Rabid raccoon bites youth turkey hunter
mowin replied to turkeyfeathers's topic in General Chit Chat
Scary situation for him and his dad. I hope this doesn't discourage the youngster from hunting. -
Wow, no answer, but hopefully It's not as bad as it looks.

That a mile of smiles. Congrats to the hunters and the mentors. Great story, felt like I was sitting beside you two, and shaking as much as Gavin.

My dad served in WWII. Was in France, Belgium, and Germany. Got wounded twice, second time got him sent home. He would never watch a war movie, or talk about his time overseas. Band of Brothers is one of my favorite miniseries. Full metal jacket is another one of my favorites.

About 30 minutes after I get there.

That's fantastic. Opening your land to a youth is outstanding.

Went for a ride this morning around 6:30. Didn't see a single car or truck parked along the back roads. Seen tons of birds and deer though.

She couldn't find any Easter eggs, so it makes sense to go to the source.

Here is barely after 11pm. Wide awake like I'm stressing about making it happen for a youth hunter. Fingers crossed for those lucky enough to have a youth to mentor this season. I'm living vicariously through you people this yr. It's truly been the greatest memories of my hunting lifestyle.

Got my mowers serviced and ready to go. Got 24 lawns. 1.5 to 7 acres in size. I'll be mowing some of them next week if it dries out enough so I don't sink. Most likely I won't be able to mow next week and have to wait. It'll be super thick and wet making it a nightmare to look good.

No canning here. The cooler wasn't a PITA, it just had no effect on the quality of meat after aging. It definitely came in handy when a early bow deer was taken. Our family was, like yours, ate venison probably 4-5 days a week. Things have changed since mom and dad passed. We don't use close to the amount of venison as before. My wife won't eat anything that doesn't have a supermarket label on it. So it's just me in this household. Most of my and families venison goes to my nephew who passed away family. His kids inhale the stuff.

If you see someone reading a book, consult your psychologist...

I'm sleeping in... No youth to mentor this yr. First time in 12 years I'm not going out. I've made a bunch of call to friends, friends of friends and even some I don't consider friends. I'll probably wake up at 4am and lie awake thinking of past youth hunts. Good luck to those that go out. Keep the figure 8's tight.

We're going to have to agree to disagree. I've proceed all my own deer. Used to have a walk in cooler in the garage. Got rid of it because there's no benefit to aging venison, IMHO. In my experience, those that don't like venison, haven't liked it for years, MOST don't like it just because it's venison. Take a prime rib, cook it to perfection, and tell them it's venison, and most will say it's disgusting because it's Bambi.

I've never aged my deer. Lots of mature bucks and older does. Shot, hung to cool, processed within 3-5 days. Juice, tender, and delicious. The rule of 7-10 days of aging is hype.

Just a bump in hopes someone responds ..

Wouldn't have to tell me to run. He can have the fish.

I've had 'em square off against my truck. Little bird syndrome. Lol

Happy birthday NT...

Damm is that nice... Gotta convince the wife to take a road trip and pick up a couple of your works of art.

Ya, not overly optimistic, sad to say. I don't do FB. I'll probably call in a few birds during the regular season, but won't pull the trigger on any of 'em.
