DEC just left with the deer on a rack, the guys shotgun in a case and my neighbor in the back seat. No hunting license and doesn't even own a ML. Deer was hit three times in the guts. Glad I didn't have to dress it out. Sent from my SCH-I510 using Tapatalk 24 points

You still need the person to commit the illegal act. Cars make it pretty easy to kill others. Ban them.3 points

what people dont understand is you will never get guns off the street. and please tell me why is it always the guns fault. if somebody wanted to cause harm to another they can use anything they want to do it. I have kids myself and this pisses me off... that this kind of stuff happens. some may get mad at what i posted. but Please stop blaming guns. blame the sycho path that had the gun. these people are dangerous no matter what they use .... The description is pretty vague,so what do you guys think it is,or would want it to be?I would love to see a .25 cal that has enough horse to knock down a yote so the guys in shotgun only areas can hunt during deer season. http://www.huntingclub.com/blogs/articletype/articleview/articleid/14630/categoryid/4098/winchester-will-unveil-game-changing-rimfire-cartridge#.UMky_3cbhHF2 points

By definition a soulution is an action or process to correct a problem What WNY is saying the Problem is NOT the perception of us. THe problem is the freaks that do this kind of thing and all the hand holding and Kumbya singing (no offense Steve and Doe) will NEVER correct this. The same group oh pining for gettign rid of all guns as the solution to this eveil are the same groups that have supported the downward spiral of morality in theis country. Oppose the death penality. The same group that finds no problem with kids spending hours infront of a video game killing police oe listening to music about rape and killing becasue they have a right and freedom to do so, IS a lions share of this problem. More so that any gun could ever be. The guns are not the problem. The attitude that little Joe is so precious and can never do wrong and the parent is evil for putting a boot in hi ass when he screws up IS part of the problem. The hell with this. I am done. I am going home and hug my daughter. I suggest everyone here does the same. God bless and have a great last weekend if you ML hunt.2 points

More people die annually in automobile accidents than are killed with firearms. Maybe we should set up a system where the police buy people's cars to get them out of the wrong hands.2 points

Guns dont kill people. people kill people.. You gonna blame the fork for obesity? We have a culture problem in this country, not a gun problem2 points

To my knowledge they already have these programs in place at least at the local level. It would be great to do this at a higher level like at the state or federal. The key would be to make the incentive (money) great enough for some criminal want to trade his gun for the cash. The ONLY reason I get upset about the gun control nuts going after guns is because they paint the entire gun owning community with a very broad brush. We now more than ever, as members of the hunting community, need to distinguish ourselves as extremely responsible and ethical individuals that enjoy the sport of hunting. My biggest fear of gun control is not being able to do one of the things I absolutely love; to hunt. Does an organization exist or should one be started that is for hunters against gun crimes? I believe an organization of this nature can help preserve our love of the sport of hunting and the implements we utilize, while providing a face, voice and venue where a common ground can be established between gun nuts and responsible gun owners; in this case us, the hunting community. -Cme2 points

nybuckboy - Too early for a gun control rant. Let the news settle a bit. maybe if one of the teachers was armed this could have been avoided. Maybe the wacko had a history of odd behavior and had no right to a gun. maybe it was just an evil JACKASS. but its way too soon to start a gun control rant.2 points

it goes on in 4b every weekend but they use rifles. they know theres no dec presence up there . and if you call dec it takes them so long to respond. and the local cops could care less., and poachers know it . and around here if you call and say they are shooting deer with a shotgun they will just tell you they are partridge or maybe they are rabbit hunting. its pathetic. so you aint alone in this matter2 points

I would also love to see it . I hope you don't use a lot of big words or some of these guys on here won't understand it . j/k2 points

Just looking at packaged calf liver at the store makes me want to wretch. I just can't stand to look at it, let alone smell it or eat it. I couldn't imagine deer liver being any better, so I toss it out along with the rest of the guts in the field. Never tried heart either. Not that there is ever much left of the heart since my bullet usually sizzles thru it. LOL, well some of the time anyway! Elmo, make sure you don't waste time getting to eat the backstrap. I do flour it a bit and fry in oil and butter for a few minutes on each side. You can season any way you like. Once that's done I put some red wine in the pan and let the whole thing simmer on very low heat for another couple of minutes. For me the wine makes the whole thing taste even better.2 points

Tossing around the idea of selling my 12 acres i bought and buying something bigger. Just putting this out there, its not official at the moment hence why i did not post in the land for sale section. i want around the 60-100 acre range where i can really grow into and have even more privacy. Dont get me wrong my 12 acres is mint, deer sign everywhere, amazing seclusion from the road for the entire road frontage and then once you enter the property there is about a 2 acre field perfect for food plots and then the rest of the woods behind the open area. Apple trees everywhere, 300 feet of creek that runs through the property. It really is a nice piece and i looked for along time before i bought it but i really want alot more land. So if i sell it i will let you guys know for who ever is looking. Its in otsego county on the Chenango County border in New Berlin. State land all around the area and the property backs up to roughly 1900acrs of mixed private parcels of land.1 point

Just wanted to give a shout out to the folks at Primos Hunting for backing their products with exceptional customer service! As some of you may recall, I was experiencing some battery life issues with my Primos Truth Cam Blackout(60) a few weeks ago. Besides that, I've been extremely happy with this camera. When I couldn't perform the fix myself, I submitted a simple online request for a repair or replacement camera to Primos. They promptly sent me a return address number(RA#) and instructions to return it back to them. They then immediately notified me when the returned camera was recieved and again when my replacement was being shipped 2-3 days after. Never once did they mention repairing it. Today (2 wks total time from claim submission) I received my brand spankin' new.., no hassle replacement! Their service was OUTSTANDING in my opinion, especially after hearing some of the horror stories others have had with other trail camera manufacturers! ...and they even sent me a free sticker, lol Buy Primos, be happy!1 point

To kill a human being is under normal circumstances is INSANE . Lets start there and then maybe we can have a discussion as to some sort of solution . There are too many people on the streets now that are mentally deranged and this is the basis of the problems we face today . Maybe sometime in the future this will be addressed I dont know or even pretend to, but unless we look at this problem this INSANITY WILL PERSIST. Eventually it will go to cost involved in treatment and care but with a little sacrifice it is posissable and can lead us to a better future, Of course there are other options ,but we must start somewhere and weed out the mentaly deficent , then and only then coupled with stricter enforcement will our future look brighter than the grim outlook we face now .... P.S. SAY A PRAYER FOR THE PARENTS THAT LOST THEIR CHILDREN ......1 point

Here's one for you. Legalize drugs. Tax the crap out of them for revenue. Save a little bit for treatment, but take the rest along with the BILLIONS spent on the unsuccessful War on Drugs and put more enforcement on the street / removing illegal guns. The only ones getting hurt would be the adults choosing to do the drugs and as a side benefit you undercut all the revenue generated by terrorists and criminal organizations by greatly reducing the price to suppliers.1 point

Hey guys... I did not say my solution was the one. I suggested we discuss solutions. Cme is the only one here who has offered a solution besides myself. Contrary to what you may believe or want to believe we have to be the ones with the ideas. His quote "Does an organization exist or should one be started that is for hunters against gun crimes? I believe an organization of this nature can help preserve our love of the sport of hunting and the implements we utilize, while providing a face, voice and venue where a common ground can be established between gun nuts and responsible gun owners; in this case us, the hunting community." may be just what is necessary. How bout some other thoughts on solutions.1 point

Public land is different from county parks though. Id bet dollar to doughnuts that the DEC said state land or state public land and had no idea the person was referring to a county park.1 point

Not this many kids, plus it sure seems like these massacres are becoming a weekly event now. I honestly don't think people nor our government will stand for it much longer. Something will have to give in my honest opinion.1 point

It is not illegal for you to record someone's actions as long as you are the one doing the recording. However, if someone else is secretly recording a conversation between you and someone else without either party's knowledge then that's illegal. Just my legal opinion.1 point

good job with the muskrat, your still showing off your catch and its not portraying trapping in a negataive way, And that alone will ensure you will be able to trap for the rest of your life,1 point

county park over 1000 acres? wow. Why would you ask folks on here what would happen if you got caught? Its obvious, you will get in trouble. You have enough money invested into hunting, why have to shell out an un needed fine and or surcharge? No is no. Isnt worth it regardless. Thats just my 2 cents.1 point

Doe beds certainly have value, but really, that's for rut hunting. I note doe bedding areas, but won't hang on them in Spring because they can change too much, and I usually prefer to use MRI at that time of the season. I may if it is a funnel location or a spot that will likely prove to be a stand that can be hunted more than once to twice at that time. The value in scouting in March and April (I even scout with snow on the ground right after the close of the season), is to find actual buck beds. When I find them, I literally stand in them and kneel to see what the buck can see from that vantage point. I then look at his travel routes and try to piece together why and where he goes, and what time of year he uses the bed. At that point, I find my killing tree, hang or prep for mobile set, and then leave - I don't return until I plan to hunt it, with the exception of maybe finding sheds to verify the buck made it through the season. It is a very productive way to hunt early season. I'll try to glass or shine the buck at various points of the summer to verify if he is using that bed. This year, I had a spot where water and bedding area were compacted into one 5 acre section, so I did have to resort to a game cam since I couldn't see him from a good vantage point and the corn didn't let me glass. I set that cam in June and I checked it twice without ever breaking foot into the actual bedding area. Once I got my info confirmed, I no longer checked the cam. I shot the buck and pulled the cam afterwards. I cringe when people hang a set and then return days later to hunt hot sign as the rut phases kick in. Sometimes it works, but you are relying on luck being a bigger factor than it should be. A mature buck is going to know 90-95 of 100 times that there was an intrusion. The other thing is that hot sign is for hunting NOW. It is so counter-productive to say "Hey, I'll come back here in two days or a week, and hunt it." when they are there... The other thing is people hunt hot sign, and then think they need to back off. Really, it's the exact opposite approach. There are times of the season when hot sign should be hunted and hunted hard. Not just one day and then backing off for a week to let an area "cool down." If you stand approach is proper and you account for wind and thermals, and you minimize the ground you burn...kill that darn buck. He may have not been there on the FTI, but if conditions warrant, be back in that stand again in the a.m. Of course, the time of year to do that is limited to a short week or two of the entire season, but still....why shoot yourself in the foot when you did all the hard work. Passive-Aggressive hunters are most often the best there are.1 point

It really isnt ethical, as the deer can not get away, but who also who is going to swim into water that deep to retrieve the deer?1 point

He was on his property and shot a deer on his land. Deer I was on jumped and ran. DEC wasn't far away and was here in ten minutes. Not much investigating to be done when he don't have a license or a ML. Sent from my SCH-I510 using Tapatalk 21 point

Funny how the little extra in cooking help the flavor. This weekend we had wild rice, almonds and cranberries mixed with venison. When you got a cranberry and some venison together it was wonderful! Give it a try.1 point

Same here. I once shot a doe with a shotgun at about 40 yards, she was broadside. There was snow on the ground and I never found blood or hair until I found the deer. She ran about 60 yards and was hit right behind the front shoulder. I was a little shocked, but learned a valuable lesson first hand that had luckily already been taught to me.1 point

You don't happen to have a lone Wolf climber. I knows guys in the same boat. When I was younger I would shoot everything fill the tags because I thought it made me a good hunter. Now I get some in the freezer and then go out for the enjoyment of hunting. I let a 3 pointer walk opening day just videoed it at 7 yards. I think that is just as much fun. Good luck to ya.1 point
