pewlodar
Across from Van Bortel car dealership. Yes closer to Victor but Victor really isn't that far from the mall and stores.
Nomad
Honestly I really don't care. I mean I go to Gander maybe once a year and find it underwhelming , I've been to field and stream once, I think I bought some jerky seasoning . For me at 56 I've got everything I need and outside of socks, sprays, and odds and ends the box stores don't carry much of the products I'd want to buy anyway . Hi , " do you carry Filson ? " no." Surefire lights" ? No. " Bark River knives"? No. Ok thanks bye.
wolc123
I went to the one in Niagara on the Lake today. It was nice and only 45 min from home. Light years better than Gander Mountain. Crossing into Canada at the Lewiston Queenston bridge cost $3.50, but no problems with traffic or parking. I hadn't been to Canada in ages, since the "enhanced license" requirement came up anyhow. Fortunately work sprung for a passport and that got me over and back with no hassle. I am kind of glad they put it there instead of the city of Buffalo, which has traffic and parking issues and is only 15 minutes closer for me. For the big ticket items, I just wanted to look and compare, then ordered on-line when I got home. You can bring back $100 worth of stuff without paying duty and the exchange rate is great now. The staff was very friendly and helpful up there, especially the nice lady at the gun counter who helped me with the rangefinders. I will probably continue to frequent that store, as the one in Victor would take me twice as long to get to from home. I may hit that one, if they build it, on the way to the Adirondacks or 1000 islands however, which we normally visit 5 or 6 times a year. I did check out the one in the Finger Lakes last year on the way to New Jersey and it was ok, but the staff was not as friendly or helpful as they were up in Canada. Don't go there for hackle feathers for fly-tying however, it seems the Jewelers have that market cornered, nothing left for the fisherman in Canada anyhow. Good thing my dad raises chickens and has a couple heads frozen in the freezer for me now.
Doc
I kind of wonder if you might see some of these stores dropping out eventually. It sure seems like they have the market saturated here locally. Can Gander Mountain really survive?

LOL The outdorrsmen population in the Victor/ Rochester area just may be big enough to sustain that many... not sure.

LOL The outdorrsmen population in the Victor/ Rochester area just may be big enough to sustain that many... not sure. There sure are a bunch of us in that area. But I have a feeling that Gander Mountain may be in trouble. They are the worst in the area in terms of what they stock or more importantly, what they don't stock. I don't even go there anymore, especially with the Field & Stream store a stones throw away.

Doc
Doc...You forgot Runnings...they may not be all sports but they have a pretty good hunting area in their store. I have been quite impressed with Runnings. Not necessarily with their pricing, but as far as product selections, they always seem to be reading my mind ..... lol. Their hunting, trapping and fishing selections are not in the same league as Bass Pro and Field and Stream and such, but they do have enough so that anyone who is looking for a certain outdoor item should not fail to at least stop in and check them out. And I should not fail to mention the stuff that I am addicted to ...... their licorice......lol. That's one thing that keeps me walking through their doors a lot!
phade
We won't be getting a Cabelas any time soon with the one in Buffalo. Most of the big box stores are nice to go to, but they've really driven up brick and mortar pricing on items. The same item comparatively is cheaper online when said item is not on a deep clearance or sale, and some of the typical prices are absolutely ridiculous. This applies to GM, BPS, CAB, and F/S. Their big sale times or days is when you can actually make good buys. I got my Marlin 30-30 for $350 on Black Friday at F/S. It was like pulling teeth, but I got it. Everything has its place, however. Especially if you lose something or need something real fast. At that point, premium paid is worth it. I will say this, the stores here in NY, really do pale into comparison to their counterparts in other states. The Auburn BPS is absolutely underwhelming compared to Harrisburg and ones in Virginia and Florida. Cabelas the same...the Buffalo store shouldn't even share the same name when compared to the Hamburg store.

I travel a lot and always hit the BPS and Cabelas and ours are weak sauce. When I was a kid my father took me out to Missouri to the first worlds fishing fair at the original BPS, talk about blown away! That place is Disney world to sportsman
