Dmp does make a difference when you get your license?

When it comes to odds of getting a dmp in your preferd zone , Just wondering if it makes a difference if you buy your license right away or wait until September or even longer To get a new one  .  Do they do it first come first serve or is it totally random in some way .

I've done it both ways, and have been granted and denied, hard to get 4-H DMPs. We need preference points here, so not sure if it is random or not. But, from what I understand, it is a computer based random selection. If, at the end of the deadline, there are still DMPs in the system they are again, randomly selected and mailed out to those who were denied for that unit. I have gotten these, a few times over the years, after initially being denied. Most times not though.

Its random. Doesnt really matter in my 2 WMUs though, they hand them out to anyone that applies here.

Good question. I'm a land owner so I always get my permit but back in the day when I didn't own land always went the first few days. Don't know if it made a difference.

Yes it’s supposed to be random but I’ve done better when applied early , maybe just got lucky idk.

They compare the amount they want to issue with previous years' applications and that sets the odds for the draw. Say they determine they will issue 2 for every 3 that apply. That holds for the entire lottery period. Once the license period if over they look at the results. If they didn't give out as many as they wanted then they take the ones that didn't get them and do a random draw for the permits that are left. That is whey you could get denied and all of a sudden you get one in the mail later. It has happened to me twice in 7R before it was High/High.

The places I hunt are really consistent,  none for 9P and usually 2 for 9H

You mean I camp out at the town clerk's office overnight on 8/1 every year for nothing?  Wish I had known this sooner.  I did wonder why I was the only one.

Actually the one time I got 2 was late  dont know if that means much
