Gonna head out for an afternoon hunt today waiting for the wife to get back from picking my daughter up from school ill leave the house at 1 and be in my stand by 145-2. I'm pumped

Very interesting sit for me this morning. I had patterned BigBoy (see pic) along a particular corridor going right from one end of our woods to the bottom section. We are on hill ,so the parcel is inclined. I noted during the snow that he was coming from his top bedding area on a neighbors parcel and bedding down for a bit in our bottom section, along a ridge line. I moved a stand in to take advantage. Also, trail cam pics showed him heading from the top just before 6 am on a couple of occasions. I figured if I could get to the bottom stand before then I might have a chance at him if he beds down along the ridge before moving off for the day.

Well, this morning, things nearly went exactly to plan. I got into my stand about about 5:45. Nice morning, a light breeze in my favor and the moon was lighting up the woods. I was not 5 minutes sitting down when I heard this almighty crashing and branch breaking, coming directly at me through the trees. I knew it was him, and I was amazed that my plan seemed to be coming together.

I just needed him to bed down in the general area and wait for sun-up. At about 40 yards he snorted and gave out the alarm call. I couldn't believe it. No way he saw me. I was well covered in my stand position and had not moved , and the very light breeze had me down wind of him. I must have left scent on the way in. He pretty much followed my trail to the stand area. He crunched around me for a bit and I thought I might get away with it, but come daylight he was not around. I don't know if my scent trail spooked him or if he was honking at some critter. He honked at my cat during the summer one time.

It was a pretty amazing encounter, even though I couldn't really see him. Attached is a 5:14 am pic he gave me at the other end of the property, just a short while before he headed down to my position at about 5:55. I think I will try again tomorrow. That was awesome.

A trophy wall hanger is nice.

Meat in the freezer is better.

But this type of encounter is trurly what hunting is all about.

Another nice sit...heard deer but never breeches ridge...Got down late so I could walk another ridge and set a cam...I hear snap half way there and see a thick bright white rack held high trotting away from me ..it's head is just below the ridge line and all I see is rack...one of the big boys is still around!

I went To east aurora for an evening sit I call the spot my doe spot its a small area surrounded by houses on one side and the 400 on the other side. I say in the stand until 4 climbed down walked a couple hundred yards to see if the deer were in the area sure enough I see a doe trot off 75 yards away. I get down on one knee into a shooting position because I know there's always more then one deer over here sure enough a nice doe at 80 yards I get into position touch off the shot the cloud of smoke then deer erupt from all around me 20 plus deer running in all directions some coming with in 10 yards of me on their mad dash for cover one foe runs right up to me and stops 5 feet from Me while I'm reloading just as I grab the primer she takes off. I walk over to where the deer was that I shot at I can't find any blood or anything there's tons of tracks can't tell which were her tracks so I walked all around to look for sign I didn't find any but just to make sure I'm gonna go over there during or after work tomorrow to look again. I seen more deer tonight then I seen all of bow and gun combined

      Hi Everyone, 
      It is current the last week for regular season in upstate NY. Living the life working and being a full time student, I have some time off this week and would like to take a ride upstate to do a gun hunt. Never have I hunted public land in the areas 3 G, F, or N and was looking for some recommendations and help! I had used the DEC info locator and found California Hill and thought I might go there. Is there any recommendations on areas to go to in any of the wmu’s? Or on California? Any help would be really appreciated!!

      Hello everyone I’m currently looking at a house in deposit ny I’ve been deer hunting for many year mainly in Columbia and Greene county never been to Broome county. Before anything I was just curious how is the hunting there ? I know there aren’t any antlered restrictions in Broome but are there monsters out there or is it mainly just small spike? If anyone from that county or knows about deposit and broome county would get back to me i would appreciate it. Hope everyone hunting today catch a big one thanks.

      What are the best steps carry a bow on your back?

      The procedure below to carry the bow is detailed below:
      You have to use a cotton towel or something similar. You have to wrap it around the bowstring. Doing so ensures that it will not cause an injury with the bowstring coming in contact with your body. It will not be that sharp either. Once you cover the bowstring with the towel, you have to wear it like a sling. So that it will not fall away from your body. The best way to cover the bowstring is to use a large enough towel. You can wrap it around twice as well. When making a sling out of the cotton towel, you have to ensure that you tighten it to get a snug fit. In that case, it will not slip away. Consequently, it will remain in place. When using this technique to carry a bow on your back, it is essential to practice before going in the wilderness. Only when you can move briskly and without noise using the scanning mechanism should you go ahead with it. To remove the bow, you have to hold it at the bottom. After that, you have to slip it over your head as well as arm. Doing so ensures that you can remove it quickly. When trying to focus on a prey, you need to remove the bow quickly. The technique for removal that we have highlighted above can certainly help you do so.

      I'm new to the area and looking for some places to hunt  the next few weekends through bow/muzzleloader season. I'm living in New Paltz, and the place that seems the most promising to me so far is Vernooy Kill State forrest, and north into Sundown. Has anyone had any luck in these areas? Is there anywhere better in the area I should check out? Any info is welcome

      Hi Everyone,
      My name is Raul and I am a new hunter! I've been hunting public land for now, but have been suffering. I've done 2 10 hour sits at Kings Park and 3 10 hour sits at Rocky Point and haven't seen one deer. I use a treestand and use scent blocker. I also get there super early in the morning. I need help! I plan to go again this friday. I scouted Rocky point after the first day and always see sign and I try to hunt the areas, but no success. I hunt around 42 and 36 I think. If someone wants the exact spot I can send them it on a map. I am really just looking for help in any areas and everything. I have put so much effort yet all i want is to just see one that will keep moral up. Any help is really appreciated!
