  1. Welcome!! Many here who would be happy to help ya! Just pull up a seat and join right in! Best of luck this year! This is the year you get it done!
  2. What???............... When was I written out of you will??................... Way to go Rob! Your family and friends thank you too!!!
  3. Sounds like she shoots as good as she looks Bill! Now ya gotta get some deer blood on her! We got to meet up for that coffee soon! Sometime before the rut! We can meet at our usual spot, before light. Have our coffee, then go for a bow hunt!
  4. Public land bucks are among the toughest to hunt. And those are some very nice bucks! Just to have kept your cam's from being stolen is a big accomplishment! Wishing you the very best of luck this season. Looking forward to seeing you with one of those hard to kill bucks!
  5. Yesterday, I was up in the area where this pic was taken. Though we don't have any pictures of them yet, from this cam, there is PLENTY of bear sign up there. Tracks and scat. I'm guessing bear. Or Dogman............................
  6. At less than 30 yards, I've never seen my arrows affected too much at all by the wind. Unless it's gusting gail force. If it's blowing hard enough to affect arrow flight, probably don't want to be in a tree anyways.
  7. And to think, we never even needed to lock our doors years ago. Now I have deadbolts, security cams, and two different firearms for home protection. Built in car alarms, and trackable gps for vehicles. At times I think this word is quickly going to hell in a handbasket. With all the druggies, crazies, perverts, and scumbags out there. Then..... out of the blue..... someone goes out of their way to do something nice! Totally unexpected! And that gives me hope that my grandkids, will someday enjoy some of the "finer things in life" that I've had. I know it's so difficult now days. But I have to keep a ray of hope, for better days to come. If only to just pass along to someone else. To perhaps give them a ray of hope, all their own. To maybe pass along........................
  8. Man, that sucks big time! I'm a firm believer of what comes around, goes around. When it comes around for this scumbag, I hope it's double!
  9. My heartfelt condolences to you and your family. Cherish all the beautiful memories. Sounds like she left a lot of them. Prayers sent.
  10. Lot of character there. I'd shoot him too. Pretty cool.
  11. Having had the pleasure of hunting, and sitting down to eat with these guys. I can honestly say........ Great group of hunters! And I was never hungry during my time there! Think I gained a few pounds in a couple days!.....lol Good time. Best of luck to you guys this season!
  12. Low 40s here this morning. Spent all day at the property. So nice!
  13. You dodged another bullet, thankfully Eddie. Still got ya in my thoughts and prayers. Hopefully you will get out to shoot a bullet, this year! Hang in there and take care sir.
  14. As long as the rest is square, first thing I'd do is lower the sight pin a bit. That will bring your POI up to where you want it. Nice call NFA-ADK.
  15. If I get out that way, I'll take a mile of it off your hands!
  16. Guess I'll ask, what would the Mrs prefer do do? As for myself? I'd be happy and content to do either one. Or a combination of both, like others have said. Both places are beautiful. Go with what she chooses. There really is no bad choice here.
  17. You'll see a marginal difference in deer activity this fall. But next year, with all the new growth, and a food plot, will be a Deer Bonanza!!! Logging is so beneficial to so many critters! Sounds like you have a top notch logger too. Perfect!
  18. Knowing the Iand helps. As each set up has it's own thermals, and drafts. Even with a steady wind! After awhile you learn what works where, and when, and what won't. You learn to be adaptable to changing wind conditions. If the wind changes, especially in a good spot, ya gotta move! Multiple setups for a good spot helps. Some setups can only be used under the right conditions. And even then, things can and do change quickly. It's all part of hunting. And anyone who hunts the hills and ridges, knows the extra challenges it takes to be successful.
  19. I too have noticed a few more bucks this year in our part of the Helderbergs, Berne and Knox. Nothing BIG yet on cam's, to this point though. Though the average antler size here for a three year old, is much smaller than say WNY, for the same age buck. Poorer soil conditions with the hard rocky ground, is most likely the reason. But given some age, we do get some pretty nice ones here and there! So true on how tough the hunting can be up here. But that can be said of most places. Not too many "easy" places to hunt deer. Especially mature bucks. Been roaming these hills since I was a boy, and I wouldn't trade it for anywhere. Temps in the hills above Albany usually average 7 to 10 degrees cooler than in the Hudson Valley. Predominate hunting wind up here is mostly NW. But with all the ridges, gullies, benches, and flats, even with a strong NW wind, the wind where you are set up could be SE!! Plenty of changing thermals too. Just part of what makes hunting here a challenge and fun!
  20. If you were a bit closer, I'd take you up on that offer! And I'm not usually a grumpy grampy..........grin.
  21. Beauty of a buck! He will make a fine mount! Best of luck!
  22. Nice pic's from 4-H ! Things seem to be shaping up nicely in this neck o' the woods!
  23. I think I was about eight years old when I discovered the peace and serenity of the woods. Most all of my biggest, and most difficult life decisions were made there. The forests and fields have always been my happy place. I'm not sure what kind of man I would be now, had I not discovered the ground that keeps me grounded. Some day my spirit will run freely there. philoshop, I know you will find what you seek, in the solitude of the forest. Enjoy sir.
