I live right on Oneida and I just don't have the heart to get out there. I fight the winter so much at work I just can't do it. Nice catch, makes me so look forward to spring. Caught a bunch of nice jacks last year and just can't wait. Me and a buddy were talking perch fishing this weekend.

Robhuntandfish
love bringing in Jacks that are as big as the eyes!. We got so we fish for perch and the occasional walleye was a bonus. Plus you can get 50 perch and only three eyes. I cooked up a whole plate of fillets this weekend and with a cold beer thats about as good as it gets.

It is amazing how big these perch get, my buddies from Michigan almost had a stroke the first time they pulled up a 12"+ perch. Robhuntandfish
yes but not in Oneida - pretty sure it was for the allegheny river system, Champlain and Erie. They havent done a Sauger or Saugeye stock in Oneida cause it would interfere with the walleye population. DEC website says only champlain has a population of them. But who knows these days - with the reintroduction of sturgeon (which are doing very well) and the atlantic salmon in the lake i might have missed it. But last i knew Oneida wasnt on the list as an area to introduce them.
chrisw
No Saugers in Oneida Lake, it was a grind today to stay on fish but I love ice fishing and it's a short season so gotta keep plugging away! coonhunter
I'm right there with you on loving ice fishing. My brother and I have had some great luck this year already. Seems nice to have good ice early, and it has stayed so far. For the first time ever on Sunday, my heater wouldn't work because we had a long drag at -1, and the propane bottle got too cold. I had to put it in my coveralls and then shake the hell out of it. Thankfully it fired up and we were able to stay out.
chrisw
Took a couple of newbies out on Oneida today and we put a clinic on walleyes. I myself brought 12 legal Eyes to hand and dropped 3 at the hole including what would have been my personal best Oneida Eye. These are the ice days I live for! Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk Def not a walleye or yellow. But yeah they aren't bad. I run into some decent schools in the spring in the open water and we keep them if they are decent sized. Adds to the freezer and still taste pretty good with tarter! Not bad for fish chowder either.

In the area where I have fished in Maine, they covet the white perch and throw the yellow perch on the ice for the eagles and ravens... Personally, I liked the whites, but prefer the yellows... Personally, I liked the whites, but prefer the yellows... The colder the water the better they are. In the summer they tend to be a bit softer than the yellows. But battered and deep fried it's all a winner.
