The ever requested electronic aid deer hunting thread
grampy replied to Nomad's topic in Deer Hunting
I remember when it was in the hunters handbook you got when purchasing your license. That no electronic communications on deer movement was allowed. That went away around the year 2000? Now days, that would be totally impossible to enforce anyways. To be honest, I have text my buddy to give him a heads up on deer I saw moving his way. And him me. Though I don't think a deer was ever killed because of just that. It likely would have been killed anyways. Just like we did for decades before cell phones came along. I also have a couple cell cams that I picked up this year. None of the cell cams are near a hunting set up. Just travel corridors. I like them because I don't have to go in the area to pull the cards. I didn't get them to hunt for me. If the situation ever came up, where I was hunting on one spot. And got a picture of a huge buck in another area from my phone. Would I move? Again, to be completely honest.........maybe I would, maybe I wouldn't. I never have had that happen. And a part of me hopes it doesn't. And I don't care at all what other hunters do, as long as it's legal. As far as I know, there is no law saying it is illegal. More an ethical question in my opinion. Some will be for it. Some against. To each their own. -

Congratulations Chris, awesome buck!!! Way to go!!!! -
With a full moon, I have observed more mid day deer activity. With a 'new' or dark moon, it is more early, and late in the day deer activity. This is just a general overall observation through 47 deer seasons.

I commend you in knowing your limitations, and not wanting to wound a deer. That is how a hunter and sportsman should be when considering their options. Always take the game we hunt under consideration first. Not our ego's. I too have bad shoulders, and just take every season like it will be my last. I shoot just one arrow, and rest for a few minutes before shooting another one. I concentrate on making that first shot a good one. Just as if I were hunting. But cannot hold full draw very long at all. But I'm doing well in making that first shot. And when I can't or become unable to draw my bow, it will be time to stop bow hunting. That said, I have no problem using a crossbow to stay in the woods! That is all I need, to just be in the woods!!! Killing a deer is just a bonus at this point after over 40 years with a bow. No a crossbow is not a vertical bow. But it is legal, and fun to shoot. And for me, choosing to hunt with a crossbow, or not hunting at all, is a no brainer. Wish you better health, and best of luck when you do get to hunt.

Just got way too many things going on right now. My starting date looks like the 10th. That's ok. Gives me a bit more time to get ready.

Bob, if I send you money, will you give me a ticket? -
Happy that there was no damage or injuries! Crazy....... the leaves seem to be falling like two weeks earlier this year?

I thought the Presidential Debate, denigrated into an elementary school, 6th grade playground argument, and name calling. It did nothing to forward either one's position. Just gave supporters from both sides, a bad taste in their mouths. And a WTF shake of the head. Some damned crazy times we are in......... Though I will vote for Trump's policies, I personally think the man himself is an ass. As is Biden. Right now, more than ever, this country needs to come together as AMERICAN'S!!!! Not a party affiliation.

A beautiful mature buck Brian!!! He will look so nice in the new entertainment room! Good luck buddy!

I despise scumbag thieves!!! How about a tripwire rigged claymore mine, or a punji pit???.........JK As much as we would like those options, we would be held liable for any injuries to the scumbags. Even if they are stealing from us! As mentioned above, a dummy, or bait camera set, with a hidden camera on it to catch the bastids, would give you some legal recourse if you know who they are. Is this public or private land?

I do have mine set on burst mode. I would think if set up for single pic, that would be the one to come through? Can also change the settings on the cam through the app, and not have to go to the cam. As of yet, I have not gotten an update from Tactacam. But still getting plenty of pic's. Good luck with your new cams! I think you will like them as much as I do!

I was wondering what became of our member Robin??? Those video's he took camping and paddling up in that area were, and still are among my favorites. Otto, wishing you all the best on your bucket list trip! I envy you. Looking forward to hearing all about it, and the pictures of course.

ATV 400 OR 500 Buying New

Yamaha first choice. Honda second choice. I have both. -
Some really great advice given already!!! I might add..... to point out ANY wildlife seen. Birds, squirrels, anything living, and even some trees. Explain why they are there, and what they are doing, in a fun easy way! Kids are so curious! After seeing something, have them be "on the look out" for more of the same! It keeps them involved, even if no deer are present. Enjoy every second of being out with the young ones. As before you know it, they are no longer young ones. Good to hear from ya Joe! Nice to see you completing the circle.
