I don't go in tge woods without a grunt tube and of I some how forget my grunt tube I'll do a few series of deep burps.

If I see a buck and he's walking away ill try and grunt him back and some times in the middle of a hunt ill give a few series of grunts every 45 minutes or so

I bought a Flextone extractor from Walmart. Has a slider for buck down to fawn. It sounds good based on comparing it to videos on youtube. It also has the snort wheeze tube.

I have no idea what I'm doing with hunting, but on youtube all of these things basically sound the same. I don't get the point of the cans because you need to have multiple ones (although if you turn a bunch over in the store at once it sounds cooL), so an all in one seems like a good idea to me.

I called a couple does to me last year using the "can".  Problem was they circled behind me in the one direction that was not safe to shoot.

It was the first year I tried the "can".

Have antlers from my 2nd buck that I have tried to rattle with, not luck so far with that. Could the method, could be in the wrong spot at the time.  If nothing close enough to hear, it won't work.

I don't take or make calls in the woods. The phone is on vibrate and I rarely check it until I leave the woods most days. This method has not done anything good or bad for my deer hunting. The few times I have called a deer I go straight to voice mail. Ticks me off I tell ya.

Never rattled, and the few times I have used deer calls they didn't work. Most likely operator error. I thought about buying a new grunt call, then decided not too. For me, I don't see the need for it. Many people have success with them and I suggest just learning what works best for how you hunt.

A buddy of mine does a lot of rattling with success and he always preaches that he only rattles when he is hunting in thick areas. That way the buck has to commit all the way to find out what is going on. I will 2nd that, I've done quite a bit of rattling and the only time I have had anything come in was when I was hunting a brushy funnel between open hardwoods.

very light grunts every hour or so during pre-rut. A little more aggressive during the rut. I also use a can and horns. However, I never or rarely call if I have activity. Just if I'm seeing nothing. I will try to grunt a buck in though if he looks like he's heading in the wrong direction as kind of a last ditch option.

I know a lot of guys that call always hunt the same properties. Don't you think the deer get used to hearing the same thing and begin to know what's up?

Yes they can figure you out that's for sure.  Big difference between doing this in a stand vs ground blind or even harder while still hunting.  Sent is the X factor when they go downwind to check you out!   Don't overcall!  Deer are usually subtle unless stressed or chasing during rut.

I usually start off by tickling first for 2-4 times about 3-5 seconds, give it a few min listening for foot steps then if nothing after 10-15 min I will get really loud starting from a slight tickle and progressing fairly quickly.  This requires some branches and leaves to break and really make some noise.  While hitting the horns together I will alternate with snorts, stomping the hell out of my feet or the antlers and brake branches, bushes and grunting, loud breathing included.  Cover like stated is the most important thing!

This is a knock down fight between 2 bucks, if you listen to the sound they make with their feet in the leaves, this is close to what I try to imitate but I also brake branches and sticks if the area has that type of cover.  EX: Use what is in the area.  Dryer the better for making noise. This audio gives a good example of the noise 2 bucks can make besides the antlers.  Love the grunt he does at the 3 minute mark when he almost has his eye poked out, guess he did not like that!

I have learned much from Peter Feduccia the "Deer Dr."  I am by no means an expert but through my experience and from listening to his video's I have been able to "talk" much better to deer and understand more when they respond.

Check him out, pretty cool learning material.  Second video is on rattling!
