boo711
I saw it on the news at 6 tonight. Not closing but they will be relocating jobs to I believe Alabama(dont remember exactly what state they said). This will mean that less people will be employed here

So while there might not be a huge loss of current jobs, the loss of potential jobs is huge. You have to really laugh at these commercials inviting businesses to NY. I applaud Governor Bentley of Alabama, standing up for the 2nd Amendment and for the "People" of his fine state! Suilleabhain
The problem I see with King Andy and with his father is they are expert at playing both sides. Mario took all the DEC money and tossed it into the general treasury and locked up the highway funds. Then right before elections he starts road repair, toll removal and all this BS. Everyone bought it. Andy will do the same, screw us all year, then start throwing bones around. And, the people will buy it. 5 boroughs NYC people don't see it. They live insulated lives and think the country ends out side city borders. They will always back a Cuomo, they are treated like Kennedys, cannot be faulted no matter how much dirt is on them. Culvercreek hunt club
The poop is that is will be a major relocation of jobs. The majority of the workers at the Ilion plant will be let go. Those jobs that are in Alabama are jobs that are currently being done in NY. I give it one more year and the Ilion plant will be shut down. Suilleabhain
Works right into the inequality of income. When they are done we will all be working 20 hours a week and on some form of dole. Serfs to the overlords.
coonhunter
Sad thing is that a lot of the jobs are good paying jobs for laborers, and not just management. Now, the workers will probably be stuck on unemployment for as long as possible, and then, have to take a lower paying job. Don't get me wrong, the good lathe and mill operators/programmers can and will find work, but you start out with few to no benefits.
pewlodar
Sad to see them go but they are not the first gun company to leave NY. They would be the 4th by my unofficial count.

Doc
And don't be thinking that Remington is the only industry being forced out of the state by this governor and his anti-gun policies. American tactical is moving to South Carolina, Kahr Arms is heading for PA. and all Beikirch's expansion is heading for PA. And those are only the ones that I am aware of. The jobs, and sales and income tax money and all purchases of those potential employees ..... gone. This Governor has cost the state a pile of money, and for no good reason.

airedale
Can not blame Remington for it's new plant decision, it would have been hypocritical to build the facility in a state that has made it illegal to own many of the products it manufactures. landtracdeerhunter
Sad but remember NY is open for business Yes sir, bring or start a new business to NY. and enjoy 10 years of tax free savings. Who do you think pays for the added expenses that business creates? Existing business and property owners, hang on to your wallets! Remington Arms, Kahr Arms, American Tactical, Beikirch expansions; where are you going? Past programs ( IDA's) show this program receives an F. Mr VJP
Remington is doing the right thing. If you are employed by them in NY, I'm sure they will be offering you a job in the new plant down south if you are willing to relocate. It would be a great chance to get off a sinking ship. All of the other businesses in Ilion that make money off the plant, or the workers at Remington Arms, are going to be out of luck though. They should be the ones screaming at Cuomo.
