My buddy picked up a bow 2 weeks ago and I think he will be ready for this season. Some people have a good form to shoot while others take more time to get good. A bow is a weapon of skill IMO. Some can be good with a few lessons and practice while others take months to be ready. In so far as a year to get ready, that is more than enough time to get good with form and fix any issues. I have my buddy hitting the target well out to 50 yards, he actually shoots better at long distance... 20-30 yards is not that hard to get good at in a short time IF you practice and have good physical ability... Remember the bow you use now is probably two to three times faster than what you used as a kid and makes shooting further easy. (10- 30 yards has a very slight drop) Your old bow might not be as easy to shoot as the new bows. I sudgest getting a bow now, use it, if you can hit a small CD or a little larger than a half dollar out to 30 yards go for it this year... If you are not comfortable with a shot dont take it. Just because you can not shoot out past 30 yards is no reason not to hunt, IMO... Get out and have fun, who knows what next year might bring!!! If you could see how bad some of the guys shoot with thier traditional bows at 10-30 yards you would have no problem using a compound at that distance if you get good with it... Granted with use you get better and fix form issues but how many people do not shoot all year and then a week or two before bow they shoot 10 arrows and say they are good to go. I am not saying you have to be a expert but just because you are not is no reason not to hunt. Most deer are taken within 30 yards with a bow and I see no reason why you can not be good enough to do that in a month IF you practice. And if you are not ready you can always wait till next year... Use at most 3 pins when starting, I recommend one for 20 and one for 30 to start. 10 is just not needed as it is only about a inch lower than the 20 depending on speed... You do not have to be a expert to shoot good, just consistant!!! Go for it you live only once!!! Again if you feel you are not ready you can always wait untile next year... Make sure the bow is set up for you, like many have said it is very importiant!!!1 point

Well I have a week in the ADK to start off with. Sep 27th to Oct 2nd. I will be in the woods most of the day for six days. 3 day back pack in to do some scouting/hunting back a mile or two. At that point I will be hunting Dark to dusk... Plenty of time to NOT hunt when I am at home but when I am in near or by the woods, I want to be in them, could care less if they are moving or not I will be chasing!!! Or at least trying to find some good doe to patern for rifle season... Hopefully I can find some large tracks to chase... As long as I am in the woods, I am having fun!!!1 point

Back to the first buck- I counted 15-16 points. He doesn't even look all that old- maybe 4? Hujungus! The 2nd buck is a hard sell at 155 and @ 2 yrs old. I'd say 3 yrs old and 140 is more like it.1 point

I would agree for the most part...3d comp are great practice too. Another thing I forgot to add.... I now like to practice at 50 yds most of the time . after getting proficient at this it has greatly increased my confidence at hunting ranges. A 20 yd shot seems like a chip shot now..1 point

What the hell is wrong with some of you freaking wimps on here? Do you want us to hold hands and politely tell all law breakers the rules and then give them a hug at the end so every thing is all right? Its been covered here countless times, if you are dumb enough to put a picture of an illegal act on the internet you had better be prepared to recieve the blow back. And laws are pretty black and white on this topic, should be no confusion.1 point

Hard to believe we see thread after thread on here bitching about thing like trespassing, poaching and such and everyone is crazy fired up on these violations but not baiting. Must be way more wide spread than I thought.. We should be policing our own ranks and calling people on the carpet for operating outside the regulations. If you have a probblem with policing our own you ARE part of the problem.1 point

So the guys have covered the basics and I'll add this....I see a family in your avitar....I know many gun hunters that for God only knows...think it's OK to go up a tree with a gun and no harness...If you happen to be...not saying you are...but if...learn to use your harness...because as foolish as it is to go up high during gun without a safety harness ...it is roulette to do so with a bow ...ppl love and need you play it safe...Other than that..practice from a tree if you hunt from the trees...You'll never understand why you didn't do it sooner once you start shooting bow...have fun and Good Luck1 point

That's what I was thinking.... Lol I think I should be the spokes person for schwackers, "hi this is Doewhacker and I endorse the Schwacker". As long as I don't have to use them that is..hehe. I'm sure they kill deer just as dead as any other bh.1 point

I started yelling at the girl at the counter. Telling her how worthless she was which is why she'll never amount to anything more than a Gander Mountain cashier. I then grab the rack of Jack Link's beef jerkys and threw it out out the front window. I then proceeded to urinate all over the stacks of 2012 Hunter's Regulation Manuals. Just kidding. I said "Arrr..schucks!" and "Oh wellz", thanked the girl, took my tags, and left.1 point

Actually, I prefer to report via internet. There is no hassle of dealing with voice recognition, and when you are all done, you can print out exactly what was reported. You can always review items on your report before pushing the send button. Also, even though it is unlikely, If someone tries to come back and claim that I didn't report or reported fraudulently, I have a hardcopy print-out to show exactly what was reported and how. I love the system!1 point

I made 2 mock scrapes last yr I from personal experience (learned) that cams near scrapes does affect the bigger mature bucks. So I make 2 mock scrapes using code blue scrape paks, the 30 day ones but I also re- freshen with golden estrus starting late oct or early nov about when i see bucks following or chasing doe's I usaully run them in line with a natural scrape line (community) scrape line a mature bucks always looking for a fight from a new buck in the territory.I also use a buck urine very sparingly.in my scrapes. Look at my pics most of my kills are because they got fooled. But depending on time on stand and how nocturnal your older bucks are the real action and best time to harvest a mature dominate buck is at peek rut or later in the season 27 days after the peek rut ends the false or late rut kicks in.my 3 biggest bucks were taken at this time.Less pressure, more day time movement,oh and they will hit late food sources more simply because they know theres less does that need to be bred. I hope i helped but if you need to use cams use them more as a scouting tool not a following tool.Your biggest advantage is more time afield and knowing your hunting land, pressure, food sources, water sources and most of all your doe movements. They will lead you to the big boys everytime.1 point

Anyone else getting this email? Darn thing is going viral! Received it several times. Kind of funny! JOHN HINKLEY'S RELEASE Nancy Reagan regarding John Hinckley 's release: We could all learn so much from this elegant and gracious lady. You might recall that John Hinckley was a seriously deranged young man who shot President Reagan in the early 1980's. Hinckley was absolutely obsessed with movie star Jodie Foster , and, in his twisted mind, loved Jodie to the point that to make himself well known to her, he attempted to assassinate President Reagan. There is speculation Hinckley may soon be released as having been rehabilitated. Consequently, you will appreciate the following letter from Nancy Reagan to John Hinckley: To: John Hinckley From: Mrs. Nancy Reagan My family and I wanted to drop you a short note to tell you how pleased we are with the great strides you are making in your recovery. In our country's spirit of understanding and forgiveness, we want you to know that we bear no grudge against you for shooting Ronnie. We are fully aware that mental stress and pain could have driven you to such an act of desperation. We're confident that you will soon make a complete recovery and return to your family to join the world again as a healthy and productive man. Best wishes, Nancy Reagan & Family P.S. While you have been incarcerated, Barack Obama has been banging Jodie Foster like a screen door in a tornado. You might want to look into that.1 point

Anybody else see how all of Obama's records are sealed. They can't even confirm that he has a legal Usa birth certificate. They put out a 1-800 number for everyone to call. Just wondering if anyone has saw this and whats there thoughts?1 point

I know you've done enough of these where you know what your doing but a couple small things came to mind while you described your problem. Chicory is such a small seed that any time i'm using a tiller, i always make sure i cultipack or roll the soil before broadcasting. The tiller fluffs the soil so much that even a moderately heavy rain can drive those seeds so deep that they wont germinate. Roll- seed-rollagain usually works best and gives you all the seed contact you need. I don't believe that has anything to do with this particular problem though because you said the plot did fine up to a point and then died off. Chicory likes heavy soil so maybe that loogging road is too well drained for that planting.?? Chicory also likes alot of sun and in my experience clover will tolorate a bit less sun so maybe like growalot stated, it maybe just isn't getting enough to survive. It's too bad though. I've been frustrated by plantings myself in the past and it can tick you off. Chicory is surprising though. It is usually pretty reliable.1 point
