  1. Had one done before my open heart surgery 2 months ago ( there went the bow hunting for this year ) they found a groth in one of my kidneys, Went to the Dr. yesterday, they want to do another one but cannot use the liquid, so they are going to take an MRI to check it out futher.
  2. 30 30 marlin 336. Sent from my VS880 using Tapatalk
  3. They have been out grazing all around the house for the past hour even the larger doe , but no bucks yet.
  4. I was out yesterday with my 100 foot tape, putting up distance markers from my stand. At 20 ,50 and 100 yards, the longest shot I could get is 125 yards, safely.
  5. It,s on , this coming week is a good week to be out there.
  6. In the open farmland fields could be longer in some places.
  7. Yes, they have there winter coats on. The more hunters in the area they might get them to move, if you hunt by yourself in a large area don't count on it , they are only going to move by themselves when the feel like eating or pushed.
  8. Grow. you started off on the wrong foot with your first responce, The people giving this talk have worked in the woods for large paper companies, wood supply companies, orchard owners and landscape company owners.they know very well which trees should be cut and which should not for regeneration and the animals that live in the woods. Many of them are hunters also. Being that you are on the other side of the state you do not hear what they have to say every week on our local radio station,On how to clear your property and still keep the animals around. These are not your local fly by night so called loggers that come in and scalp your land of every tree that will put a buck in there pocket. These people are very well trained and have worked in there trades a long time.
  9. In our county the sheriff will give you a tag to keep a road killed deer also.
  10. Yes they do I have seen them do it while in another persons stand that they were letting me use.It had Deer Kane there before hunting season. One time while eating my PJ sandwitch and drinking some hot apple cider from a thermos , I had a 6 pointer run right to me, the wind was blowing to the direction it came from.

    Weather

    It's going to be , 2 - 5 mph wind , sunny around 50* here today and tomorrow .
  12. Being that the Ruger 77 Hawkeye ( standard with a wood stock ) are all priced the same and for the game animal and distance you want to shoot I would go for the 300 win. mag. You are picking a non semi auto rifle, so most of the time it will be a 1 a shot deal ( if you did you practice ) and are placing the shots well at that distance. So recoil will not matter. I have or had many brands and styles and calibers of rifles threw the years. There are not any factory stocks that can come close to a wood stock for stifness and taking away some of the felt recoil with out altering them. Unless you want to spend the extra money for a Mc Millan or Manners stock.
  13. A few years ago found only 1 bucket near a stone wall , cracked corn on the ground near it and a good amount of blood on the ground a few feet from them, Hmm.
  14. Hunted a swamp ONCE during the warmer weather , as you said there is water under the clumps of grass, got stuck and had a heck of a time getting out. A nice 3 + year old 10 pointer got me excited. I only hunt them when the ground is well frozen now. Or try to sit them out coming or going into the swamps.
  15. A story about Shoot Um Up Joe . May he RIP. Jo was a still hunter if that is what you want to call it. But he would not walk from tree to tree. He would walk with the wind in his face , wearing his orange colored fur hat and red and black coat. He would only walk fire lines or logging trails with his BAR in 30 -06 with a sling on his sholder . I never seen anyone that could get that rifle off of his sholder and wrap the sling around his wrist and fire as fast as Joe could. He learned the from his father in Europe who was a guide for the rich that wanted to hunt hogs.Joe got his share of deer and bear also by his type of still hunting.
  16. This is how to do it, found it out one year when putting up new posted signs. There was orange string on the ground on all of the property lines. ( how come ) there was a syrvey company going around for the county checking out something for the county. They would have a person put up a marker pole at a stake then a person with a bow at another stake , that person would shoot an arrow with a marker string attached twards the marker. Now they had a straight line from one stake to the other with the string pulled tight. Do not go by GPS readings , they have a % difference some are 10% , X that by 100' or 1000' and see how much you could be off.
  17. Been missing out on Bow hunting the last 3 years, the first 2 were due ti wrist and scolder injuries, I could not draw any of my bow's. Too much pain. Bought a Xbow thought it would be easier , but it was not.Wound up buying a hand cranking device that helped a lot Get well..
  18. There calling for a snow shower before 8:00 am Sat. here. High of 43 and a low of 26 that night.
  19. Try using a bag near where the bbl. goes into the receiver on the plastic/ free floating stocks. They seem to group better that way.
  20. hand diamond hone then a super fine arkansas stone. I have a kennedy rollaway draw full of various grit stones. A little water on the diamond hone works the best for me.
  21. A GPS ,a compass and a flashlight can be your best friend if you intend staying on your stand after sunset.
  22. Even though they do not have the early doe season in our area, there have been very few hunters out as in the past during archery seasons. The die hard hunters that have been going past the house at 5:00 am or about then have not been buy yet. Most years they head back to there camp once during the day and then head back out until sunset. Non so far this year.
