grampy
7 hours ago, Robhuntandfish said: Hunt #6 10/19. Roadkill stand. Got out after work and got into our close stand that has been getting a ton of does on cam. It just felt like deer were gonna come out at any time. Just after 6pm two does come walking down the trail just like it was scripted. Drew back and shot the second larger one. Complete pass thru. And it went back up the trail it came on. The other one hung out in front of me for 15-20 minutes. Got down after 45 minutes and checked the arrow and it had more guts and liver than I sure wanted to see. Not good in this place it's just so thick and I've lost one to Coyotes before. So snuck out , went home and let the dog out. It has now been 2 hours so gonna just see if any kind of blood trail. Was happy to see a pretty decent blood trail and the deer went right down our mowed trail. So kept on it and about 150 yards there it was right on the edge of the trail. Whew was worried on recovering this one. But haven't lost one since I've used grim reapers they sure do some damage. She must have been quartered more than I thought. Arrow came out way back. But she was down. Gutted, carted out, skinned and quartered and in to cool before midnight. Checked cam card and does all over this spot. Last 3 nights at 6 pm . And also this morn at 9 and again at 2pm. Could just feel I was gonna have some action Tonite. Meat in the freezer, now I can play for a buck! First doe I have ever tagged in this spot. Have tomorrow off to do the butchering. Worked out perfect. Congratulations Rob!! Way to go!! Darn.....I almost picked you for this week too!

Robhuntandfish
It was pretty warm overnight so quartered and cooled everything over night in fridge. Didn't get done til after midnight. But up and at em today. Packaged everything and stocked the freezer. Steaks, stew, roasts, couple of cubed steaks and 35 grown man sized venison bacon burgers! Got all my hunting gear reset and ready. Will have Fri Eve thru Tues to play for a buck now.
Robhuntandfish
Hunt #7 3:30-dark. Littlefield stand. Didn't see anything. Food plot looks chewed down pretty good. Got busted by a big body deer that was standing right in front of the groundblind I almost hunted Tonite and should have I guess. Had to be a buck. Will pull cam tomorrow and see if he went by it there. Got busted and he blew and took off in brush. Wrong choice tonight. Corey was in roadkill and saw nothing. Robhuntandfish
Pulled cards from 3 cams and not a single buck. Least bucks on cam we have ever had for sure. Will be in a usual buck spot tomorrow and pull cams out there and see if anything going on.
Robhuntandfish
Hunt #8 dark -10:15. Scrapetree stand. Saw 2 Fisher in the trail. Never seen 2 at a time before. Corey had 3 doe behind him at wayback but they never got in range. Pulled 6 cam cards. Lots of doe pics. Only one buck pic last night 5 pointer. But at least we got a buck and it is at my usual minimum line to shoot. Where we frost seeded clover at scrapetree it sure took!
Robhuntandfish
Hunt #9. 3:30-dark. CSS stand. Pulled cam there and not a single buck in a month. Have never seen a year like this for lack of bucks, yet a good amount of does. It's odd. Had a tiny doe in front of me at 4 yards. Then a huge doe step out about 55 yards just before dark and never got closer. At least some action. Corey was in pine and didn't see anything. Robhuntandfish
Hunt #11. Point stand. 3:30-dark. Dead calm most of the afternoon. Only saw a fisher in the trail. But did see some buck sign finally. A couple of rubs right next to each other about 80 yards from where I got the buck pics of a 5 pt. Corey was in roadkill and didn't see anything either. Last season this stand had a lot of buck pics. So hoping it pics up here.

Robhuntandfish
Hunt #12. After work til dark. Groundblind. Got in and just as it was getting the golden hour three shots at neighbors 250 yards away. Figured that was it for the night. Waited til almost dark then stood up in blind and started packing up. Get pack half on and a head sticks out down the trail. Doe and two fawns come trotting out. I try to sit back down and doe caught my movement. She blows and runs about 15 yards. And then paces and stomps for a bit. They they go back into the woods and I scooted out of there. Even if I was ready she wouldve got a pass. At least some action. Robhuntandfish
Hunt #13. Dark -10:20. Scrapetree stand. Passed on a lone doe about 9:15 at 34 yards.(first pic by brush) Planning on hunting this spot with the East wind for next two days. She barely made it thru today without sending one. But trying to hold out for a buck as this spot is historically an active buck spot. Although to date no buck pics. Til I pulled the cam from the last week and now I really have some incentive. Pics of a nice buck there on the 23rd checking out my scrape and dripper and also yesterday on another cam, just to the other side of me. Hopefully he will be a player with some does around. But def got me excited to see a good buck. Also a big bodied 3pt around. Will be out there next two days . Doe will get a pass still...I think. Lol .

Robhuntandfish
Hunt #14. 3:00-dark. Scrapetree. Didn't take a shot but what a great night of hunting. Heard a grunt about 1/2 hour after I got into stand. Then all quiet til about 5:45. Looking way down the trail and I think I see a deer thru the brush. Yup it moves and I can see a big deer with a wide white rack. Big buck about 125+ yards. Looks like he is eating. He lingers in same spot for a while. And dark is coming in 1/2 hour, so I try 5-6 grunts. Wind is blowing at me and I don't think he could really hear it well. A couple of minutes later I hear steps in the brush across from me. Out steps a doe on my right across the trail. Looks like the same one from this morning. She is looking down the trail where the buck was. I can't see him anymore where I am thru the brush. I now am in between a doe and a buck. I'm thinking to myself....look this way dummy! Was expecting him to come trotting down the trail at any minute. She looks some more then starts eating clover and walking around by me. Got to within 10 yards. She then goes in the woods to my right. Didn't see the buck again and it is dark. So I gotta sneak out of there. I get down and I can hear her in the woods to my right crunching some brush. She was prob still close and I bumped her. What a great night in the stand. It has to be that 8 I have pics of. If not there is another nice one about. But I should have good pics of it cause I have a stand and a camera there too. But if I was in that stand Tonite that buck would have been in range but also right in my wind. Although the doe was and never knew I was there. Gonna try to sneak back in there tomorrow. Second pic - doe at 15 yards. She is tempting fate. Not gonna pass too many times. Edited October 28, 2021 by Robhuntandfish

When gun comes it's almost a let down. Sounds like you had a good afternoon yesterday too!
Robhuntandfish
Hunt #15 dark - 10:15. Scrapetree Wind is still east so this stand is the place to be. Didnt see anything except two raccoons. Prob pairing up looking for the arc as we are supposed get another 1.5" of rain tonite.
Robhuntandfish
Hunt #16 3:15-dark. Groundblind Started off in scrapetree but it was too windy to be in that tree. Moved to groundblind. Didn't see anything. Pulled cam card but something not working with cam , not a single pic. Disappointing for sure.
Robhuntandfish
Hunt #17. Scrapetree . 3-dark. Didnt go this am in rain and 20 mph winds. But hit the afternoon. Felt deery for sure. Had two big does cross the trail at 70 yards (in pic little hole up the trail) Then one right in from of Roadkill stand on the way out. Too dark to tell if buck or doe had to wait 10 minutes for it to clear the field before I went thru. Pulled cam card at scrapetree where I've been getting pics of the 8 and where I saw him 2 nights ago at 125 yards. We are def playing cat and mouse. He likes my scrape and dripper I have there. Visited it twice the other night. Only have tomorrow to hunt and wind is moving to the west so gonna have to change stands a couple hundred yards away.
Robhuntandfish
Hunt #18 point stand light -10;15. Long walk all around the property to get to this stand in the right wind. And got that feeling like I shouldn't be here in this bucks living room. Got to end of the trail looking back towards where I was sitting yesterday and there is a big deer at 250y. I have 30 yards to go to get to stand so have to wait there til he moves a bit. Glasses are fogged over. So finally looks like he has head in brush and make my move and get in the stand. But looks like he was working his way the other way down the trail of course. This buck is now known as "Check Buck" . He earned a name. Seems like I am one move away from getting a shot at him all the time. If I had been in the other stand my wind would have been all over him and prob would've busted me coming in. Pulled 3 cam cards and this buck is on all of them. He is everywhere. Also looks like a other smaller 8 and the 5 I also have had a picture of. Things are looking up. New rubs and scrapes all around. Got Thurs-sunday off next week and cooler temps, less rain and xbow opener hopefully turn into a buck down. Also saw a pheasant on the way out.
