8 months until the election

Recommended Posts

We're second amendment supporters, and we have just 8 months until we have the opportunity to make a difference in how we live.

Do you care, one way or the other?

If you do care what are you doing about it?

Talking to and informing friends?

Donating to campaigns?

Helping to organize an opposition?

Time to act folks,

Mark

Hopefully, Cuomo's little slight of hand (along with the help of his slimy accomplices) has perhaps caused a lot of gun owners to join some of the various gun advocacy organizations. Hopefully, all of this dishonest anti-gun legislation has caused some discussion that is spreading outside of the normal channels. And hopefully the anger over the activities of the safe act supporters have galvanized some of the solidarity that will translate into voting out these scoundrels.

What else needs to be done? Well, there needs to be a huge gun-owner registration drive and an effort to see that gun-owner get to the polls. That is a grass-roots activity that we can all get in on as a one-on-one activity. I think we all know some gun-owners that are known to be totally politically inactive. We need these people to be properly inspired through discussion, and hand led to become active voters .

Those who have talent for writing can also get involved in "letters to the editor" newspaper campaigns.

There are little things as well as the larger things that can have impacts on this upcoming election.

And you are absolutely right, we only have 8 very short months to accomplish the task of the underdog. That sounds like a lot of time, but there is an awful lot of work to do.

And by the way to refresh your memory of who the legislators were that stabbed us all in the back, refer to the following thread:  http://huntingny.com/forums/topic/17272-lest-we-forget/

Have you discovered Face Book yet? It operates like a viral analog and it is now days an absolute must. Another thing, forums, such as this one, which throttle individuals and/or allow other individuals to go on about stuff they no nothing about, need to shape up. When you got 2 or 3 forum members out of 350 people in the entire state who raise deer, speaking authoritatively for 800, 000 hunters while mocking the DEC and wildlife science in general - you got issues as they say...

Understood, Mike Rossi.

Facebook is probably the best tool for mass-organizing. I was involved with it in the early days, but have since given up out of frustration with the attention span of the members. Maybe I should give it another look though.

I've been working face-to-face with everyone that'll listen, informing people of the issues involved in the SAFE act and persuading them to vote against the people who helped to get it enacted.

I'm amazed at the number who don't realize just how far-reaching the SAFE act is and are unaware of the questionable and shameful way that it was introduced and passed into legislation.

I will give them a link to the list of legislators and their voting records on the issue, and urge them to get out and vote to change things.

A very small step I know, but it's something.

After a very quick search of possible early candidates:

Rob Astorino is the current Westchester county executive.

Very much against the SAFE act and and has said he will seek to repeal it.

He also seems to be very much for natural gas exploitation, including fracking.

It would appear that he has access to adequate financing to make a serious run for governor.

Ed Cox is currently the chairman of the Republican State Committee.

I'll confess that I didn't do much research here but didn't see anything that looked like a platform.

Steve McLaughlin is currently a member of the NYS house of representatives®.

One of the few who voted against the SAFE act.

No further info at this time.

Carl Palladino has stated that he will run if not opposed by Donald Trump.

No new platform or agenda that I could find. See info for the 2010 race for the basics.

Donald Trump has stated that he will run if there is no opposition in a primary race.

No info on what his agenda or platform might be.

Like I said, a very quick glance at the candidates. Lots more info about Astorino than the others because it seems he's serious about it and starting to talk. We won't know much more until they actually announce their contention.

I'll keep updating as this moves forward.

Astorino is officially in, as other threads have stated.

Lots of info out there.

His stance on drilling/fracking for natural gas causes me some concern. Lots of info both for and against to sift through.

Aside from NG, good clean water is one of the few things we have in our state. I'll have to think hard about possibly putting that in jeopardy. Great for the economy in the short term, but at what cost for the long term?

Any thoughts?

Bet we don't see the ammo background check till after elections.

that shouldn't matter, if someone doesn't care about gun ownership they don't care about that either.........if you do, you should be well aware that it's coming and that delay should mean nothing to you.

Glad to see the discussion here. Thanks for the video link Mmkay.

Good polished presentation, wish he had mentioned the SAFE act in the video. Also no direct mention of the natural gas issues. Not necessarily a deal-breaker for me, but more info is required.

It's early, we'll see.

The second link I posted (add'l video's) has about a dozen add'l videos...I think they go into natural gas and the safe act on those
