  1. People can't get guns in China and not once do they blame the knife! March 2010 Main article: Nanping school massacre On March 23, 2010, Zheng Minsheng (郑民生)[2] 41, murdered eight children with a knife in an elementary school in Nanping,[3] Fujian province;[4] The attack was widely reported in Chinese media (called 南平实验小学重大凶杀案),[2] sparking fears of copycat crimes.[4] Following a quick trial, Zheng Minsheng was executed about one month later on April 28.[3] April 2010 Just a few hours after the execution of Zheng Minsheng in neighboring Fujian Province,[5] in Leizhou,[6] Guangdong another knife-wielding man named Chen Kangbing, 33 (陈康炳)[7] at Hongfu Primary School wounded 16 students and a teacher.[4] Chen Kangbing had been a teacher at a different primary school in Leizhou;[7] he was sentenced to death by a court in Zhanjiang in June.[8] On April 29 in Taixing,[3] Jiangsu, 47-year-old Xu Yuyuan went to Zhongxin Kindergarten[9] and stabbed 28 students, two teachers and one security guard;[4] most of the Taixing students were 4 years old.[10] On April 30, Wang Yonglai used a hammer to cause head injury to preschool children in Weifang,[3] Shandong, then used gasoline to commit suicide by self-immolation.[4] May 2010 An attacker named Wu Huanming (吴环明), 48, killed seven children and two adults and injured 11 other persons with a cleaver at a kindergarten in Hanzhong, Shaanxi on May 12, 2010;[3] early reports were removed from the internet in China, for fear that mass coverage of such violence can provoke copycat attacks.[3][11] The attacker later committed suicide at his house; he was the landlord of the school,[12] Shengshui Temple private kindergarten, and had been involved in an ongoing dispute with the school administrator about when the school would move out of the building.[12] On May 18, 2010 at Hainan Institute of Science and Technology (海南科技职业学院), a vocational college in Haikou, Hainan, more than 10 men[13] charged into a dormitory wielding knives around 2:30 am;[14] after attacking the security guard and disabling security cameras, 9 students were injured, 1 seriously.[14] The local men attacked the dorm in an act of revenge and retaliation against college students following conflict the previous day at an off-campus food stall in which 4 students were injured, for a total of 13.[15] August 2010 On 4 August 2010, 26-year-old Fang Jiantang (方建堂) slashed more than 20 children and staff with a 60 cm knife, killing 3 children and 1 teacher, at a kindergarten in Zibo, Shandong province. Of the injured, 3 other children and 4 teachers were taken to the hospital. After being caught Fang confessed to the crime; his motive is not yet known.[16] August 2011 Eight children, all aged four or five,[17] were hurt in Minhang District, Shanghai when an employee at a child-care centre for migrant workers slashed them with a box-cutter.[18] September 2011 In September 2011, a young girl and three adults taking their children to nursery school were killed in Gongyi,[19] Henan by 30-year-old Wang Hongbin with an axe.[20] Another child and an adult were seriously wounded but survived.[21] The suspect is a local farmer who is suspected of being mentally ill.[22] Causes Prof. Joshua Miller, chair of Social Welfare Policy at Smith College, attributed the attacks to stress caused by "rapid social change, mass migrations, increasing disparities in wealth and weakening of traditions."[23] Some sociologists believe some of these attacks may due to the PRC government's failure to diagnose and treat mental illness.[14] The perpetrators may feel victimized by stress due to the rapid social changes[14] in China during the last 10 years caused by the privatization and decreased social security of China's reform and opening period. During this time, more and more migrant workers from rural areas have moved to cities such as Shanghai to find jobs. However because they do not have social security (because of the hukou system), many of them do not have health insurance. Because of the financial crisis of 2007–2010, some have lost their jobs, which is stigmatized in China, and have had to return to their native villages jobless and unemployed. The choice of schools for most of the attacks means they could be copycat crimes.[14][23]

  2. so what would you suggest, a nation wide gun grab, send the national guard out house to house to search and confiscate law abiding citizens guns? I mean really "what are you talking about" the guns are already here? and let me ask you something, how would you feel about going up against (lets just say a 20 year old wack with an AK n 30 round clip) who just kicked down your door with his freinds whilst your standing their with your 3 round capacity shotgun. You see people like you can go on about how we must change society and bring back family values etc and that all sounds dandy but till then i plan on keeping my guns.

  3. In light of today's events. I find it offensive that many of you have taken this tragedy as an opportunity to use these poor defenseless innocent children as a vehicle for you to spew garbage and to promote your personal agendas. I don't want to hear a debate on God or the NRA. Forget your Politically correct comment s for 24 hours. Instead, think of the 20 beautiful children who will not be coming home tonight, and the parents that will never see their children reach another milestone. And the Hero teachers and staff that tried to shield these children. Thank you.

  4. The only solution that will ever work is to completely legalize guns (no pistol permits or restricted buildings) then everyone would carry (even on airplanes and in Washington D. C.) And then bad guys could not do things like this, in fact they would not even WANT to cause they would know that they wood meet at least 4 or 5 armed citizens.... that is the only solution that I can see, we just need to let the 2nd amendment do its work.... believe me I think it would work!

  5. Criminal scum will not turn in their illegally possessed guns. End of story. I have seen these gun amnasty programs first hand. The only people who turn in guns are little old ladies, who turn in their deceased husbands guns and other law abiding citizens who want to get rid of legally owned guns. You do get a few crack heads who come in with either old broken guns or BB guns, looking for a quick buck. The majority of guns turned in at these programs are old long guns. Its all B.S. the news will report about how many "dangerous weapons" were taken off the streets, but its all window dressing. They will never tell you how many criminal gang bangers turned in their guns because the number would be ZERO. The answer is to use existing gun laws and send people, who violate gun laws, away for a long time and do it consistantly. As it is right now, if a career criminal scum bag is caught with an illegal handgun he might- might go away for a few months tops. Welcome to the real world.

  6. you do realize that my "ASSAULT" weapon is the SAME exact operating system as the semi auto rife I was given to hunt with at the ripe old age of 16?? but I guess my assualt weapon is black, so its scarier......you already go through background checks at point of sale...would you like to be rechecked every month? the original clinton era assualt weapons ban DID nothing to curb violence.................evil people will do evil things, if it isnt with a gun, it'll be with a bomb, or a car, or a knife, or whatever they can get ahold off....................so yeah I agree lets illegalize those evil semi auto's.................... turn in your grand dads browning auto 5, or the m1 garand that your uncle bought home from the war..................scary scary things these guns..........................................oh wait, its the person behind it that does the crime, I forget these things since my keyboard speaks for itself, I just type the words

  7. It is a very complicated situation. Especially when the statistics show one out of every five people suffers from a diagnosable mental illness in this country. That does not mean to say that they are actively being treated or that they have even been diagnosed. How about each one of those officers in that school witnessing up close and personal this tragedy. Depression, anxiety, PTSD are all possible and actually likely. That does not mean each officer who may become ill is now dangerous, or should lose his job, or right to own and carry a firearm. Like I said, it's a lot more complicated.

  8. If there were no "Black Guns" I'm pretty sure that this sick sack of crap would have used a pump shot gun, .22 rim fire, bolt action hunting gun.....what ever. The coward had easy targets....little kids stuck in a class room. Piece of F-ing CRAP!!

  9. Back to the original question of this post: How can we get illegal handguns off the street? In a word, we can't! So....Next question: How do we prevent shootings like this? Not sure if there is a way we can prevent them all. Evil exists; we cannot wipe it out. Yet, another question: What should NOT be done? We should not continue to buy into the argument that we need more restrictions on legitimate, law-abiding gun owners. Attacking the good guys won't solve anything! Parting thought: We, the shooting public, have tarnished our own image with the BLACK GUN craze. We have to some extent made ourselves fair game for the anti's.

  10. By definition a soulution is an action or process to correct a problem What WNY is saying the Problem is NOT the perception of us. THe problem is the freaks that do this kind of thing and all the hand holding and Kumbya singing (no offense Steve and Doe) will NEVER correct this. The same group oh pining for gettign rid of all guns as the solution to this eveil are the same groups that have supported the downward spiral of morality in theis country. Oppose the death penality. The same group that finds no problem with kids spending hours infront of a video game killing police oe listening to music about rape and killing becasue they have a right and freedom to do so, IS a lions share of this problem. More so that any gun could ever be. The guns are not the problem. The attitude that little Joe is so precious and can never do wrong and the parent is evil for putting a boot in hi ass when he screws up IS part of the problem. The hell with this. I am done. I am going home and hug my daughter. I suggest everyone here does the same. God bless and have a great last weekend if you ML hunt.

  11. So I have had some backstrap and tenderloin swimming in my own marinade since Wednesday. Soy sauce, worcester sauce, extra virgin olive oil, pepper, salt, garlic and onion powder. I'm going to be putting them on the grill in a bit. Now the downside, my son's friend is over and will be staying for dinner. I asked him if he's ever eaten venison. His response was "no but my dad says it tastes like motor oil." WTF? I told him wait until you taste the ones I'm cooking tonite and then tell me if it tastes like motor oil.

  21. Who knows what goes through their minds? I sure don't, but I never see them miss an opportunity to leverage these acts to the max, extracting every opportunity to further their cause. It's like they consider these events as some kind of gun-control message from Heaven. It gets pretty sickening to see people trying to capitalize on the slaughter of innocents in any fashion. maybe that doesn't bother some of you, but sure is pretty disgusting to me.

  23. I have to say that with this event I am very torn between my beliefs and what should be done. As a NRA member and pistol instructor in CT, I sit here and wonder how this could be prevented. I ultimately support second amendment rights but feel we need to find a way to prevent the "wackos" from getting guns. Born and raised in NYC I agree that if you want an ILLEGAL gun you will get it. The NYPD did a program in the past with gun turn ins and the person would get a gift certificate to Toys R Us and they would do this around Christmas time. Of course the people would only be turning in their deceased husband or fathers gun and they did not want them since they just were not comfortable with guns. I encourage all my students from my pistol classes to bring their spouses or parents with them and usually will include them in the class free of charge as I feel more people need to be comfortable around firearms. This at least prevents accidents. I also encourage multiple levels of gun security to prevent then being taken. My guns are in a safe and also have a trigger lock with a combination lock. It is a very complex topic and very hard to resolve. The liberals want the guns off the street and the gun advocates want no restrictions, but you have to admit when we are talking about humans in the the single digit age of their life it makes it hard to see what side of the fence you are on. From what I understand from the events here yesterday the guns were not secured at the mother's house and I am sure we are going to find that this 20 y/p (not legalese age for a pistol) individual probably had an extensive physiological history. I think educations is a big factor especially when securing them even in your house. I also feel people should be careful with their firearms when you have a family member with a psyc history, even distant relatives. Maybe guns should be allowed to be carried by teachers, just like pilots were allowed after 9/11. Maybe we need stricter laws, but they will not solve anything when an individual goes on a suicide mission either. Anyway just my opinion. Please do not banter me in the blog as I just wanted to share my thoughts.

  24. Is it dumb to abide by the law? How important is that deer to you? I think the dumb ones are the ones who have never learned any respect for the law. Frankly, I have nothing but contempt for the people touching off those early shots. I have great respect for those that don't feel that something is only illegal if you are likely to get caught. You made the right choices.

  25. It isn't mandatory in the southern zone either. See tug the difference is most guys form the sz have no clue about what the differences in hunting the nz and sz are. You do not hear the stories on here about guys shooting 5 times at a deer and not tracking it and finding dead deer all over the place. They just know what we need in the nz because they need it in the sz. We are backwards hillbillies who do not know what we need for ourselves. They are much smarter city people who know it all. Kind of like the govt works. They know what we need more than we do. And most of them that are trying to impose their will, I am betting adhere to the now govt's policies too. Yup I said it.

  27. I am staring at my sleeping 5 year old right now after putting my 4 year old and his 1 year old brother to bed a little while ago. Hitting home? Hell yes I have cried several times today. For the first time in my life I have expressed empathy. In the past I thought I understood it but not until today did I fully understand it. I have kissed and hugged my kids and shed tears all night. I cannot imagine what those kids went through this morning or how their parents are feeling now. My opinion is however is simple. It was not the guns fault. As a society we have stopped raising men and started raising boys. Boys who fell they are entitled to whatever they want. Parents are not allowed to knock good sense into kids these days so we let them rot away playing violent video games where death is measured in a score and posted on Facebook. Mixed feelings will come about but I for one cannot stop thinking about a 5 year old getting shot to death for no reason other than some faggot douche whose parents wanted him to finally grow up and stop being an enabled pussy

  30. You couldnt be more wrong or misguided and are an anti gun advocates wet dream. With the way things are going in our country with government, big business and some of the nuts that are vying for power in America i plan on keeping all my guns and buying lots more ammo and i want my guns to have much in the way of firepower. Our second amendment rights have nothing to do with sportsmans rights and shooting at ducks n bunnies. What happened today is an unthinkable tragedy and makes me sick but i'll thank you to not throw away my rights to protect myself and my family.

  31. You can start by limiting what type of weapons are available to ANYONE. Assault weapons ban bring it back. Can't buy ammo over the internet. When you buy your ammo at Dicks and they ask for you license just smile and give it to them. Do you people realize that if just one 10 year old was spared because this guy could only get off 3 shots instead of twenty it would be worth it..... or are your guns too precious. Yea emotions are running high, I just wonder if it was yours...................I am a die hard hunter and gun owner. I could give a shit if I had to register or go through more background checks. Just think, just think, just think, for a moment ....I here the feds are after that and that-bullshit and wake up. You don't like what I say tough shit, This is the way I feel and I'm just like you a hunter on a hunting website that I love. If just one life was saved by banning assault weapons so be it, go ahead sharks and feed......................oh yea I don't support the NRA.....

  33. While emotions are running high, it does not help the situation to toss about names like crazies, whacko, crack pot, nut job, etc., because it only adds to the stigma that prevents people from coming forward or seeking help when they need it. And, do you really know of any doctors that walk the street collecting kids to feed drugs to? How many parents run to doctors for a pill to control their kid when they say "I can't control little Johnny or Suzy"? Rather than demonize doctors how about taking a hard, honest, look at some of the parents, or lack thereof, out there. There is always the potential for a biological/physical explanation, but there is also the psychological and social etiology. Sometimes medications are absolutely necessary, other times it's therapy, very frequently it's a combination of both, and sometimes it is neither. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, it's a lot more complicated than that. Again, I send my prayers, and now I will remain silent.

  34. I sit watching the news totally numb....Pray for all the families. Lets have some time to mourn and pray. Such a gut wrenching COWARDLY act. Please lets save the gun control issues for another topic. We should look at how kids games desensitize them to life in general. Pulling that trigger has no effect on life and this is what we form the minds of kids with........God Bless the victims and their families.

  35. people who commit these crimes do not own the guns, they steal them as this guy did. He shot his mother and stole her legally registered guns. So we have to punish the whole family for one whacko?

  36. What a sad, sad , sad day. Prayers to all the families suffering through this horrific experience. The quick knee jerk reaction will be to put all the focus on "guns". While there really does need to be open, honest discussion about firearms between those on all sides, the real discussion needs to be about the disgusting state of our mental health system.

  39. As a father of two school age kids, I am terrified every morning when I see them off. What keeps me sane is the mentality that many of us have that "it can't happen in my town". But this tragedy in the small town in CT brought me back down to reality. I will be telling my kids how much I love them and I will give them both a long hug. There are families in CT who will never have the opportunity to do the same. Apparently this wacko was prepared for a long gun battle - body armor, glock semi-auto, sig sauer semi-auto and an AR15. He kills his entire family except his older brother who's ID he stole, and kills innocent kids who did nothing to him. I am a strong proponent of the 2nd amendment but something has got to give. Something has to be done. But rather than going back and forth endlessly about whether an armed teacher could have ended the tragedy or not, I don't know if we need more gun control, or we need less gun control to allow law abiding citizens to defend themselves against wack jobs like this guy today and just two days ago in the mall in Oregon. But again what if a trained law abiding citizens were allowed to carry - this tragedy could certainly have been avoided or fatalities reduced. I know there are those of you who are going to say even trained officers sometimes can't stop someone like that. But I'm sick and tired of hearing about these wackos getting their hands on guns be them legal or illegal and committing these crimes in areas where they already know they will not meet with any resistance.
