Fletching vs buying pre fletched arrows

I've recently been thinking about building my own arrows from the shaft up. Is there really a big difference in doing such compared to buying pre fletched arrows. I shoot the easton axis 400's with 2 inch blazers. I would most likely go with a straight offset if i were to build them anyway. Any input would be appreciated.

I've bought a lot of arrows in my lifetime, never got into DIY fletching. So I can only speak about the quality of purchased arrows. Most on-line archery sites can customize arrows to your specifications; arrow brand/model, cut to length, style, color & offset of vanes, inserts, wraps, etc. I've had mixed results from these sources, as have I at local shops. Can see the allure of DIY arrow building! FYI - Do a little more research on vane offset before investing in a fletching jig.

I bought my Bitzenburger set up 26-27 years ago second hand for $25 from a archery shop on Rt 15A in Hemlock that was going closing.  Also got a couple 100ct bags of barred full length feathers!!

I have fletched my own arrows and arrows for others since then.  My Bitzenburger would be one of the first things I'd grab if the house was ablaze..... ;)

Maybe you don't save much (or anything) by fletching your own but I enjoy the control and the fact that I can grab an arrow with a monkeyed up vane and replace it in minutes without heading to an archery shop. Choosing the color of the fletch, doing it on my time and experimenting with other things make for more enjoyment.

I used to build my own flu flu arrows, four fletched. Did 5" feathers on my hunting arrows years ago and now down to 2" Blazers, all with that antique Bitzenburger.

If you buy one now, it should last three lifetimes.  Hurry......................................

I have fletched many arrow shafts cedar, aluminum and carbon , some on the shaft and some on wraps on the shaft. If all the parts are cleaned properly and useing the correct adhesive, you should not have a problem with the fletching coming off. I have recently got into buying the shafts fletched by the company I buy them from and had no problems with them either.

Not that hard to build your own arrows. But not sure if its much of a cost savings over time if that's the goal. I enjoy it and at least I know my vanes are staying put. Plus you can try different configurations and see what flies best for you. I just recently moved to 4 fletch with rt helical mini blazers. Love the way they fly. If I didn't build my own, I probably would not have tried it.

So it sounds like it's more experimenting and enjoyment of the process. Il check out a bitzenburger and maybe start to just mess around with it.

If you want to get more involved with your hobby, fletching arrows would be the logical step.  Kind of like a guy that reloads, builds his own fishing rods, ties his own flies, plants food plots etc.  All those things can keep you connected to your passion through out the year.

back in the 80's and 90's I built all my own ceder arrows up from raw shafts.  Stain, seal, dip, crest, taper, fletch and glue on heads.  Broadheads were all purchased and needed to be sharpened, by hand.  I have a bunch of friends that took it one step further; they built their own bows.  Recurves and longbows, mostly one piece but some were takedown models.  And perfect!

How far do you want to go?  Its all fun!

Lease available for 2018 in Steuben County close to town of Greenwood. Looking for a max of 2 hunters (flexible if you have kids and would like them to hunt as well).
I would like to open this up to responsible hunters who have a passion for hunting and whitetails. I am trying to give back to the land and create new deer habitat every year. Looking for hunters that will treat the place like their own and enjoy the time out in the woods. Lots of wildlife (Bear, Deer, Turkey, Grouse, Fox, Coyote, etc.)
      21 Acres
Walking distance to State Land (Rock Creek State Forest) and short ride to Turkey Ridge SF, and Greenwood SF where you can enjoy several thousand acres of hunting land.
      Several treestands on the property.
Fall foodplots will be going in around July/August 2018 (3 Acres)
Apple, Pear, Chestnut Tree Plots established and producing fruit as of 2017
If you are interested and would like more information please let me know.

Just wanted to post a video of one of my successful bow hunts this year. Something about documenting your hunt and self filming adds even more of a rewarding feeling to a bow harvest when it all comes together. *Disclaimer*  I don't think I'm a "pro" nor am I trying to be just love filming and tinkering around with the editing. The audio on the video from my second doe harvest is much better than this one, I figured out a few tricks with the editing software recently and I'll have that one done by the weekend. You can skip through the talking parts if you want the shot happens around the 3:20 mark.

Hey everyone. Looking to join a hunting club in light of the upcoming start of the  2017-2018 deer season. I live in Elmira and work a lot, so ideally I would like to hunt as close to where I live as possible. I almost exclusively bowhunt, but will use a rifle periodically. I just moved here from Atlanta about a year ago, so I'm still relatively new to the area and haven't found a place to hunt yet. Thank you!

      Hey guys,
It's always been a dream of mine to someday run an outfit. I know it's no walk in the park to start up a bussiness, espically in a state like NY but I was wondering if anyone on here has any information and tips they wouldn't mind sharing.
