  2. I work in construction. Started in the field about 40 yrs ago both hands-on and supervisory. Wide range of projects small and large, but mainly municipal and commercial. Now I am a desk jockey with perhaps 5-10% time spent in the field. Was hoping to retire in next few years, but recent losses to 401k have pushed that out to probably 8-10 yrs.....maybe. 9. Triple crown in my book. Old warrior buck survived on state land. Octogenarian took him with a bow on state land. Taxi did a great job of honoring buck and giving the hunter a memory that will last the rest of his life. Kudos! Thanks for sharing. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  10. My current bow is 12 yrs old. The one before that was 8 yrs old when I gave it away. Still have a Hoyt that's over 30 yrs old, just because it is so easy to introduce new archers to, if needed. When I first started archery I changed bows every 2-3 yrs. Then, technology was changing rapidly and bows were getting noticably better and faster every yr. Now the rate of improvement seems to have plateaued, so longer time to obsolescence. That's my take anyway. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  11. No plans at this time. Next trip will probably be for prong horn in WY 2021 or 2022. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  12. Not a fan of chocolates? Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  13. First deer I killed I split the pelvis and sternum. That was the 1st and last time. Last deer this year got semi- processed in the field and taken out in game bags. Most deer get gutted where they fall, using the long gloves and double latex wrist length gloves. No sternum or pelvis cuts. I put the long gloves on only to reach up into the cavity to cut the windpipe etc. Once gutted, the outer latex gloves go into the long gloves and get turned inside out and packed out. Once carcass is loaded onto truck the 2nd pair of latex get removed and wipes are used to clean up as needed. When I hunted in GA & FL, the custom was to bring carcass out whole, then hang and process the deer with a half drum underneath to catch the guts, etc. Toting and emptying the half drum was an unpleasant chore though. 14. I am out with the shotgun since morning. Took a walk at lunch and saw 6 does. I am just too slow, they ran past at about 50 yds and stood at around 83. Too far for me. Walk back to the stand and fresh tracks within 50 yds. Still have a few hours. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  15. As others have said, I have not hunted the middle of swamps, but have hunted the edges. I have not taken any deer from them, but have passed on several deer and seen a few before legal light that would have been chip shots. I always worry about recovery, so tend to hold off on any shots other than what I consider the perfect opportunity, before sending an arrow. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  16. Not today, but plan on going out Sunday, either standby with shotgun or in the PM with the bow. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  17. Not to derail this thread, but I've caught a 14 pounder on hand line Kon-Tiki style. Great memory. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  18. If Dinsdale was going I'd cancel all plans and make the GTG. Meeting the WNY guys would be cool, but Dinsdale is epic. LoL. Just sayin'. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  19. AT will have to represent Long Is. I can't make it this year. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  20. Sorry for your loss. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  21. I'm in, with the bow. Made an impulse decision to get out in the woods instead of watching tv. Have low expectations of seeing deer, but it is too nice a day to just sit on the couch. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  22. Congrats. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  23. My advice is to do everything by the book, of course - follow all zoning regulations, contact the tax assessor, etc. Some folks may just put a trailer, shed or other improvement on their land out of sight and out of mind and get away with it, but you may not be so lucky. 24. Happy New Year!! Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  25. Did not see any deer, but it was a beautiful day to be in the woods. Happy New Year all! Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
