  1. Since they moved opening day to the 1st, I'm not real serious until mid to late October. First up for me will be accompanying my grandson for youth season. Early bow hunting for me, will be at the lake property. Always plenty of early action there. And won't sit my good stands until I'm pretty sure the deer I'm looking for are on their feet, later in the month.
  2. Dandy buck! Hope you put your tag on him!
  3. Welcome! Best of luck this season! Pull up a seat and join in with us.
  4. He uses the PA chest girth measurement. Can't argue with that!
  5. After going back and looking at "the fat boy in the back", he does have the deeper chest of a three year old, compared to the two year old in the forefront of the pic. Regardless, it seems like you have a nice selection of bucks to hunt this year Tacks!!! Now this critter! He may lean out a bit during the rut! But definitely a mature specimen.................grin
  6. Awesome pic's Rob!!! I too was caught up looking at the sunset splendor last evening.
  7. If your approach is from below #4, with a NW wind, draw a line between #2 and #4. Right in the middle of that line is where I would set up. That will be a staging area for deer scent checking the field. Here you will be far enough off the field to take advantage of movement, without being scented by the deer you are hunting. Also when those crops are cut, deer will tend to filter through there to eyeball as well as scent check to "see who's out there". Check the area I'm suggesting for rubs and scrapes. Think you may find some there. Good luck! Looks like a good property.
  8. You are soooo lucky. Someone was looking over you. Ya still got work to do here. Will keep you in my thoughts and prayers Eddie. Rest up. Get stronger. Do all you can do. And thanks for the reminder, that none of us has any guarantees.
  9. Every time I look at this bow, I say what a beautiful work of art! And in your hands, it shoots as good as it looks! Deer should fear this combination! Best of luck this season Brian!
  10. My BIL has had Rangers for years and years. Loves them! Congrats on your "new" Ranger! Drive on!
  11. Tom, wishing you and your fourlegged tracking buddies, a very safe, and successful season!
  12. So much wrong with this. Just because someone feels doing something is ethical "to them", that doesn't always make it legal. Doing something illegal is never totally ethical. But where do you draw the line? Is there a line? I don't claim to be "perfect" either. If people are honest, most would admit that. I may have continued driving and just shook my head. I may have gone back to shoot, shovel, and shut up? Guess I'll sit back and see how this develops..........
  13. Happy Birthday! Hope your day is filled up with all the good stuff!
  14. Yankees pitching blew another game today. Any other Yankees fans, tired of hearing Boone and the players saying, "we need to play better baseball"? I am! Just play better baseball! Looks like a quick exit in the post season for this group. I feel that the lack of spark on this team, rides on the managers shoulders.
  15. I don't think Mepps would want those tails now. Good that they got the little tree rats sorted out though!
  16. So sad.....my condolences to your family. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
  17. I've changed string and cable five or six times. This was top of the line bow when new. And there has been more than once, that I almost bought a new bow. But nothing else, feels like an extension of my arm like this does after so many years. Basically just point and shoot for me now. Still put a pass through on the buck I killed last year. With my bad shoulders, I think every year will be my last with the bow. Me and this old Mathews will retire together.
  18. First shot. Broadhead of course. Shot three more after this one, but this was the best shot. 30 yards.
  19. 18 year old Mathews MQ-32 WB rest. HHA sight. Still shoots great, and has killed a pile of deer. It will be the last bow I carry in the woods.
  20. Welcome! Beautiful taxidermy work! Hope to hear more from you! Did you kill any of the critters in the pic's? Some real nice bucks!
  21. Welcome! Great to have you join us! This is a great place to share, with a great group of hunters. Pull up a seat, and join right in! Best of luck to you this hunting season!
  22. Guitars and playing music. Been doing it on and off since my teens. The drones look really cool John! That would be much more expensive for me, with all the crashing I'd be doing! You ever use your drones for getting pic's and video from above, of your hunting area? I could see that being useful as far as marking stand sites, and recent deer sightings, along with freshly dicovered deer sign.
  23. In about 40 years of bow hunting, one deer at just over 35 yards. The vast majority have been 20 yards or less. To me, the challenge and exitement of bow hunting is how close can I get to the deer.
  24. Happy Birthday! Sorry we didn't catch it. But sounds like you had a good day just the same! Here's to you!
  25. Everything went really well today! Had a great class, no one fell asleep! They asked some good questions, and seemed to have had everything sink in very well, from their test scores! Had time during break and lunch, to answer many other questions about hunting. My heart melted when after receiving their certification cards, many came up to me to say thanks. I shook their hands, told them they really did awesome. I wished them luck and success, and most of all to enjoy every minute they get the chance to be out there! Huge smiles all around from young and old. Hope I did my fellow hunters proud. From what I saw today, the future of hunting looks a little brighter. Back at it again in two weeks!
