The reason I went with this cam and not a cell cam, is the invisible infrared night illumination. This is going in a spot where I'm hoping to get a couple of mature bucks. I don't want to tip my hand any more than need be. As these bucks took me to school last year. I'm trying to redeem myself this year with what they taught me.

My wife and I were in the Auburn Bass Pro yesterday. They had a bunch of these in stock. I picked one up, as it's the same one I got last year, and it's a great stand! $159 on sale, it costs less than last years too! Got a spot I found post season, near the big swamp, I am going to set it up there. Way to thick to hunt from the ground there, the way I prefer to. Need to be above to see anything. If this spot plays out like I think it will. My rut buck will be killed there.

I have a couple of Tactacam Reveal cell cams that I like very much. But I wanted a good non cell camera for a new spot. This is what I picked up. Awhile back, I picked up a couple of these from wooly, and they are still working fine. Great pictures and video. A great trail camera that doesn't break the bank.

It's like a breath of fresh air! Now THIS is the REAL HuntingNY!!!! I'd like to formally endorse Robhuntandfish to become a mod here. And Bionic as well. All we need here, is just a mild dose of moderation to keep the train on track.

Just wondering if you have an arrow fletch, hitting the right side of your rest?

You guys all lose....... She said, she's really into old, scar faced, fat, balding, lame, stinky, small buck killing guys. None of you qualify! But I hit all the above! She wants to meet up later at Micky D's to nibble on fries, while I tell her lies.

Way to complete the circle Larry. Hope whoever the kid is, they get some of your mojo, along with the nice camo!

If the law was you can only own one gun what would it be ?

Everybody's right! And Everybody else is Wrong!!! Sad times now days. We're not Americans anymore. We are a bunch of bickering, politically tied nobody's, who refuse to see, we are ALL worse off divided. United We Stand Divided We Fall. Where have I heard that before??? No political party is right ALL the time! All have their idiots! All have their ones who want to work For The People! Though those are becoming more and more rare. Too many are just blinded by what they refuse to see. I come here to sometimes get away from all the noise of everyday life. Sort of like going to the woods, but not quite. Lately though, the volume here is turned up so loud, by a few who would rather argue politics, and call each other silly names. That I wonder if just going to the woods more, would be better time spent. I know it will be for me. If anything, just follow the damned forum rules, and bicker till the cows come home in the Political Section!!! But few listen anymore. And fewer yet follow any set rules. It's all about "MY" point of view, and to hell with everyone else's. So there....I just gave mine. -

If I could only have one gun....hmmm. I'd have to go WAY back to when I really did have just one gun. That gun did everything for me. Birds, small game, turkeys, deer, targets, home defence, though there was no need for that back then. Ithaca Modle 37 in 16g. I still have that gun. And she still gets out for squirrels at least once a year. Action is still flawless. And it would probably be the very last gun I'd part with. Now....lets get this thread back on target fella's. Whadayasay??? -
Awesome Rob! I have had a couple firearms shipped with no problem at all. Start a thread detailing how set up, sighting in, and cleaning go for the first time. from what I see that is a very nice package! It should serve you very well. Hope to see it laying across a deer this year!

So awesome that your Granddaughter is interested in archery! Keep feeding that interest. I started taking my grandson's out with me when they were six. Some things I learned was, they will not be still, or quiet for very long at that age, impossible after an hour! So plan for short sits. Also bring along plenty of snacks and drinks!! Looking back. it was some of the best times I ever had in the woods. Enjoy your time out there too.

Joe's gotta go!!! Totally clueless. -
Beef, Pork, Chicken, was for as long as I can remember, butchered on the farm. Long before I ever killed a deer, I was familiar with the butchering process. Doing a deer or anything, is a get together, with family and close friends. The process goes pretty easy, as we are set up for it well. Once, about fifteen years ago, my buddy and I each brought a deer to a local place to have it done. I don't recall why we did it? But never again, as we both had deer hair on the meat, and even some in the burger. Yuck! No one can do it better than yourself. It's not hard to do. And the satisfaction of doing it yourself, is far better than leaving it to someone else. I have shown many new hunters how to do their own deer over the years. From the field dressing, to the cutting and wrapping of their first deer. Explaining that this is all apart of it! You shot it. You need to now take care of it, and get it in the freezer. I do understand that it isn't feasible, for everyone to do their own. Though most can without too much trouble.

Isn't it now legal, to grow up to a certain amount of marijuana? Pretty cool dude, to leave some cash for messing with the camera.

Happy Birthday Guy's!!!

Just google Savage Axis trigger spring. The Amazon link should come up. The spring will even come with detailed instructions. But it's super easy to do! "AND SAFE" ! I made a thread on this a few years ago.

The Stones great drummer since 1963. RIP Charlie.
-
It's as easy as replacing the trigger spring! Can get it from Amazon for less than $20 and install it in five minutes. Mine went from a 7lb trigger pull to a 3lb pull. Made a huge difference with accuracy.

Very nice public land bucks! That sure raises the anticipation factor a notch or two! I hope you get one of them!

Food source in public land. What am I looking for.
grampy replied to oapiastos88's topic in Deer Hunting
Oaks are definitely a major food source for deer. In particular, ones growing on a south facing, side hill bench. Another lesser known one is sumac. I have seen deer eating it many times near the end of October! I once took a nice bow buck, while set up on the thicker side of a sumac stand, that led to bedding. I was originally set up 100 yards farther away, and kept seeing deer in that sumac. I moved in closer and sealed the deal. Good luck with your scouting. And for the season as well! -
Had a club meeting last night, so I decided to go early and hit the archery range. First time shooting this year for me. I shot really well at 20 and 30 yards!! And was able to shoot 50 arrows or so! Had some guys watching, that didn't believe it was my first time shooting since last winter. My grandson has me doing some light weight training, that seems to be helping my shoulders. Real happy about my first shots of the year. A solid foundation to build on for the season. No pic's as I was being watched. You'll have to trust me...

Obsession Phoenix 370 Sniper crossbow Sako 85 classic 270 Savage 7mm-08 TC ThunderHawk Shadow This gets me from one end of the season to the other.
-
Some places were logged off of oaks before the land got sold to, or left to the state. But sounds like ya still have plenty of other forage for the deer! Try to determine the "preferred" food source for when you are actually hunting! Then determine where the deer are bedding and how they are getting to that prefered food source. By the way........sumac is a good wild, fall, food source to add to your list! Best of luck to you this season!

Bought mine and my grandson's tags yesterday. We both got denied for 4-H DMP's. So......I could offer a buck hunt on good private land, at my lake property in the Heldebergs of Albany County, for a 4H DMP??
