  1. I've used this trick a few times. Call from your usually spot as soon as he gobbles, or when he should start taking. Quickly and quietly move to the area he and his gals head to after hearing you call. Don't make a sound in second spot. You might get lucky and have him walk by you. This works well now that leaf out is complete, but the earlier you can get moved the better. You want them on the roost when you move. Doesn't work all the time and obviously terrain will determine if it's possible.
  2. 1. Shoot one round of Winchester longbeard #5 at 20yrds. Sitting with back against a tree 2. Shoot 1 round of longbeard #5 at 40 yrds. Sitting with back against a tree. 3. Go hunt.
  3. I don't save my beards or Spurs, so there's no way to verify. The only one I had mounted was destroyed in a house fire. 25#, 1 1/2" Spurs, 3 beards. 8.25", 4.50", 3". I moved on that bird 5 times, and finally got him at 11:40.
  4. Look forward to the book. I've taken several over the yrs that would qualify. Good luck with the book.
  5. What a trophy. Congrats to both of you. It's going to make a fantastic mount.
  6. That's just wrong.. And I was complaining about having the heat on in the middle of May.
  7. Temp has to be consistent and at a specific temp, think it's 95*. Humidity has to be consistent too. Too hot and they cook, to cool and they won't do anything but rot...
  8. We had a great hunt this morning. I was expecting to get soaked, but we beat the rain. About 5:15, we could hear hens all around us. Luckily leaf out is complete, and nothing seen us as we were only 50 yrds from the nearest hen. After some soft calling, we seen a couple fly down into the field, and finally heard a gobble. Took about 3 minutes and we had a jake 15 yrds out. Kayden made a great shot. His buddy has his his safety course, and has asked if I could take him hunting. I think the bug bit him good.
  9. Thanks. I've seen several toms and jakes in the fields today.
  10. Taking my grandnephew and his buddy out tomorrow. His buddy has never hunted. I'm super excited to get him hooked. I'm praying for a classic hunt. Nothing better than getting a youth that has no avenue into hunting hooked.
  11. Enjoy every single second you have with her. It's beyond special.
  12. Damm right. Don't think I would say anything, but sob uncontrollably.
  13. No way in hell would I say anything bad about your mom, and I think I could beat you ass easily. Lol Lost my mom in '04. Think about her every day. Happy mother's day mom... I love you and miss you so much. Happy mother's day to all you mom's out there.
  14. This came out fantastic... Turkey was Very tender and juicy. The filling was delicious.
  15. Wild turkey breast, brined overnight, stuffed with cream cheese, fresh picked leeks, green pepper, and garlic. Wrapped up in a bacon weave. On the pit @225* with hickory.
  16. If I was a doctor, I'd prescribe hunting for constipation.
  17. I've seen a couple over the yrs, definitely makes you do a double take. I had pics of the one I seen, but they were taken on a disk camera. Remember those? I lost most of my pics to a busted water pipe.
  18. That's fantastic. Congrats to both of you. Go make some memories and post lots of pics in the process.
  19. Looks like he's guarding those chicks. Lol. My dog... Chicks would have lasted about 1 second each.
  20. That's the way to do it. Congrats. Those hunts where you need to move several times to get the job done are the most satisfying, IMHO.
  21. Had two hens and two jakes in the field. Closest they got was 75yrds. I was impressed, my grandnephew didn't fall asleep this time.
  22. Raining here in 4u. Toms have been out in this field 3 mornings in a row, but not 4. Sticking it out for another hr here. Then we're going to run and gun.
