Thompson Center 54 inline ?? Is this an oddball

Boss has a camo inline 54 cal ,

is ammo hard to come by ? I’ve never seen one before

I see tons of ML ammo on the shelves .. 45 and 50 

I don’t see ANY 54 

Thats why I wonder if it’s an odd ball

I have a tc renegade in .54 cal. It’s becoming my favorite shooting gun lately. You can get round balls for it anywhere that sells muzzle loader stuff. If you want conicals look up “no excuses” they really pack a punch.

My dad has a side lock Thompson Center .54. It packs a punch, before all the nonsense projectiles were easy to come by for the .54. Now its all hard to find.

Then match the bullet to proper .54 sabot . Nice 1/38 twist in a fire hawk

.54 is fairly common, I know a few guys who use .54 Renegades. I checked, and it didn't look like Track of the Wolf had much other than round balls, but October Country has a few options for projectiles. I'm sure you'll find plenty of options. Good luck with it if you end up with it (I don't know if that's the goal or not).

Really the 1:38 is supreme with a conical. As mentioned you can get 1:38 to shoot other projectiles well.

.54 is much more common in sidelocks than in inlines. When inlines first came out both .50 and .54s were common, but overtime .50 inlines have become more prevalent. You still should not have any problem finding sabots/ etc. for a .54

I have a couple of 45 cal sidelocks that have presented problems obtaining projectiles in recent years, almost everything is geared toward 50 cal these days. The problem was easily solved by purchasing a bullet mold and casting bullets myself and not for a lot of money.  Not hard to master at all, just do it in a well ventilated area. Lead is pretty easy to find and purchase.

Easy to get ammo, many people look for that gun. I love my 54

The .54 caliber ML is popular out west for hunting big game like Elk.

The .54 was alot more popular before inlines came out, but at least I think in the east .50s inline have become a bit of the standard.
