  1. Especially this time of year, growalot always had some tidbits of wisdom to share. I truely miss her being here.
  2. This! After all the leaves have fallen by mid to late October, take a warm sunny day, and do it mid day. The deer will be bedded. Rake or use a blower. It won't matter. The deer will likely walk the paths you clear later that night. As they are attracted to the freshly exposed ground.
  3. Been out checking spots on the farm. No apples this year due to a late hard frost and snow. Just bought a new ladderstand to go in here. Will call it the "Jungle Stand" It's the tail end of a large swamp, heading to and from bedding. I prefer to hunt from the ground, but too thick in here. Post season scouting showed this area was a major buck travel corridor. It won't get hunted until the timing is perfect. One of the best stands on the farm. Almost guaranteed to see deer from this spot. In between a hemlock swamp, and a pine ridge. With plots in the middle. Hub blind going here again. Couple of my favorite ground blinds. This is how I most prefer to hunt! Eye to eye with the deer. And at times so close you could reach out and touch them. During the craziness of life, the farm is my sanctuary. It keeps me grounded. Been roaming it's woods and fields since I was a young boy. And one day my ashes will be spread to the wind there.
  4. Happy Birthday! Sure would be nice to see you more around these parts.
  5. After shooting bow for decades, I get days like this too. Where I say to myself WTF!!! But learned to not adjust a perfectly fine bow, unless the problem persists for more than one shooting session. Usually it was some "odd" thing I was doing to compensate for how I was feeling that day!
  6. I had a 5th grade teacher recommend My Side Of The Mountain, to help with my reading comprehension. It was the first book I read from cover to cover. It opened up a whole new world for me!! I've gone on to read hundreds, and hundreds of books since. And enjoy reading very much still. Thank you Mrs. Roberts!!! I still have a copy of MSOTM. When my grandsons were little, I used to read it to them. Using "voices" to liven it up even more. They still remember that.
  7. I have a Barnett Raptor, and a CP 370 Sniper. I much prefer the CP. It is a bit front heavy, but I've put a lot of accurate range shots through it with no problems at all. Killed deer with it too. Best low budget CB on the market in my opinion. I may hunt with a crossbow only a couple times a year, because I still love my bow. But nice to have a choice during the two week season. I did upgrade the scope too, as the budget package scopes are all pretty much junk.
  8. Long story short. We first tried being nice. Didn't work. We were even flipped off. And had people hunting our stands! So......... We became known locally, as the crazy pric..s, that would chase you down, or follow you home, and have the police called. But we own the property. Didn't take long for word to get out. Haven't had a big problem in years now. We still patrol year round, and especially during the hunting season, for even the walking trespassers. If not, the place would literally be over run. Been there, done that. Not anymore.
  9. If you get cold feet try these. They are the best hunting socks I've ever used.
  10. Happy Birthday Young Man!!! All the best Tacks, on your milestone day my friend!
  11. Many Native Americans believe the owl to be a spirit bird. Spirits of those passed on, ride the owls wings to this world. A wooly carving is an honor to have. Meeting him is a higher honor. I have both. I have no doubt, having Lee for a big brother was quite an honor too. RIP Lee
  12. I admire a man who puts his family above all else. There is nothing more important than them. Time speeds up as you grow older. Harbor no regrets.
  13. Do younger women like old Norton's???? Enjoy all the great things to come in your new life.
  14. So,,,,through out the season, you may only pick a certain hunter only one time for a week....correct? Say If I were to pick Lawdwaz for week #7, assuming he has not yet shot a buck. That would be the only time I could use him as a hunter? I know, I'm a little thick headed......lol
  15. Some very nice quality stuff! But I'm at least an XL. Most of my outdoor clothing is XXL. I dislike tight clothes while outside.
  16. Black Widow, has been a rock solid, and dead quiet quiver for me.
  17. Looks like we will all have some fun and a few laughs! I'm in! And looking to redeem myself from the all or nothing, hunting of a specific buck last year. I won't be quite so picky this season. And yes, that buck is still roaming the property.
  18. If EAB was ever implemented here, no big deal to me. I don't shoot enough doe anymore due to one deer is enough meat for me now. And I'd rather kill a buck at this point of my hunting career. But there is always someone who could use extra venison. So I have no problem helping out if I can.
  19. Got a prime spot in 4-J's Pine Bush. But won't go there until late October. Lot's of deer in there. Ticks too, but Sawyers keeps them at bay. Half hour drive from there to the farm to butcher. And a long drag from my spots to my truck no matter what. If I kill a deer in The Pine Bush, it will be a decent buck! Getting a doe is much easier up on the hill. If I were younger, and hungry'er I'd go for an early doe. But I'm not anymore.
  20. And Judge one!!! I know you hide your true feelings for the big lug!
  21. He had MVP written all over him when he was in Boston. Sox should have given him a blank check. Players like him don't come down the pike but a couple times in a generation.
  22. Cole reinventing himself with 15 K's in seven innings last night! Not sure Yankees got what it takes to go all the way this year. But Cole and Judge have been consistent throughout most of the season. If Yankees get hot again at the right time, it could be interesting in October. But we'll see? Mookie Betts is, and always has been a great player! And so fun and refreshing to watch play the game. Biggest blunder the Red Sox have made since Ruth, was letting him go. Should have rebuilt around him.

    Early season

Thanks. I'm sure this will be a huge benefit to some, in the WMU's where it covers. I do have a spot in 4J. But for me, the really warm weather, at that time is a deterrent. Could be 80+ degrees during that time?

Is the early season for antlerless only?
