ANY IDEA?

Friends of mine have have had 4 cows killed in the last month. This is 40 miles north of Syracuse along the south eastern part of Lake Ontario. Myself and several others believe it to be a young male bear. One has been seen a few times and several pics of one on a trail cam in the area. Heard every thing from domestic dogs to wolves. I for one do not believe any of it. Not coyotes, they do not tend to pack up and pretty hard for a coyote to take down a cow. These cows are not bit on the flanks like a dog/coyote would. They are bit on the back and neck and the stomach opened. I have a couple pics of the cows but not the best.

Thoughts?  By the way, DEC do not seem concerned.

Bear seems likely. How big were the animals?

Time to call DEC for a nuisance permit. If they aren't concerned enough, go up the ladder. Livestock is not cheap. If a beekeeper can legally kill a bear, why not for cattle losses.

Of coarse DEC not concerned. Not their cows. Price of beef right now, that's a major loss.

Can you give us some more information, like where the the predator went for what part of the cows body?

They are down $8000 right now. On top of the back and top of neck and stomach.

Wish pics were better...but I have to say that they look like my goats did just not quite as bad...domestic dogs...ripped the faces off fully horned full grown Sanan/boerer goats and ripped open their guts and pulled out the unborn fetuses. Completely skinned the bucks face and tore out his neck and guts...

Same dogs attacked a full grown black Angus but owner interrupted it... that cow died 2 years ago, but they aren't saying what killed it...they own the dogs.....but...a kennel went up after the cow died....hhmmmm

My thoughts?  Matt & Sweat.

Send me the 125K.......... :)

I'd keep that quiet if those were my cows.

Wouldn't want the FBI yanking me out of bed in the middle of the night with a box of Q-tips to swab my "angus" for DNA!

Not worth the $125,000 IMO! :acute:

Just talking experience with the goat kills ..yes both dog and yote deer kills, I have seen were the hams/tails chewed off while alive...and yes the animal was their when found....There are NO ABSOLUTES when it comes to animals...had 2 goats killed by yotes and they ripped out the neck and spine..DEC investigated

Had domestic dogs do the above mentioned kill and they never touched the hind quarters on any of the goats they killed....faces and guts
