Bowhunter Sighting Log

Got my 2016 Bowhunter Sighting Log in the mail today . I think this will make 15 years that I have been doing it . Got a couple of Patches for doing the Survey .

I sent them a request email to sign up, but didn't receive any confirmation that my email was seen by someone on the DEC side.

Does DEC just send the log in the mail, or did you receive a confirmation email?

I have never heard of this. Just looked it up. I could see doing it. Surprised they never mentioned during bowhunter course just as a kind of "hey, also..." thing.

I was going to take part this year and they asked if an app would be easier than a paper log. I said yes,and that was the last I heard from the dec. Maybe there will be something in the mail soon...

I've been doing them for awhile now but don't remember anything about a patch.  Now I have something to look forward to.

I haven't gotten mine yet.  I should be getting it.  I've even had DEC call me up to make sure my info was up to date for it.  Bowhunter log is one of their citizen science things that I plug often.  Although I really hate the assumptions they make with the data  no where to put button buck info and fawn info everything is antlerless.  I understand the reasoning that it's hard to tell the difference between a yearling doe, a fawn, and a BB.  At least give the option for record something more specific if you're sure.

another program they're rolling out is AVID that is more inline with browse surveys.  I don't know how well this will work but I'm excited to see how it goes.  this would provide them real info as to if the deer are too many then the habitat can support.  should be much better info than their extrapolated expected harvest numbers based on people interests and not deer/habitat interests.

The DEC contacted me about 15 years ago and asked if I would be interested in doing the Sighting Log . I thought about it the other day and darned if it wasn't in the mail that day .

I received mine in the mail on Friday. This is the first year I will be participating in the survey. I always keep a log for personal use but this year I m more looking forward to sharing with the state about the low deer population we have that they think is high.

Yesterday when I got home I had a Woodcock survey from the USFWS waiting for me.  That was a new one for me.

I got a Morning Dove survey and tossed it out .

mine just got here day before season.  cutting it close.  can't complain though we got our DMAPs hand delivered.  going on vacation though so it'll have a big old blank spot.

what region are you hunting?  region 1?

Region 3 95% of the time. Rarely do I hunt LI.
