growalot
I told you guys of 2 pit bulls a brown and a white one that chased me down the drive and then circled around the house not letting me out...I called the cops, but they were gone by the time the sheriff arrived...dog warden claimed that the only ones she knew of had never left their home..he got me in the patrol car and we searched the area but couldn't find them...caught one last week but got both on cam this weekend....they run deer all over the hill. growalot
no.. I prefer the owners get a hell of a fine Not the dogs fault any SSS should be some of these owners IMO The big problem is these dogs get into a hunting and sometimes feeding frenzy..the chase...then they come across someones kids in the yard or like me a single person coming across their path and they have become a hunting pair..to this day I have no clue how I out ran them! Other than I was scared crap-less and dang near unable to breath and seeing stars when I got to the house. Steuben Jerry
I'd normally feel the exact way about the dogs. They do only what their trained to do or allowed to get away with. But when I considered the aggressive behavior, chasing you to your house, and then not letting you out, that's the line. They could have mauled a person immediately after giving up the chase on you. Chasing me, on my property? It wouldn't have ended well.
turkeyfeathers
And it's totally not the dogs fault, I get that. But when threatened like you were, you had the legal right to solve that problem then and there. You definitely handled the problem correctly now. But had they chased me, cornered me etc. There wouldn't be need for any emails, posters etc. 1400 fps
growalot
Oh believe me I understand..dang if I haven't had enough trouble with roaming dogs. You'd think I have hang sides of beef the way I have dogs hit this place!...but when one does the SSS they are just leaving the real problem, owners, to go out and get yet another animal to ruin..I want the owners to pay, I want the owners to be looking over their shoulders and I so want the word to get out I'm running a bunch of cams and I have notified the law. I will be their giant PITA if they can't control themselves and their pets.
dbHunterNY
most of the time dogs are running deer with no intent to eat them it's like chasing a car. i'd draw the line at them coming after me, although for liability reasons you'd have to about let them chew on one of your limbs first before you did any harm to them. an argument could be made otherwise. dbHunterNY
fact they're pitbulls doesn't mean anything.... i've dog sat a couple of them. they'd play and it'd make someone cling to the ceiling if they didn't know them. you tell them to stop and they do before the words finish coming out of your mouth. then come over tails wagging. it's horrible how irresponsible some pet owners are whether due to dumb ignorance or ill will. Fletch
I agree the owners need an ass kicking not the dog usually. Take some junky old wood salad bowl and rub bacon all over it and put cams on it where they are roaming your property. Then sue the owners for the $30,000 piece of priceless artwork their dog just chewed up!!

Doc
Yes, it could have been coyotes, but I suspect it was dogs. I've seen it before. This deer was a bit slow to get up. After I shot it and walked up to it, the reason was obvious. What a nasty way to go. One chunk of meat at a time until you finally go down. There was another incident in our front yard one night where two dogs had a severely munched up a deer on the verge of going down until I intervened with my shotgun. I have no idea whether that one survived or not, but the next morning I found blood everywhere. And of course, I have related on here before our experiences of dogs getting into our sheep. We were driven out of the sheep business by dogs, So while people may say "Oh well, dogs will be dogs", and start feeling sorry for the dogs, I have developed a lot different view of wandering uncontrolled dogs.
growalot
So I get an e-mail from the dog warden saying to call so they can give me options... I call and it was...Well when your out driving look for them so we can find the owner...really? ... No ...They'll go to the town clerk to see if any are registered in the area...do that BEFORE YOU CALL ME...WTH! I can shoot if they are ACTIVELY attacking me...well two big pit bulls ..pretty sure that would be too little too late

growalot
No need...poster with : Police & dog warden call. If you own or know who does get them under control. They chased me to my house! Then said where they are running. It's as good as a hit.
grampy
The first time I was chased by dogs on my own land would be the last time. By those dogs anyway. If the butthead owners got more dogs, that did the same thing, they'd join the first ones. No problem, I'll dig the darned holes!
sodfather
I remember my old neighbor when I was a kid says if you ever see a dog chasing a deer you aim for the dog
TreeGuy
Start bringing your gun with you, or keep one close. It's not about just killing a dog, it's about protecting yourself. You already have a documented call to the law, so from here on out they are aware of the problem. What happens if you trip next time ??? We will read about you in the papers and we will all say we were right and you should have " protected " yourself. Forget the owners, forget the animal rights people, protect yourself against them. Don't make this situation a regret that could drastically effect your life and those that love you. G-Man
Unfortunately animals have been disneyafied. I remember my father shooting a dog in deer season chasing a deer. He pick up dog and dropped it at owners house and told them it was chasing deer..that was end if it..now.. I'm sure media and lawsuits would be involved.
