Most experienced hunters, who have good woods skills, will be able to shoot a buck older than one and a half years old, most anywhere in NY state. Take the time to learn about your quarry and get back into the woods a bit farther than the next guy. If shooting an older buck is what you want, then learn to be a better hunter! The older bucks are out there if you want them! I have no problem with any hunter that just wants to step into the woods and shoot the first legal deer that comes along. But some of the hunters that say they would like to shoot a buck older than one and a half, could do so more often if they just became more skilled at hunting older bucks. DEC can change all the regulations they want, and it still will not make you a better hunter!

We have bears, coyote's, bobcats, fox and a number of other hunting birds and critters in the woods behind my house. Should I move I move to the burbs because they are all out there killing and eating? Think I'll just stay right here and take my chances.

Have never had the opportunity to eat a horse. But I have been hungry enough to eat one! So yeah, why not. I have most likely eaten it before, and not known it.

It's just the way of the woods. Although it did happen in a backyard this particular video. It happens in the woods every day. Just a bear doing what bears do. Nothing to see here folks, just move along.

God speed for Sir Oz's journey. When your time comes, he will be there waiting for another hunt . It's always so hard to let them go.

He's a big boy for sure! I'm no bear expert, but guessing around 300 pounds.

My main focus as a hunter, when I decide to pull the trigger on a deer, is to have it Dead Right There, or down as quickly as possible. And the larger, more powerful rounds and slugs, just seem to be more efficient for me. I'm all for making deer hunting a challenge if that is what you want to do. That's why we have black powder guns, deer sized hand guns, recurve, compound and crossbows. My point is to understand the capabilities, and limitations of any weapon used, and to kill as quickly and efficiently as possible. We owe that to the game we hunt!

At some point, ammo will be the main currency. So sad to see it coming to that. -
Congrats! You should be very proud.
