if a turkey walks by while deer hunting do you shoot it?? I've only done it once and miss judged the distance and shot right over top of a jake. seeing a bunch of birds on my trailcam and wont hesitate to bring one or two home with me this fall, assuming they don't bust me!

Its the way a lot of fall birds are shot at.. if you miss break them up and go get a gun or call em back with the bow... we've gotten birds in the fall by one guy shooting one from a stand with bow breaking them up and getting everyone out bow/gun when they regroup..

Shoot em. Just remember their wings will make a racket for a little bit and possibly spook other game. If it was me I would do it, at least you walk out with something!

I don't really hunt in the fall. More focus during deer season. I've called them right on then. Boss hen usually gets rowdy to redirect the flock.

I often felt that the sight of turkey will put deer at ease. My Father in law swore by this and I can't tell you how many times we let the turkey be and watched the deer follow close behind.

If turkey's could smell as good as deer you would never be able to shoot. They have wicked hearing and sight.

I've made many "cougar-like" stalks on what I hoped was a monster buck only to come up on a flock of thunderchickens scratching for mast. Who says turkeys can't be stalked? The only things I'll shoot from a treestand are deer, bear, yotes & fox. Turks are fun to watch and I too feel that they put deer at ease.

What do you use to shoot them?  Do you just pull out your arrow with your deer broadhead?  or do you carry an arrow specifically for a turkey?

Any sharp broadhead will do if you can hit your mark.

So true. been busted by more turkeys than I can count.

Any chance i get I take it. shot one last year out of the stand had to stand perfectly still for 30 minutes and got busted by the lead hen on the draw. Managed to slip an arrow at a hen who was away from the flock. An hour later shot a doe and walked out with a turkey/deer combo.

Yup I will & do & I just use my regular broadheads

I guess I just am hesitant to waste a $25 broadhead on a turkey! 

 

If it gets ruined shooting a wallhanger deer, so be it.  For a turket....eh....not so much.

 

I think I will just throw an extra arrow in my quiver with an old broadhead just in case.
