    Magnus

There are tons of guys that love Magnus heads, but I am not a fan of 2 blade heads. My biggest buck to date was shot with a Magnus and I have never had a more terrible blood trail. I hit him a little back taking out his liver and the back of his lungs, arrow went in high and exited low and the exit wound sealed back up with his fat( and no it was not guts) I tracked his trail from little drops of blood every now again but mostly from the up turned leaves. after 150 yards and it getting dark fast , I decided to back out and waited till morning. Picked up the trail and he was another 60 yards from where I had stoped just over a ridge. The deer was laying hind end going down hill and on the exit side of the wound. No blood on the ground and his body cavity was filled right up with his blood. So I was not impressed with 2 blade heads. . So that's my experience with Magnus.
  2. From my understanding ,Mathews bows run long on the draw lengths. I do not have first hand experience with this but Seems to be talked about a bunch.i understand liking a bow but one should never use a long loop just to get a bow to fit. Plus you can not go any longer on the draw if you had too . Save your money and buy a bow that you can shoot before you buy that you know will fit you .
  3. In the 20 years that I have been bow hunting I have lost 1 deer, but I take high percentage shots. I can vividly remember the 4 big bucks that I did not shoot because they just would not give me a good shot ( all were easily over 120 inches ) . The way I look at it , for me personally I would rather let them go to shoot later or some one else get s shot versus risking a bad shot and have them run off and die and never to be seen again ..
  4. Wife seen a spike and a 4 point , my son seen same spike and had a deer hang out to the right of his blind but couldn't tell what it was. Myself watched a chipmunk fill his cheeks numerous times with corn climbing up the stalk and onto the cob.we will most likely be staying home these next few weekends unles there is a drastic change in the temperatures .
  5. Couple photos over looking the corn field, tons of deer sign. Fingers crosssed
  6. good luck to all, especially the youngsters..
  7. nice first deer, yes not a text book shot, but any venison tastes good no matter how you kill em.
  8. Those must be some light weight arrows your shooting. I can't even see it .
  9. Nice set up , wife and I use bandolier holsters and yes it is very nice having it right on the chest. Super easy walking and climbing into tree stands.
  10. WNYbuckhunters thread about the shop being closed, brought me back to my own frustrations I had that led me to buy all my own archery equipment. I have been tuning my own bows and friends for probably 20 years now. My friends always give me a little cash for doing the work and it has easily paid for my equipment and then some. I have recently gotten into some light gun smithing and I won't work on anyone else's guns, but I certainly have no problems doing my own. I have installed reduced springs , trigger shims and polished the triggers on mine and the wife's hunting revolvers. Bought a scope ring lapping kit to lap the rings before mounting my own scopes and scope levels. Will be replacing the triggers on our turkey guns before the spring. So what all do you guys do ...
  11. My wife - 38lbs my son-57lbs myself - 65lbs when I was younger I could shoot 77lbs all day everyday.
  12. For my wife and son to shoot their first bucks ..
  13. My wife is right out there with me, I did work her into it slowly, first a bow and 3-d then sitting with me in the woods, to finally shooting a deer. She's been hunting with me for several years now, she loves hunting and shooting just as much as I..
  14. i am .... I am as long as we don't get another warm front....
  15. I always sacrafice 2 broadheads to shoot in my target, the very best broadhead target I have found is the rinehart 18-1. You can shoot the snot out of it for years and it holds up well. A good tip that helps tremendously with broadhead tuning is a arrow roller. I have found even top tier arrow shafts will have a few that are not straight and wobble on the spinner.
  16. Believe it or not, not that many. I had like 1200 photos total and I would say maybe 30-40 of them were blank (I have it set on 3 shot burst) . I am actually impressed with this stealth cam it's a cheap $50 camera..
  17. set up the blind this morning to replace the broken one and pulled the sd card, this is under our apple tree....
  18. For the second photo -Middle first , back second. The back would most likely take out the liver and at least a lung, plus you would probably get a exit hole. Middle is the money shot though, both lungs would be done.
  19. You should build a maze on the floor, that way when your bored you can set your cheese in the corner and watch the mice
  20. I have been a bow hunter for many many years. and gun hunting a bit longer than archery. but it got to the point that even using the slug gun before we could use rifles was just getting to easy for me. i like the challenge and really like the ease of carrying the revolver in our bandolier holsters. now don't think all hand guns are close range only, I can hold a 4 inch group with my 44 out to 100 yards...
  21. yep . google 45 auto hunting rounds. if you can score a box of the buffalo bore rounds you are set, they produce top shelf hunting ammo..
  22. Well with all the fine looking iron, I had to snap a photo of mine and the wife's...
  23. I am a ruger guy all the way. but man I love those dan wesson revolvers,,,,
  24. Wife and I hung up the long guns 3 years ago. I use a super redhawk in 44 and she's shooting a go-100 in 357. So who else ?
