Need some help from my fellow bow hunters.
Thursday night I got a 26 yard broadside shot on my target buck. The shot felt and looked perfect. He took off and I watched him run across an open field with his front leg not working and it appeared to be blood covered already. I calmed down for 10 mins and expected to see him piled up in the field. To my surprise, he was not. So I went to the shot site and could not find a drop of blood whatsoever. About 10 foot from the shot site I recovered my arrow which was broken off approx 2-3” above the fixed blade broadhead with blood up the shaft another 5-6 inches.  I backed out, went to the house and got lights and my 4 wheeler and searched for an hour. Never bumped the deer and never found an oz of blood. So i backed out and had 2 very seasoned hunters come help me grid search for 2 hours where we covered a ton of ground.
I shoot 70lbs and only use fixed blades. I felt like that should have gone through the shoulder at least enough to hit 1 lung.   The shot was apparently a bit forward but I thought for sure it was fatal.
what are y’all’s thoughts based on your experiences?

The shots that one would expect to be easy tracking jobs always turn out to be the toughest.  Last year's shot never offered us a  blood trail of any kind. Shot went right into the bred basket too. Found it the next day using my nose and playing the wind about 1/2 mile away.  We were lucky.

I take it, the broad head is in the deer. Sounds like a strong bone hit. Broadhead could be taring up the inside as the deer moving around.  Could be lodged in an area that won't do much harm.  50- 50 chance.

Good luck, hope you find or see him in the future.

It's warm and windy but here I am up in a tree on the hill. I don't expect much but thought maybe they are moving before the heavy rains in the area show up around 8. I just like being out here. Have seen 3 turkeys so far.

Missed a doe about 20 minutes ago at about 30 yards. I got down after they left the area and found the arrow no blood or hair so like I thought clean miss that's good. It's Alot better than having wounded her with a bad shot.

Went to Geneseo property with my son and grandson . I saw 2 big doe with the light from my ATV . i was in a stand in the woods by 6:15 . It was dark ! sat there until 11am and headed back to my car . We all sacked out for a while . I am no longer use to getting up at 3am to hunt . I had changed stands and sat overlooking a laneway , two corn fields and a gully lot . I had parked my ATV about 15 feet away from me at the laneway dead end . I saw a doe and 2 fawns behind me in the gully lot . They milled around and headed for the corn on my SILs property . Later I saw 3 fawns coming to the laneway one by one . two of them stopped and stared at my ATV . They came about 10 yards from my stand and never looked up . I was waiting for their mama but that didn't happen . Left when it got dark and headed for home 50 miles away .

One lungers can go miles..look for vultures if its dead they will lead you to it.

Crows can be a dead give-away too. I fond one deer just by checking out some heavy crow activity.

Well it happened. It happened twice. I went this afternoon to one of my favorite stands. It was a bit windy this afternoon but in there it is not so bad. Very tight shooting huge pine forest in front bedding areas all around. I've been seeing a lot of deer so by 5:40 I thought ok one of those nights I see nothing. Around 6 I hear some branches breaking behind me. Bear or deer for sure. 10 Minutes go by and I look behind me again and there are two bucks a 6 and 4 pt. Walking right to me. I was like ok make for some nice video. I take out the phone and look back and see three more deer all mature bucks! These 5 were traveling together. The little ones went off to my side and the bigger ones were coming in. There was a beautiful 10 pt. He was just perfect and a 8 pt that was not much smaller. The one I wanted was the big guy headed right for me. I'm going to tell you he was probably 24-26 wide, great mass but his rack was all screwed up. Some tines were broken or not there I think he was old but the body size on him, Me never seen any bigger had to be 200+. Our group shot a 219lbs years ago rack and deer size looked the same. So the big guy takes the lead and heads to my left. Stops 12 yards from my stand. My tree stand is in a split tree with two trunks had to get the arrow over and shoot through them. Then my harness was in the way it was crazy. I managed to unhook it and he was still there but started to stomp. I rushed the shot. I had my 10 yard pin on his chest (probably should of been lower) and he literally fell to the ground when he heard the bow release. Arrow went right over him. Trots off with his two friends in tow. They stop 40 yards out and keep looking in my direction. I do a few few doe bleats and he starts coming back. They all do. They veer of to my left and are even with me at 20 yards. At that point I didn't have a great shot and one of the bucks starts heading away. I bleat again and they all turn and come back a few yards. He gives me a clear shot at 25 yards and I just shoot under him. The trotted away......both arrows recovered no blood. It just didn't come together for me tonight. PLUS no wounded deer just wounded ego! Honesty never in 45 years of hunting did I see 5 bucks together. Amazing and its a long season!

Great story! No I've never seen 5 bucks together like that either heck I have enough problems finding 1. I hope you drop one of those Big Boys this year.

Slept 4 hrs last night it played in my mind over and over. Then at 1:20 am I relized what I did wrong. When I told my Brother in law the story I said I had my 10 on his lower chest and the 20 was above the shoulder. If you read that its impossible. The 10 is your top pin the 20 should of been below the deer it is below the ten yard pin. I had my 30 on his heart area and the 20 end up on shoulder. Upon rushing the shot I did not go through a sequence I practice. I always say top ten meaning the ten yard pin is at top. I didn't do this totally my fault. I said to him last night I have heart shot deer and messed hp like this at times when does it stop? He said when you put down the bow and call it quits!

Windy as heck tonight, as soon as it died the deer poured into the field at 6:45. I was already down setting the blind up for youth hunt. With my vehicle running right next to it, deer were walking right to me. Maybe that will be our strategy lol
