Is anyone else tired of farmed deer on magazines?

I don't know about anyone else, but I am sick of seeing some nontypical, blunt-tined, white-antlered, pedigree-bred, pellet-fed bucks on the covers and in articles of some of what I thought were decent hunting magazines. Granted, a lot of Alsheimer's photos are of captive deer, but at least they look like I might see one like that when I'm hunting. I have no problem with pictures of huge wild bucks, but when they are clearly farm deer and their picture is at the beginning of an article about stand location its like using tattooed porn stars as models in a Victoria's Secret catalog.

It's getting so that I don't even look at the covers anymore. When the magazines come I simply look to see which one it is and then open it up and start reading. They could put a picture of a horse on the cover and I probably wouldn't even notice. Yeah, I got sick of that nonsense a long time ago, and I'm not really all that impressed anymore.

I would much rather see a nice clean 135" 8 point with a swelled up neck and broken brow tine than a 37 point cultured pearl.

P.S. Dave- I didn't say anything about anyone's imagination

How many of those 135 inch 8 pointers with a broken tine have you seen in Ny State. Not many i would guess....

Probably just one of the reasons why Fur Fish and Game is still my go to mag. You dont see pictures on the cover you see paintings of wildlife.

Absolutely my favorite magazine. Would you believe that I subscribed to that magazine when I was about 12 or 13. I never had much, but always managed to scrape together enough berry picking and combine bagging money to be sure to make that subscription money to go along with another dozen traps .... lol.

The covers are great but the articles are fantastic!

Its all about the $...You would not buy a playboy book with susan boyle on the front cover would you? You also know that what you see on the front cover of most girly mags, You will never get but you sure like to look at it. No different in deer. You see something on the cover,(Even though its something we have but you will probably never have) that you like to look at, even though most will never have it. Mind games i guess and plays on emotions.

Alsheimer has been doing it for 30 years. Why all the fuss now?

His pics were/are as phony as anything now, just better drugs for the captive deer.

Kind of true... the deer he takes pics of are definitely fenced in on a big tract of land.. but live naturally without much human intervention. I use to photograph in the same spot as Charlie... until he purchased his own piece of property.. the deer are not altered in any way to produce extra large racks or body size... they are just protected from being hunted so that they can be observed without fear of losing them to an arrow or a bullet. For all intent and purpose live the way they would anywhere, except for being protected so that they make it to an older age. But, yes, it is a controlled environment making it easier to get good photos.

Tattooed porn stars and Victoria's secret sounds like fun to me. Seriously though I can't watch any hunting shows. All I want to do is take these idiots 6 miles into the Adirondack and say show me what you got. Then watch them come crawling out a week later draging nothing other than there own butts.
