chrisw
I love fishing buck pond and under the trussle into rainbow lake. Buck pond for pike and bullhead and rainbow lake for walleye. Did you grow up up here?No I didn't but we used to camp at Buck pond every summer for 10 days. I've probably rowed around the pond 1,000 times fishing when I was younger. I've caught some nice largies and pike too. I still remember using an orange jointed floating rapala next to that culvert between buck pond and the lake side and hooking what was the biggest largemouth I had ever seen at the time and it pulled my jointed rapala in half. First place I'd really seen a glimpse of northern lights also... Sent from my moto g fast using Tapatalk

wolc123
I think I will give the turkeys one last try tomorrow morning. I think I heard a gobble behind the in-laws house, around 5:30 am. My arms are sore from "perch" fishing today. 40 some smallmouth and not one perch. Our daughters got in on the action this afternoon: Edited May 30, 2021 by wolc123

WNYBuckHunter
Fished Henderson Harbor today with my buddy to start scoping things out for our 2 day tournament in July. We got some pretty good intel and hooked some good ones. I’d like to make one more trip up before the tournament to check some other areas out. Good day overall.

See if you can find online the major league fishing tournament there last year . They crushed them on drop shots. Hope tourney day isn't a windy one.

wolc123
I gave the turkeys 5 minutes this morning. I walked 100 yards behind the house and blew a crow call a few times. I didn't hear a gobble, so I went out on the lake. No perch bite again this morning and not as many bass, maybe 7 so far. The last one was my longest of the holiday weekend (18"). I pinched the barb on the 1/8 oz jig to make it easier to release them unharmed. None have thrown the hook since I did that.

Northern pike do a little better, largemouth bass quite a bit better. Smallmouth bass seem to live the longest in there, as the water gets warm, and the oxygen gets depleted. I usually toss a bag or two of ice in the livewell, if I have a long drive home. As soon as I get home, I put a garden hose in there. The cool water usually revives them, if they are starting to belly up. Bass are my favorite fish to catch and eat. They taste much better if the fillets are still twitching when you remove them. That don't happen if you put them in a cooler. That is why most folks dont care for eating bass. Edited May 31, 2021 by wolc123

All these were still flopping before I cleaned them. I've eaten all kinds of fish and bass are ok, have had them as a shore lunch many times, no fresher than that. They are good but perch and walleye are my choice.

chrisw
There ya go! It's almost a bummer when you get them that quick..almost. lolI know! I had 2 within 20 minutes and was almost hoping the third would take longer. Then I reeled in and stood there in the boat asking myself "what now?" I just headed out, home by 9. My DEC buddy was out yesterday and wrote several tickets for over the limit. I can see how people push their luck when the fishing is hot.
