NYBuckHunter27
Yep, I do the same with my Muddy stand that levels. I would rather buy stands that level anymore. Its just so much more versitile. Cant wait to try these out, with no side cables to get in the way. Might have to order more of them. Did you receive the stand yet? how was the quality and function? i see some so-so reviews on there.
WNYBuckHunter
Wow ! You couldn't get me 25 feet up in a tree . Good luck ! I usually keep them around 16, but Ill get up there for a chance at this area. Gonna be nerve racking, but a safety line will be there. WNYBuckHunter
Did you receive the stand yet? how was the quality and function? i see some so-so reviews on there. Ive seen them at Field & Stream. They seem to be nice. I just ordered them yesterday, probably be in next week. I looked over reviews on a few sites and only found the one bad one about the adjustment bar getting rusty. If thats the biggest issue with it, Im not worried in the least. moog5050
I like that its a bar vs. cables. At least you see if its really getting bad. I hate stepping on the older hangons with cables.

WNYBuckHunter
Had a really good weekend at one of the farms. Our QDMA branch field day was held there this year. Friday I took a half day to get all of the mowing done and move the tractors and equipment to the demo plot area. My buudy and I finished up prepping the plots and the sky was so clear I hung out for a while checking out the stars. Saturday morning I was down there early meeting up with the branch volunteers and getting tents and everything setup. The day went off without a hitch, weather was perfect and the speakers and subjects were very good. After everyone left, and we packed everything up, my buddy and I went back to the plots and finished them up. Both were planted in Winter Rye. One plot we worked with the tiller, cultipacked, seeded and then rolled with a flat roller. The second plot was done with a 10 foot tow behind disc and the cultipacker. We just wanted to compare which way works better, as we are looking at expanding these two smaller plots into a pretty large, 3 to 4 acre plot next year. The tiller is on the small side and it would take a long time to work a plot that large. My buddy is actually thinking he should sell it and buy a larger one. By the end of the day, the plots were done, so food plotting for us this year is finished unless we have a failure on one of our brassica plots, and it needs to get disced and planted with Winter Rye. I will post some pics of everything later.

dbHunterNY
looks like it was a good turn out. great Dougherty was there. tillers seem to take a while but if you hit the sod with heavy discs then use a tiller it goes quicker. still a long time with a 4' tiller though. you could run an 8' tiller on 50+HP. it's probably around $5k though. more likely to find a 7'. I only get into sub-acre plots with anything else being ag fields. so a 4' tiller is fine for me. discs aren't practical then. looks like it was a good turn out. wish we could've made it but long drive, too many out of town, and too much going on. WNYBuckHunter
It was a good turn out. He isnt looking at an 8 footer, probably a 6 or 7. We will most likely only do the large plots with the tiller every other year or maybe every 3rd year, and use the disc in between. The small plots are quick to do with the tiller once they have been worked for a couple of years.
WNYBuckHunter
I headed down to the farms to swap out trail cam cards last night. I got some pretty good videos and pics. I also got some good pics of the plots, which are doing well. First, here is our plot planted with DeerAg Double Beam Brassica mix... Next, here is the plot I put a generic Rape, PTT, Sugar Beet mix in with fertilizer... Last, here is the plot I put the same generic Rape, PTT mix in (minus the Sugar Beets) without fertilizer... I put the two plots in, one with and one without fertilizer, to show my buddy that we should be using fertilizer, and exactly what the benefit is. He just doesnt like using fertilizer for whatever reason. Here are a couple of pics of a 2 year old buck I have named Yardstick. I really really want to see him make it, he has such great potential to be a really nice, wide buck similar to the one I used to call Hayrake.
wooly
That's a really nice buck you hope to see make it through another season. I've seen a few like that, (boarderline) and unfortunately sometimes they step out and force you to make the decision for yourself in a matter of seconds. Some days they get to walk, and you feel good about it, only to kill them a few days older no matter how you felt about them in the first place. He could be a cranker next year, or he may not improve much at all... which is what bucks around here have a tendency of doing. I know, that you already know they don't ALL explode by giving them "another year or two", but I'd probably give that guy a pass this year too. Lookin' good though!
WNYBuckHunter
After I got home last night I decided to get a little practice in with my bow. It started getting dark, so I set my phone up and took a couple of videos of the lighted knocks. dbHunterNY
it's a nice young buck. plots look good too. Having a free Aging On The Hoof event with local bucks September 19th. Open to the public so I hope the auditorium it will be in gets filled. Many in the immediate area haven't even seen a 3.5+ year old buck. When they see what even local bucks can do at 4.5+ yrs old their minds will be blown. haha
WNYBuckHunter
Spent the last couple of days at my daughter's bow hunters safety course. She scored a 98 on the test. Best grade in the class of 55 people. Shes very happy about that, and Im pretty proud. Her gun course is in 2 or 3 weeks.

dbHunterNY
requiring membership to attend? many educational field days hosted by our QDMA branch require QDMA membership. this is hosted by our co-op with use of the local school property, so it's free to the public. there's 750 seats in the auditorium so we've got room. hoping most of the hunters who hunt on a property of the co-op will attend and learn. one of the more experienced QDMA board members among us will be giving the presentation. the school superintendent and other staff has been great so far by letting us use their facility to promoting deer management. many including the superintendent hunt and seem to be excited.
