Doc
This kind of tragedy has touched our family directly, so I know what is going on in the hearts and lives of this guy's family and friends. It's an all too often story that we hear over and over every hunting season.
Cabin Fever
Unfortunately, I'm sure this won't be the last one that we hear about this fall.... WEAR THOSE SAFETY HARNESSES, LINEMANS BELTS, AND USE LIFELINES!!!! http://www.huntersafetysystem.com/
SteveB
Saddest part is that it is almost 100% preventable with use of safety equipment.

Five Seasons
tough to hear. safety should always be our first priority and if at all possible when hanging stands try to get someone to go with you and give you a hand.

WNYBuckHunter
Sad to hear. I feel for the guys family. As has been said, wear those safety harnesses and be careful out there. It only takes an extra few seconds to strap in.
CuseHunter
So sad to hear of this happening. I just bought a new gorilla G30 harness for $90 on eBay and couldn't be happier with the quality. Best $90 I've spent on any hunting gear. happy happy happy
Man! how many times have I climbed a tree to cut a branch or hang a stand without a harness ??? I got smart once I got married and had someone else to think about. I tie in for everything now. I feel for the family. Please stay safe and if not for yourselves think of your loved ones. They will be the ones to suffer most.
Ted
I hunt on the property where I believe this happened. Didnt know the guy but know the owners, they will be devastated. Can anyone recommend a harness for those of us with a 'fuller figure' (6ft 330 lb, 2x just isnt quite big enough).

The HSS has a 4X/5X you could inquire about. http://www.huntersafetysystem.com/wp-content/uploads/HSS-900_OrderForm.pdf I see their 2X/3X is rated to 300lbs, so the 4X/5X should do the trick for you. tuttled
Awful to hear, best wishes to the family members. Bought a safety vest which is hands down the best outdoor investment I've made, the ones that come with stands are cheap. Everyone be safe out there and strap in. greg54
Tragic story to hear. Prayers go out to his family. Due to physical and health problems, I can't hunt from a stand and hunt from ground blind. Hope everyone has a very safe and successful season. CuseHunter
Too bad this had to happen. That's the risk you face though when playing such a dangerous sport.

Doc
Is it really that dangerous? X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems Statistically no. But still, don't try to tell that to a family that has just suffered a loss of this sort. My guess is that the danger level is proportional to the level of carelessness involved. Most of us at one time or another encounter a belief in our immortality and invincibility that is when the percentages begin to climb. Beware of becoming too complacent simply because of some national statistics.
