives matter' agenda he endorses, that is killing cops, firemen/women people, EMT's, and innocent civilians in public places across the country. -
The state trying to do some crazy crap to force people who own land to allow hunters is ridiculous. Many hunters who own private land put out food plots and other land management to keep deer in the area. They will never stand for any sort of 'laws' allowing anyone with a tag to get access to the land they pay for and pay taxes on. Would anyone who owns land agree to such terms? I doubt it. I wouldn't If I owned my own land. I wouldn't what NYS state says, I own the land, you step a tip of a toenail on it, you are trespassing! It's funny, so many saying they aren't seeing deer anymore, yet we have some nice late season kills in the harvest threads. Some even came from...PUBLIC LAND! Maybe you should put a trail/cell cam on every tree in the woods you hunt. That way you won't miss anything. Better idea, get an IPad with lots of memory, buy a live satellite thermal imaging app,, and you can walk right up on them no matter where you hunt.

Was out for a couple hours this morning. Nothing. Then again, I couldn't see through the fog far enough to try a clean shot. My nose still hasn't thawed out. Won't get back out until Saturday morning. -
A small beef roast, few baked taters, and some steamed corn.
-
All better, I hope. Outside has new flashing and coated up twice with a sealant. Sprayed the inside with diluted bleach, new insulation, and new wanes coating. Three coats of paint.

To reply to both, curry usually makes that color. It is a little disturbing on the color compared to what Zem said though, it does look like............. But, curry is essential to many dishes from Thai, India, and far more countries. Wanted something different, the g/f isn't a fan, but I like a Cornish game hen once in a while. So I roasted up two tonight. Side of tossed salad for the g/f, for me I used up the rest of the French and Italian bread combo I used on Turkey day to make some stuffing, and some wax beans. Never took a pic of the plated food. I was hungry!

Who's giving it a go this week and late season with bow or muzzleloader
DirtTime replied to rob-c's topic in Deer Hunting
I will be going at it as much as possible until the season is over. Have DMP's to fill. Will actually even take a day and hit the APB in the late bow season. Hunted from beginning bow to now, why would I stop?
