Thanks so much everyone! Fortunately there will be some other VERY experienced instructors to help dig me out of any holes. I took my grandson to this sportsmens club two years ago, and sat through the bow and firearms classes with him. I was so impressed with this group, I became a member. Was asked to do a Deer Search seminar for the club, and did that. Got a lot of positive feed back from it, and the senior instructor asked if I'd be interested in doing Hunter Education? So here I am. The guys were all very supportive at the set up tonight. I'm a bit more at ease, than when I started this thread. So I'll give it my best tomorrow!

I would be honored Brian. And thanks.

Giving my first NYS Hunter Education Class tomorrow. Going over tonight to get set up. I'm a little nervous, hope I'm not too boring! I took mine 45 years ago. My old social studies teacher, Ernie Ecker was a hoot! A great guy and gave a course I still remember. This is a chance for me to give back, to something I've loved all my life.

I hunt almost exclusively from brush blinds. Some examples. So many times, had deer close enough to touch. Nothing beats being eye to eye with em.

Welcome back! Good luck up there this season!

de Grom is the cornerstone of the Mets rebuilding process. They wouldn't deal him. But the Yanks had enough minor league prospects, and $$$ to have possibly made an offer they couldn't refuse. Question is, would it have been worth it for "this" year?? I don't think so. Even if de Grom were on the Yankees rotation now, there is too much wrong elsewhere. And it wouldn't make a difference on how the Yankees season is going to end.

Could be killdeer too. They are similar to what you described. they would love the short grass that you mowed, next to a swampy area. Love the broken wing thing they do, when protecting their nest. Killdeer...................next to a hunting set up? Sounds good to me!

I have the HHA system. It's ok, and I feel very comfortable and safe using it. Clip in to a safety line on the ground, using the prusik knot. I have used this for a few years now. May be time to upgrade. I really like the look of the bibs that moog posted. Will look into those.

Very cool! And very rare in these parts!

Which hunting weapon and season do you like the best ?
grampy replied to Hunter007's topic in General Chit Chat
Though I truly enjoy ALL of the hunting seasons, with different weapons. Like 22lr, shotguns, rifles. Bow hunting is my true love. -
Coyote......final answer.

Only if you are measuring for distance !

In the last five years, my hunting buddy has had two deer partially eaten by coyotes, between the time he hit the deer with an arrow and recovery. About an hour and a half both times. ( wasn't positive of where he hit) The farthest one only went less than two hundred yards. Each hunting season, I find a couple of carcasses of deer eaten by coyotes. But they could easily have been wounded by hunters on bordering properties. Or hit by vehicles and limped off to die. I have never witnessed coyotes killing an adult deer, but have seen and heard them killing fawns in the spring. Also no doubt, that they feed on adult deer, during the deep snows of winter. There is also a place for predators in the wild, I fully understand that! But when their numbers become so numerous, and their prey, deer and small game, becomes almost non existent, like we saw on our own property a few short years ago. It's time to take out some coyotes! We shot on sight for a couple years, had a trapper come in, and we started calling them to hunt after deer season. (not easy) I have heard all the things about how shooting them brings more coyotes. I have found that to be false based on my observations, on my own property. We have also seen a dramatic increase in fawn survival, and with that, deer numbers here have climbed as well. Other small game is more numerous as well. We still do have coyotes. That's fine!!! I would never want them to disappear completely. They are beautiful animals that I have a huge respect for. As long as their numbers are kept in check. I also feel that there should be no closed season. JMO..............................

Today I bow my head, and pay homage to all the innocent victims and their loved ones. To the many hero's who gave all trying to save as many as they could. To the first responders, many who have paid the ultimate the price after the towers fell. As America sheds a tear today, my she be ever watchful, that something like this never happens again.

Over the years I've used it, with so-so results. Don't use urine based scents anymore, haven't in a long time now. Like others have said, I will occasionally pee in a scrape, so-so results there too for me. But Evercalm, as a cover scent seems to work 'when' I use it. Mostly for entering a stand. Have seen many times, deer walk over my trail, and not go to full alert. Even the old doe!!

Well done!

Good to go here! Just need to treat hunting garments with Sawyers, the week before season opens.

I can't vouch for the Benelli, but I will certainly vouch for the Ithaca model 37 you are selling. I've owned them since the 70's. That one you have for sale Larry is a beauty! I also will not give Dicks - F&S, one cent of my money! As they are actively supporting anti gun legislation.

Without a doubt, it would be amazing!

Yes!! We got the Nikon Bolt dialed in perfect! Man, do I love that scope on a crossbow! So much better than the package scope that the Barnett came with. Sighted in at 20, it's dead on at 30, just a touch low at 40, about two inches low at 50. I don't shoot at deer any farther than 30 yards, with ANY stick and string, so it's good to go! 100 grain, two blade Slick Tricks for broadheads in both crossbows. Thanks again buddy, for the great deal you gave me on that scope! Will be picking up another one in the off season to mount on the 370 Sniper. Should have done it over the summer, but got too busy, and didn't.

I do admit to sitting in the woods many times, and not seeing a deer, questioning myself if I should have just stayed home and got something done!
