Local manhunt - What do you defend your home with?

Our neighborhood has a very active fb group that passes info along quickly.  So tonight, the alarm spreads for a large manhunt taking place a few miles away for a spanish looking guy in khaki shorts with a gun.  Apparently, he beat his gf pretty bad and ran.  I could hear sirens and a helicopter not far off, possibly moving our way.

Many of the nervous housewives warned others to stay inside, but my daughter wanted to practice field hockey so I stayed in the driveway to watch her.  She didn't need to know about this nutjob or have it ruin her practice time.  With a G19 under my shirt, a Mossy 12ga staged inside the garage door and long sight lines, I had no qualms about being outside.  No one even noticed until we came inside and I staged the 12ga in a corner of the kitchen.

So if a manhunt goes down near you, what are you grabbing to defend the homestead?  When it comes right down to it, which firearm do you want in your hand if a fugitive approaches or enters your house?

Right now a SW Shield 9mm on top of refrigerator, and a Benelli 12 ga in front closet , 00 in the tube and 3more and two slugs on the stock ,

In your situation, I’d get the Glock 19 out with 15 round mag, that would be on my hip and LCP in back pocket .

Sadly, I am not professional enough to possess a 15 rd mag.  An AR would have been the easy choice over the 12ga inside, but un-SAFE ruined that option too.

I'm not telling anyone what I would use to defend my home or loved ones on a social media site.

The problem with a. 223  in your house is the bullets are going to go through walls  shotgun if you use the right load will not over penetrate nearly as much .  But yea if not for that you are correct

I don't want to side track on an overpenetration debate as the topic has been beat to death all over the webs.  "For me", I shoot and handle an AR best.  If I ever had to take a headshot on a guy holding a gun to my daughter's head, I want an AR in my hand, ideally.

If penetration with 5.56 was that big of a deal, then you wouldn't see SWAT teams using them as their primary on warrant service.  The guy with the sg is only using it to breach a door or (sadly) for dogs.

Maybe but the police have the law on there side if they shoot a bad guy and  the bullet goes through a wall and hits someone it's not going to be a big of a problem as if a civilian has that happen if you no what I mean . The police has the backing of the government.

Practice taking headshots on an obscured target that simulates a bad guy holding a gun or knife to your loved one's head or neck.  Let me know how that works out for you with a sg.  Even with 00 Federal Flite Control I can't keep pellets off my hostage target at 10 yds.  However, I can pound that bad guy's pumpkin every time using an AR with red dot optic.

Well hell then I should just use  my rugger 10/22  with some high  velocity premium ammo in it  if I'm taking head shots  at close range :)
