11/24/19: dad didn’t hunt. I hunted the final 2 hours in heavy wind/rain. Walked 2.6 miles but no deer seen. The high rack buck my dad seen twice during gun season is still around as of 2 nights ago. Hopefully he or I get a shot at him

11/2: hunted with xbow with dad on his land. 29 degrees and barely any wind. Sent him to lower end of property and I went to the acorn flat blind. Cam showed a 8pt on 10/30 and a spike with a 4pt. I g

11/25/19: while I was at work dad hunted.

He seen 5 deer together at 9:45am. Looked like a few ran down towards the stream about 125 plus yds. The closest one was about 75 yards and was a 3 pt. that He has seen before. He could only see one other deer now which was about 130 yards away. He could see he had antlers and was a shooter. He watched him for about 5 minutes and tried soft grunted and after that the bleat called, but the buck wasn't moving much but then just before 10am he started walking fast heading towards the stream. When the buck came through a little opening angling away Dad shot at his left side at 125yds on the move with his shotgun. He aimed high and knew He hit him because he dropped right down. Bur he kept trying to get up. He watched him for a few minutes and watched the 3 pointer start walking down towards him. He then decided to sneak down keeping trees blocking him. When He got to about 30 yards the buck was in a kneeling position but not looking at my dad so He shot him again in the left shoulder. He than dropped for good. Right after the shot Dad noticed about 30 yards three other deer took off heading away further but couldn’t see heads. Buck weighed 138lbs dressed at the butcher. A woman DEC biologist was there and they were taking the head/brain to Albany to check for CWD. She told my dad it was a 2.5 year old, which seems right. Dad only has a flip phone so these are the only pics I have for now until I see him in person with his digital camera. Another buck we did NOT have pics of. When dad told me he shot a buck I thought it was the high rack buck we have pics lately but it’s not so hopefully I’ll get a crack at him.

Atta boy pops! Cant wait to shake his hand at the next GTG!
Pretty sure DEC just camps out at Amatos for the duration of the season. My buddy brought that busted up buck to confirm that puss from his head wasn’t a problem with the meat and DEC was there(confirmed all good!)

Yup, they always seem to be there. But shockingly they weren’t when I got my buck on 11/2

11/28/19: I hunted the morning until 10:15am and saw nothing. Cams didn’t show much either. Just a few does this week.

But on a positive note, I found my xbow bolt from 8pt on 11/2. Right in line with my shot. 43 yards from blind. So 24yds past the deer. I like to keep them and write date and info on the fletching.

Been a while with no updates. My dad had to have hernia surgery, so he didn’t hunt the late season for a chance at a 2nd buck.

I had a wedding last weekend, so couldn’t hunt. But my return is tomorrow (12/16). Should be cold and not too windy. Taking the Mathews instead of xbow.

Yea I’m gonna dad’s land tomorrow for final day. Then next 2 weekends hit some Stateland in 3S (westchester) before it ends 12/31

12/16: hunted 3N dark to dark, saw zero Deer. Checked cams midday and got a nice group of 1.5 bucks that seem to have made it through the season. One of the 4 cams is way off with date/time. All pics are past 2 weeks.

The doe with 3 fawns are on cam several days on several cams. They were a group of five when I saw them in person to weeks ago so I’m thinking one of the does got shot and now it’s a group of four

12/26: hunted 3S Stateland with bow. Still hunted around for 2.5 hours this afternoon. Came across 5 new treestands that weren’t there in October. Can only imagine how many more were there in November and taken down. Each one had scent wicks and cans nearby. 3 of them were low 6-7 foot ladder stands.

Saw 19 turkeys and 1 deer. Looked small about 50-60 yards away. It two hopped over a ridge and I had good wind and snuck around but couldn’t find it again. Also found a dead head spike.

I hate when people leave shit in the woods especially shit that is used for hunting.
Do people need to put their names on stands? All locked?

Some were locked, some weren’t. 1 had a name “Tuttle” on it
