Tha biggest changes in 42 hunting seasons have been in myself. In the beginning any legal deer was fair game and a shooter. Meat for our family was the first priority. As I had six brothers, a sister and a single mom, the meat was put to good use! Now, although I still love eating venison, I'm much more selective in the deer I kill. Will kill a doe for the freezer, and let the younger bucks walk. And I'm willing to eat my buck tag if the right buck does not present itself for a quick, clean kill. I'm much more selective now than I was back then. Another big change is it is much more difficult dragging out deer, going up and down these ridges and climbing trees than it was in the beginning. When I started hunting I couldn't sit for very long. I had to go after the deer because I didn't have the patience to wait them out. Although I got good enough, still hunting to kill two of my best bucks in their beds. I now prefer to sneak into the thick spots and wait them out. I have come a long way in my hunting journey. Even though I am now closer to the end of it. I still am awed by nature's splendor. And still learning how to be a better hunter.

I have the Primos Trigger Stick Bipod. It works quickly, quietly, and on uneven ground, like a side hill. Made a sling for it as well. I haven't tried the bog pod but they are very popular as well and look nice. Or as said above there are some u-tube vid's on how to make your own. A tripod will give more stability, but the bipod is a bit lighter to carry and offers a much more stable shot than offhand. And deploys very quickly.

I really like the old guns too. Seen some nice ones posted here lately.

The one buck rule makes sense. That's why we don't have it in NY.

Not too much beats collecting money and watching nice bucks, while someone feeds you! I need to figure out how to accomplish that! Good deal!

We used to go just about every weekend. Not too many tracks in the northeast we haven't been to at least once.

PITA and people like Mr.Irving and the anti hunting establishment, will use religion or any other crutch they can to farther their misguided views. That are not based on scientifically or biologically proven facts that regulated hunting actually improves the sustainability of species of animals that are hunted. And even improves the habitat of non hunted species as well. For the benefit of all wild things. Make no mistake, that people like Mr. Irving are very organized and a threat to hunting, and will use any and all propaganda to farther their agenda. That is why now, more than ever, hunter's must not quibble amongst ourselves. We need to stand strong together for the sake of huntings future generations.

The workmanship is absolutely astonishing. Very beautiful pieces of art.

On my TC Shadow Hawk ML, I have a Leopold 1x4 that works well for me. Also have the same scope on my Deerslayer 2. On 1 power it's great for quick pick up in the thick stuff and on 4 power it's plenty for out to my max range of 100 yards or so for these guns. Nikon also makes a good scope for under $200. Don't care for the BDC, but really like the nikoplex crosshair. Good luck with your new scope, whatever you choose. And happy hunting!

Yup, I saw my first hard antler buck this morning, just down the road. Trail cam pic's will be showing hard antlers anytime now.

Couldn't agree more with this post wooly! I'll go with my own experience and observations in the areas I hunt. And leave all the speculations to the "experts".

Good advice Belo. I like to hunt VERY thick area's. But you don't want to go thrashing your way in there,only to bust out the deer you are hunting. Much better to find where they are coming in and out, and set up with the wind in your face and wait them out. And about a twenty yard shot is about all you will have in such area's.
