growalot
So the other day Mr B. comes home and asks whats up with the door locking?...you have the door locked when I get home every night for the last couple of months.....I Told him I just have had a feeling so it's locked ..he laughed and asked if I was expecting the Boogie man? Well well...He JUST called me...the alerts gone up in the area and the day time break ins have started again...be on the look out for a red truck with wheel well flares and a dark SUV....So the boogie man IS back!...I'm ordering a drive way alarm today...seeing we're 100yrds back off the road with only one way in... fasteddie
If you have a Harbor Freight nearby , you could grab one of these . I have used a similar one for a different purpose . When something is picked up by the sensor , the unit will beep for a bit and the light will flash . I put camo on my sensing unit . http://www.harborfreight.com/wireless-driveway-alert-system-93068.html

ants
Always lock your doors!!! Day, night, rain, shine whatever. My mother, who lives alone, would never lock her doors during the day, no matter how much I yelled at her about it. She lives in a decent neighborhood, but she thinks it still 1960. One day about 6 or 7 years ago she was out front working on her flowers. It was about 11:00 A.M. she went in the house, through the front door, to find a burglar . excuse me, (piece of S--t) standing in her kitchen holding her purse. Thankfully the burglar, I mean Piece of s--t, ran back out the back door, with the purse. It could have ended a lot differently. Lock the doors!!! growalot
I don't normally worry...because the boys alarm me to every thing... They can tell when deer are 200yrds out back as well as having a perfect view down the drive Angel...she is one nasty little booger when unknown cars or ppl even walk down the road....I've trained her to grab an arm if it is placed as a guard across ones chest when given a command...Yet as long as I'm home and give the OK she is the sweetest dog...What I love about Shepherds...they are the easiest.... intelligent dogs to train.. Like I mentioned I got one of my feelings...When that happens I don't know exactly when something is going to happen...I just know it is...can't explain it better than that...but I've yet to be wrong ever...I use to tell the family but then I got the "don't say anything Mom you jinx us"...now I just quietly stay alert and carefully stick warnings in their heads...lol
fasteddie
What if they don't use the driveway? Even crooks are lazy . The odds are that they would use the driveway for convenience so they could load stolen items in a vehicle . I would put camo on any sensor left out . A few years ago friends of ours from Williamson were robbed when they weren't home . It was during the winter months and they had photos of footprints left in the snow and tied it in with some other robberies . Apparently the thieves would watch homes and look for a pattern as to when the home owners would come and go and figure the best time to perform a robbery . They took cameras , TVs , VCR and jewelry . Some of the jewelry was of sentimental value . The thieves were caught and were wearing the snearers that made the prints . Another friend on Ridge Road in Ontario said his neighbors across the street were working in the back yard . The wife came into the house to find someone with her purse . He ran out the front door , jumped in a waiting car and they sped off . We used to leave our garage door open all night long and have the cars unlocked in the driveway . Not any more . Thieves hit out tract and the one behind us a few years ago . The cops said that the culprits would hit Newark then Ontario , go to Lyons , etc and jump around the county . I had 2 pellet rifles taken from my garage in broad daylight because I had left the garage door open for some carpenters . ADT is a good system to use also ! growalot
The good thing about our place is there is a deep gully that runs across/under Our drive...They'd have to climb a steep hill if they came through the woods to one side...be in a wide open muddy field on the other side and would have to travel 1 half mile through the woods and through another deeper gully to get to us from the road behind us...besides anyone casing the place...has seen me walking the property with a rifle on my shoulder..per Mr B's request

Paula
we do alot of shooting here, not that it makes a difference, but we always leave shells laying around outside so they can be seen by anyone coming near house. plus i am sure the shooting bench and board says it all. We also lock everything

erussell
I placed a sign about halfway down my driveway that says no tresspassing, violators will be shot survivors will be shot again. The other day my dogs went nuts and I looked out the window. There were 4 JW's standing in the driveway reading the sign. They turned around and left. I wish I knew it was that easy, I would have put the sign up earlier.

growalot
I say get a couple bear traps. Lol that should keep them vandals away. That would be a plan except remember...in New York you have to have dangers on your property marked or even trespassing thieves can sue you into the dirt
growalot
Now ya got me going... I picture being killed by robbers and them stepping in bear trap while leaving...Then Mr B gets arrested not only for their injuries but the DEC fines him and suspends his license for illegal bear trapping.... Early
Many "break ins" are effected without any "breaking"...or little of it. As advised earlier: KEEP YOUR DOORS AND WINDOWS LOCKED!!! Rig some jimmy proof devices on doors and windows that are on the back side of your house, or are located where neighbors and passersby can't monitor them for you. Doors and windows that require actual "breaking" to get into your house often deter common burglars. Remember: Thieves want to get in and out quickly, and as quietly as possible. Anything you can do to slow them down will help.
