Tio1
Just purchased new rifled barrel for my 1100 12 ga. Haven't shot slugs for yrs been using MZL. Wondering if anyone using this setup and which sabots are performing best. Tnc Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
grampy
For my old Deerslayer 2, Remington copper sabots in 2 3/4 performed the best. But shoot a few different rounds to see what your gun likes to eat. Have fun and good luck!

Pygmy
I haven't used a shotgun for deer since rifles became legal here in Steuben Co. I bought a fully rifled cantilever barrel for my 12 gauge 1100 years ago when there was not a very wide selection of sabot ammo available, so I have not tried many of the current sabot projectiles.. Of the ammo that I tried, the Win BRI 2 3/4" standard velocity gave by far the best accuracy .. I tried the Remington copper solids and they threw patterns rather than groups in my gun..The higher velocity Winchesters and the Federals gave mediocre accuracy, but the Standard BRI were the best.. They also performed well on game and were the lightest recoil of any slug load I have ever tried.. They were cheaper, too..I don't even know if they still make them... Mr VJP
I love the Lightfield Hybred sabot slugs. I've taken many deer and one 300 pound bear with them. Accuracy is great, but they put game down with one shot, usually within yards of being hit. Even the bear went down in ten yards. Price wise, they are probably the best value for the money and I've never heard anyone say they did not shoot well in their rifled slug gun.

wdswtr
I cant get a lightfield to pattern in my Winchester, Remington or my Mossburg rattle trap. Hornady SST have been the most accurate and pattern really well out of all 3 of my shotguns. I also shoot Hornady SST in all my rifles and absolutely love them. Mr VJP
Which Lightfield slug are you using in them?
jjb4900
Hornady SST or Lightfields............had great experiences with both.
wolc123
I also like the Hornady SST's in 12 ga, 2-3/4". They group very good on the range and perform well inside deer. I am using them in a bolt-action, which is not very "fussy" about brands, shooting decent groups with any I have tried. I have heard stories of folks with cantilever scope mount pumps and autos that do best with a particular brand. You will definitely want to experiment a little and find out what your gun likes best. Larry
I would try the slower velocity slugs first 1700fps or less that barrel has a 1:35 or 1:33 twist rate. That twist rate has a harder time stabilizing the faster slugs. The 1800 to 2000 fps slugs like a 1:28 twist rate that’s not to say that the slower twist won’t stabilize the faster slugs. My gun likes copper solids but there not cheap it will also shoot federals fusion there cheaper.
wdswtr
Which Lightfield slug are you using in them? Hybreds, tried the elits, the express, the mags and the lites. All I did was waste a lot of money lol. But I spent the time and money shooting different sabots to find the one brand for each gun that patterned well. The Hornady SST was top dog in all my guns. Then they opened up rifle at camp so I dont use the shotguns any more. Swtiched to my 30.06 I hunt with at home, which also shoots Hornady SST really well. nobody
Tio, All barrels from the same manufactured model gun you purchased will have a micro-twinge of a difference with where they pattern a slug. I would recommend for you to try different slug types with this new shotgun. Eventually you will find one she really shoots best for you. Being a rifled barrel I would try the remington rifled slug as a starter suggestion. You can work around to other different brands as you go till you find the one that she shoots best. Being in this sport for many a years, I have learned from myself and others complaints on whats wrong with this shotgun or their rifle.. It,s looseing it,s accuracy or does not shoot like she used to.The best tip that I learned from my friend gunsmiths is over time you get lead build up in the rifle lands. Even after you think that barrel you cleaned is clean, well it truly is not. there is always some remaining lead somewhere in the rifleing. what i am saying here is be sure you get the lead out between different slug types you try. good luck tio. philoshop
Lightfield Hybred in the rifled guns, basic Federal punkinballs in the smoothbores. I'm just glad I don't have to put up with that kind of recoil any more. I thought it was fun 30 years ago, but not so much any more.

Before that the only Foster slugs that my smooth bore Winchester and Mossberg liked were Federals.. I took my old Winchester smooth bore out to the range a couple years ago. Iron sights. It was still stacking the old Federal slugs at 50 yds..and I hadn't touched the thing in years….
