Shooting BBs isnt going to effect genetics. QDM is fine and dandy if you can control the hunters/access, to the land, but its completely unrealistic for public land, etc. I am all for voluntary QDM. I guess my issue with what you said lies more with you saying that any experienced hunter that cant tell the difference is sad or has a problem. There are plenty of hunters out there with plenty of experience that shoot BBs, so now you are ostracizing them for it. Like Ive said before, that attitude does our sport no good. For example, a friend of mine shot a spike this year, and all I said to him was congrats, great job! I wouldnt have shot that spike, its not up to my personal standards. Doesnt mean I should judge him for it or tell him he shouldnt be proud of it. There have been a couple of guys on the farm I normally hunt that have shot little basket racked bucks so far this year. Good for them, and congrats! Im after something bigger, but thats my choice, and I will never try to force that upon anyone in any way.3 points

It's amazing....they can hear a pin drop in the woods, detect the slightest movement and leap a 6 foot fence with no problem........yet they can't get out of the way of a truck roaring down the road.3 points

Well, since it was raining yesterday evening, I decided to take the night off from bowhunting to go after some turkeys that I'd been seeing. I hadn't been set-up for 5 minutes and a beautiful 3.5 year old 9-pt showed up. At one point he was only 15 steps from me. I know that I could have dumped him @ that range with a load of Hevi-13 to the neck!!! That SOB hung out within 25-30 yds for 25 minutes grunting and feeding on acorns before he crossed the gulley and headed up into the top vineyards. All I could do was sit there and watch him through the binos. A few minutes later I heard grunting and he came through hot on a doe's tail. She wanted nothing to do with him. I'm heading back there tonight with my bow...bet he doesn't show again...lol.2 points

If a person buys a tag and is legal they can fill the tag what ever way they see fit, stop worrying about how and what others do. Basically I'm saying, just hunt.2 points

Someone shooting 2 or 3 or 10 deer a year is not a murderer. Someone killing another human would be. An experienced - or even novice - hunter would know that.1 point

nice try buddy, lol. i found a way to get back out and use my rifle. got a new splint today, trigger finger is usable again. (my request to hand doc)1 point

Ok, so if you want an AR, stop trying to justify things and build one. The great thing about the platform is that you have a ton of options with different uppers in different calibers. You want a 223 for varmints, build one. Want to use the gun for deer? Get or put together something like a 6.8SPC upper as well. Worried about noise? Dont use a braked barrel, get one of the proper length with a target crown. If you want something with more punch, build an AR10 and set it up with an upper of any of the larger calibers you want. Its a fantastic platform, a little on the pricey side, yes, but not much more than any other good rifle. Heck, I have more tied up in my TC Encore muzzle loader than I do in my AR15.1 point

I hope to knock one large buck out of that ratio in a couple hours.... if the timing is right I may take a doe. Finally made a good dent in the left over meat.1 point

I agree with that. The rut also has to do with the buck to doe ratio which for a lot of NY is heavily skewed towards the does.1 point

I would get different chokes, pattern if you can and if not bring them with you in the field and switch them out and see how you do.1 point

I didn't know he hunted, we all know you hunt enough for both of you..hehe1 point

One of my sons lives in Jersey City , NJ and is without power . Someone about 3 blocks away has power and put 6 strip outlets outside so folks could plug in their cell phones and charge them .1 point

I know from experience that a deer can hear the click of a Remington 1100 safety being punched off at about 50 yards..<<grin>>...1 point

Great question. I have to agree with WNY, most everything I have read is that their hearing is not much different than ours. From watching them their ears are always on the moving. Constantly alert to every sound around them. I look at it like this, the woods are the deers home. If you hear a noise in your house, you will know if its a normal sound our not.1 point

It was more of a pinwheel than a harvest, but yes- hit him with my truck.1 point

Deep thoughts man,lol Be carefull though...., even if they can't hear on the ultra-sonic level, I'm convinced they're capable of reading our minds telepathicly!1 point

I admit, the last pic is kind of deceiving with the deer propped up on my legs. She dressed 125lbs. It's tough doing a one man photo shoot...gotta set the self timer and run back to get into position before the camera goes off. It's a pain in the butt...lol.1 point

Well thats how i have hunted since day 1, learn and improve.... but all my comments on this thread were never about me trying to push my ethics or views on others, i was just politely wishing that instead of a button buck a big fat doe would be harvested, like wishing someone good luck... and a piece of knowledge i learned over the years on determining a deers age/size....but its been confused and twisted into something i hadnt intended. Either way.1 point

Silly me I though this was going to be mud from boots falling down from stands...... Something I have not had to deal with this year, but most years all my stands are muddy !1 point

Two years ago i was duck hunting on conesus lake, totally legal, and a lady came out and told me " if i wanted to shoot something, shoot her" and harrassed me for 30 minutes. Little did she know i called the DEC, DEC called the police, she got a $3,500 dollar fine.1 point

Give him some time to respond here guys.. i highly doubt he's typing that well right now... Hang in there Tughill we wish you a quick recovery..1 point

I sat out in the rain for a couple of hours tonight. This nice mature doe came out onto the field @ 5:40...I watched her for 10 minutes hoping a big buck would show up. Finally, she offered me a 10-yd. chip shot that I couldn't pass up. The Rocket Steelhead zipped through her like she wasn't even there, taking out both lungs and exiting through the heart. She made it 50 yds and piled up...1 point

Good lord, you just dont get it do you. All Im saying is that an attitude like the one you are espousing is elitist and bad for the sport. Stop worrying about what other guys are shooting, as long as its legal who are you to tell them they are doing something wrong just because its not what YOU choose to do.1 point

I would recommend Anthony Scorza in East Rochester. I know many who only use him, and they have had great results. He has been around forever. He did my mount last year, I dropped it off this time last year and had it back mid January. He charges more than others, but I will not go anywhere else. It is worth the money. Good luck on your choice, and hope you get a great mount.1 point

My first year hunting I shot a bb thinking it was a doe. Wasn't my intention but sh*t happens. My friend who owned the property had advised on how to tell the difference but still it looked female to me, I told him it was just a real feminine looking buck so to be thankful I'd whacked the queer deer.
