  1. You are a lucky man! Best of luck to all of you this season!
  2. Congratulations to your daughters! That's awesome, they and you, are very proud no doubt!!! Sorry you were not able to get their first licenses. I know how big a deal that is. Hopefully this weekend you will be successful. Course, it may cost you another hunting item for their packs!.................grin.
  3. Welcome! How did you find us from Montana to HuntingNY? Best of luck up at elk camp! Send some pictures!
  4. I have heard both good and bad, about using the ozonics. If something gives you the confidence to hang in there another hour, hey go for it! I have no experience with it myself, but maybe it works wonders? Or perhaps a waste of money, who knows? I do all I can to stay clean, with morning showers in scent free soap and deodorant. Clothes washed in scent free soap and rubber Muck boots. My even spray down with a scent killer. I hunt a lot of ridges and draws, that have swirling winds and thermals. A lot of thought goes into my set ups. Most days the deer 'may' appear from any direction. But given that days conditions, and where that set up is, I can usually predict where they are "likely' to come from. There is no doubt that my scent has spooked countless deer that I never saw. That's hunting folks!!! I may even fire up a cig to check the wind! Still manage to kill a deer most every season. Most all the old guy's that showed me the ropes of deer hunting, smelled like an old goat, and smoked pipes and cigars while hunting. They never wore camo or had any of the stuff available that we have today. Makes me wonder how they ever managed to see a deer, much less kill one! But they killed plenty....
  5. Pictures like this are priceless, for the memories they hold. Just so cool to see how your family did it "back in the day". I like to think, that some day, my great or even great great grandson's or daughters, will look at some of my hunting photo's and smile.
  6. Yes it did! I don't like to bow hunt, in the heat, for a variety of reasons. Plenty of time when the temps cool, and deer movement picks up, later in the month. But even if it's for an hour or two in the morning, early season can be very exciting AND productive!
  7. You describe me to a T Doc ! Spent a lot of time in my younger years, in various contraptions up in trees, both homebuilt and purchased. Many years, with no fall restraint at all. Except for one incident, I was lucky! But as the years went by, I found I was less and less comfortable being off the ground. I also enjoyed the added challenge, of hunting eye to eye with deer on the ground. It actually made me a better hunter I think! I still do hunt a ladderstand or two, but rarely. And with a full body harness clipped in from the ground at all times, I hunted with moog last year and forgot my harness. He put me in a GREAT spot, in a ladderstand. But even after seeing deer, I still did not feel comfortable at all, and climbed down to sit on the ground, at the base of the stand. Still saw deer! Including a very nice 8pt, that was only a step or two from meeting my Muzzy!!! Very soon I will not hunt above the ground at all.
  8. I saw that! And down into the 40s at night! Got most all of the property things done like stands, blinds and plots. Still shooting a single arrow in the morning and evening. Will be getting some more trigger time on the Sako, whenever I can too. Clothes and gear are ready to go. Just need to treat with Sawyers, right before season opens. I have not been this prepared, this early in a few years! I like it!! Knowing I'll be using two Saturday's this month to be helping with NYS Hunters Safety Classes, has made me get things done earlier though.
  9. You got all the right tools to be a great bowhunter! Looking forward to seeing your smiling face with your first bowkill, this fall!!
  10. And our idiot governor is on TV rubbing it in :"No one needs 10 bullets to kill a dee-UH!" HaHaHaHa!!!
  11. Happy Birthday Eddie! All the best coming your way today! Get well soon my friend. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.
  12. Jdubs, part of the longpath trail goes through, right where we were yesterday.
  13. Bullet size doesn't really matter, as any well placed legal, bullet will do the job on deer. What matters more, is if the shooter behind the trigger can do their part. Or even the individual firearm. The hunter who shoots his 223, throughout the year. And knows it's POI well, will usually fair much better than the hunter who grabs a 30-06, that they have not fired in the last few years, or at all. Also, some guns, just shoot terrible! Most all of us has owned a gun, that for whatever reason, just didn't shoot like it should have. Regardless of bullet size. Whatever caliber one chooses, get out and get some trigger time on the range!! That makes much more difference than the size of the projectile.
  14. Happy Birthday Mr. Tacks! Enjoy all the good stuff, sure to come your way!
  15. First pic........deer. Second pic........racoon.
  16. I refuse to answer this question, under the grounds it may put my butt in a sling! No good will come from this, if my wife looks at this tablet......grin
  17. My hunting partner has one, in the "right" hand version. From around the same age. His is a tack driver, with a Nikon scope mounted. Very accurate out to 200+ yards. He's dropped a good amount of deer with this set up. If the one you are looking at has quality glass and is in decent shape I'd say $700 is a fair price.
  18. Thanks! That is the plan. Would be great to have him put a couple of deer under his belt, or in the freezer this year! The way that boy is putting away groceries lately, he can easily eat two deer himself in a year!
  19. Yes sir. So hard to draw a dmp here. While most areas in this unit, it's scary to drive early and late in the day! I've had three VERY close calls this summer alone between home and farm property.
  20. Grandson and I went to get our licenses today. We both got LUCKY, and drew very hard to get, 4H dmp's!!! Wooohoo!
  21. That's right! Forgot about our little visitor!..........Must have been curious about what we were talking about?? Will tell the guys at work tomorrow it was a monster 12 point.......lol
  22. You're making eggs for Natalie Portman???.......you da Man!
  23. Fixed up a blind this morning with Jdubs over to lake property. Home now. Going to take the wife to pick up a couple of things for later. The kids and grandkids are coming over for a cookout. Then back to work in the morning. Been a nice quiet, ten day vacation!
  24. Had one more blind to freshen up at the lake property. So I met up with Jdubs this mourning and we rode up together. What a great guy, really enjoyed spending the morning in the woods with him! I showed him the lay of the land, and a couple lower blinds first. Then we went up the ridge to the upper blind. We fixed it up a little and it's all set to go! Saw plenty of deer sign! I think John liked this spot? Jdubs recently became an Adirondack 46r, so I took him over to Thatcher Park next, to show him some hiking trails. We even found a map of the area, showing the trails. Walked back to the pond, and pointed out some likely deer hunting areas too. Thanks for the help John, look forward to doing a hunt with ya this fall!
