  1. Well I was up north for the Deer regular season opener. We knew there had been a ton of bear sign from the previous weekend of Muzzle loading. It was a very quite Saturday opener. not much shooting around the area. we set up a drive for the one big swamp one the property that is adjacent to a corn field on the next property. My cousin and I were drivers. Well I saw this fella running around the outside of the drive about 20% through the drive. I had no idea they could run that fast...not quite as fast as the handloads for my -06 (first ime I was able to try them on game). well if they are right about the % to add to get live weight, the live weight would have been around 240-250 young male. Not a monster and not much meat off a bear either but It has been 100% corn fed based on the large crop circles in the middle of the corn field. I am giving the hide to a taxidermist I use, Hope to get a discount on the next deer mount. (no way the wife would go for another bear mount and I have a Daughter that is headed to college...LOL)

  3. Dakota Dog, "And our one hour of driving is not 4 city block neither it is 40 - 55 miles woundering if a deer will run out if front of your truck. " Yeh this always cracks me up when I hear the talking heads on tv business shows on the weekends saying it doesn't matter, and people don't care if gas goes to 5 dollars a gallon. Their reasoning is: "well in Europe it has been 5 dollars a gallon for years". Hey news flash you jerks, in Europe you drive a couple hours in any direction you end up in another country. Here we drive two hours and get to Walmart! Theres nothing worse than a bunch of NYC business people/tv celebrities who have no clue what it is like to live in "real upstate" dictating how we should live or how much we should pay to survive. I'm all for as many from NYC as possible moving up here so we may eventually have enough swing in population that we might even realize what it is to have a vote that counts. This state is the classic example of the tail wagging the dog. On the other hand, I have heard all the wise cracks about "the guys from the city coming up here" and doing all kinds of stupid things like shooting cows, goats and each other, and can tell you some of the best guys I ever met were from "downstate". The issues I've had over the years have been with local people, not hunters from "the city". The best neighbor I could ask for for the past 15 years is from NYC. He is a real quality guy and I wish all my neighbors were like him.

  4. For crying out loud, do we really need to argue about what to call a fox?

  5. Of course some things may change the circumstances. Nobody has said any differently. Nothing you have stated changes the FACT that a loaded gun after dark is not illegal, you need other extenuating circumstances for it to be an offense. I am at a total loss as to what your point has been this whole time lol.

  8. Looks like a picture from the presidential election...

  9. No, the only choice in this election is which candidate we think stinks less. That's about it. The people who want to work WILL work no matter who the president is. Those who get handouts will continue to get them. Not like any republican president has ever gotten rid of welfare and neither would Romney.

  10. You guys saying Trump isnt smart are just plain wrong. Before today, whens the last time you talked about him? I know I havent thought about him since the last round of birther talk he was involved in. Trump knows how to stir up some publicity.

  11. If Obama has nothing to hide, why not respond to the offer. It would cause Trump to part with $5 Million of his dough and Obama could direct it to a charity of his choice. Sounds like a win-win.... UNLESS there is something damaging there.
    1 point
  12. Man, this is funny. Trump is simply trying to stir up $#!+ that honestly most people don't care about. He knows that Obama will never release these records, thus he is trying to look like he is such a generous person by offering money to charity. If he had the slightest reason to think that Obama might actually release these records he sure as hell wouldn't be offering it, I can assure everyone of that. Nothing but a publicity stunt, by someone who can't get enough. What he doesn't realize is what an a$$ he makes of himself in the process.

  14. Not waiting at red light isn't corruption. I'm a city cop and I almost never wait at red light. The only time I ever get in the car is because I'm on a task that requires me to be prompt. We have things called radio runs, thats when "you" call the police and we have to investigate. Now if you call the police and you want us waiting at every red light to get there just inform 911 that when you call and we will take our sweet time. The jobs also get picked up in order so If you have 12 calls in an hour do you think the cops are driving around in city traffic and getting to you if they obey the same traffic laws you do. If its an emergency I would be using lights and sirens. You also have to remember that when you see a cop speeding lights flashing and all of a sudden he stops and starts driving normal you as a civilian may think he just didn't want to wait in traffic when the truth is a job came over and the police are rushing there but other units got there first and called no further. There always 2 sides to every story but as a civilian looking the assumptions are often incorrect. I'm not going to stand on a pedestal and swear that every officer in the world is doing the right thing because there are a$$hol;es in every job. I'm sure you have a few where you work but don't paint us with broad paint brush. I wouldn't go around saying all hunters are corrupt because I read a few stories every year.

  18. Troopers use black Chevy Tahoes, and some have a thin LED light bar at the top of the windshield, inside so its not clearly visible. Ive been seeing more of them around, completely unmarked.

  19. Back on topic......... I killed a doe yesterday. 15 yards, coming to grab one of the last apples on the ground from the tree. East wind dictated using one of my favorite stands. East wind and a little drizzle.........works almost every time! Spent a few hours taking care of business due to the warm temps. Hang, skin, run to town for a couple bags of frozen water, quarter, bone, bag (2.5gal ZipLocks) put on ice in cooler, clean up, wash up, change, drop off hide at friends, dispose of parts, beat feet for home.

  27. I will never tag the deer until it gets to the means of transportation..ie truck. I have lost tags ZIP TIED to the deer on multiple occassions. It is not required you attach the tag while dragging. Dragging solo sucks. If you have a truck, there are a few methods you can use to get it up there. The best in my opinion, is to get a piece of 3/8 or 1/2 plywood sheet and cut it down so it'll fit in the bed of your pick up flat (varies based on bed size and style). With the deer at your truck, open bed and pull sheet out like a ramp. Pull deer to edge of plywood and tie off with your rope to the truck rail. Pull it up the ramp a bit. Once you get the head up to the top of the plywood/bed, retighten it down. The jump down, go to the bottom of the plywood and you can lift and then slide the plywood in easy, with the deer on top of it. This works great for larger bucks because you are using leverage. Other option is to tie the buck up to the tree, use the truck to lift him up and tie the rope to the tree...back truck under buck, and lower. Or, back truck to the bottom of a ditch/hillside and slide the deer down into the bed.

  29. If you make your way to Putnam I'll take you out small game hunting and point something things to help get you started. 1.)I recommend buying a drop point knife with about a 3.5 inch blade for when you get your deer (No Rambo knife needed). 2.)Throw some zipstrips or safety pins in your back tag for the ear tags. Always bring a flash light. 3.)Throw some pine needles and dirt in a rubbermade tote and a piece of peg board over and throw your cloths on top of it(scent matters) 4.)After the first day the deer that are smart are hiding in the thick stuff 5.)Utilize small game season to get scouting in and to get familiar with the woods 6.)Ignore the (facts) on tv hunting shows they are fake and meeant to sell products!!! 7.)Any more tips from me you better be serving cold ones!!!
