  1. Here is another one of those "studies" that I think is completely over-exaggerated. Yes, if an animal urinates directly on a plant, maybe it will die ..... maybe. But, let's get real. How much actual coverage does deer urine actually achieve. Just how significant is the result? I guess I just have a naturally suspicious mind, but I hate to see everyone get all excited just because somebody assigns the word "study" to some of these things. Most likely they penned up some deer and found that most of the vegetation in the pen disappeared. But then, nature's deer herd doesn't live in a pen do they? It appears that some of these researchers have to come up with some kind of outrageous findings in order to get their allotment of grant money for the following year. This is likely another case of don't believe everything that the "experts" and "researchers" are peddling. I think there is plenty of reason to suspect this "study".

  2. So last night when I got home from work, I heard a fawn crying across the street from my house (woods.) I continued to hear it on and off up until I went to sleep at 10:30pm. I just hoped that it's mom would come and find it again. So today, I get home from work and I hear it again coming from the same spot. At around 7 I decided to take a walk with my camera to see what the deal is. I walked only about 50 yards into the woods, through a maze of prickers and the crying was very loud and had an echo to it. Well, this little fella fell down about 3 feet into the bottom of an old shed or shack. It was about a 4'x4' foundation with an oil tank in it. I scared it when I walked up to it and it stopped crying and just watched me. I ran back to the house and told my mother to come check it out as I got it out. We were back 5 minutes later and I got into the hole with it and it was curled up with it's head on it's back. I tried to calm it but as soon as I tried to pick it up, it bleated and rammed itself into the wall. I scooped it up, posed for a quick photo, and tucked it 20 yards away under a big pricker bush in hopes that the mother will come back and get her tonight. I still hear it crying about 30 minutes ago but at that same time, I saw a doe cross the street in a hurry and head that way and haven't head a peep since so I hope all is well.

  3. Its amazing the lack of respect some people have for Police Officers, until they need one! As far as I'm concerned, if you act like some dirtbag punk towards a Police Officer then you get what you deserve!

  6. Ok guys, this is getting a little weird...... again! A couple days ago, I ran behind the house to check cams. When I got to the area that I had that deer follow me home from. I looked over to my left and saw a pink ear glowing in the morning sunshine. I had the Nikon so I snapped a few pics of the bedded deer. Shortly after that, it stood up, stretched, and began browsing it's way towards me. It milled around for a bit and seemed really interested in me but hesitant to come over.... but I know it wanted to! Now yesterday, I run back here again in the rain without the Nikon, and who do I see... yup, my little friend. I only had my pocket cam with me to check my trail cameras, so I figured the best I could do was some crappy video. Well, I'm not used to shooting vid from this thing, so I missed the first 2 minutes of this deer coming to within 5ft of me to sniff me out. As she made her way away, I finally got the video figured out and started recording. A little late, but I'm sure we'll be seeing each other again sometime soon. My batteries finally petered out after this clip, but I managed to follow this deer for another 5 minutes and it couldn't have cared less as I got within 10yds of it most of the time. When it finally got tired of my foolish games, it casually trotted off the way it did the first time we met! What the heck is up with my deer around here, lol! If I keep having them rescued by DEC, I wont have any left to shoot this season! I'll try to get some better pics of this one next time I'm through here! If I'm lucky, maybe I can get her to lick me too, lol! Anyhow, click the pic for a 45 second clip from yesterday, and I'll add a few stills below from my first encounter with her. Here she is the first time we met! Crappy pics, but this is what I first saw was that ear in the sunlight. ....and as long as I'm at it, here's a young buck from the other morning and a soggy morning doe.

  8. I am sure they are red squirrels since there is no season on them. I believe animals are pretty much the same as people. It takes a while for rigor to set in then it breaks down. It's a fact of life, hardness never last

  9. Taking the outlined and changing it to suit your opinions is fine and no one can tell you that your wrong for having that opinion however, that being said the mere fact that you just couldnt resist at taking a jab at others that are in support . and by jab I mean letting it be known that you took the outlined letter and changed it then posting that your changed it and sent to those email addresses. Is looking for an argument. this thread was for those who wished to send a letter of support and you are free to do what you like with it as well as others are but posting that you will send to oppose is for the sake of argueing...

  10. Not my cup if tea, nor do I agree with them being allowed during archery season but who am I to say you can't or shouldn't hunt with a certain type of weapon. Good luck to those who have them or want to hunt with them.

  12. I guess I just get tired of watching people go all ga-ga over every article that comes out with some astounding claim. It seems that the mere mention of a "study" makes people automatically assume validity and god-like truth. And then every so often a study like this one comes along that is so completely difficult to swallow as to put a real strain of the credibility. I do not afford researchers a quality of infallibility and I do believe the term "expert" gets assigned all too easily. I do not worship them as being some kind of keepers of the truth. And I think there is plenty of reason to doubt and question their findings and even occasionally their motives. And guess what .... Even their own colleagues often question those same things and on many occasions reverse the findings. So at times I set my gullibility aside and do question those studies that seem to be particularly weird to me. That's probably something we all should occasionally do.

  16. I planted a couple new trees in the yard about a month ago now. Watered them a few times during the first week and haven't even gave it a second thought for the past three! I'd guess we are on the top side of 5" in the past few weeks. It sure makes for a pain in the azz when the back yard is floaded and the dog STILL wants to chase the damned birds. She's going to need to be power washed.......................................

  20. Well, it has finally come; I start my new job and life in Ogdensburg, NY, or, as the locals seem to call it, "the Burg". Until I find a more permanent residence, my wife and I will be living in a camp on the St. Lawrence. I look forward to working with a new team of people, and evenings of fishing as a way to unwind. Still, I guess I do have a bit of the jitters, leaving the house I built, and raised my family in for the past 18 years. I guess I better go buy some new fishing line. There are bullheads waiting for me.

  21. Spend any amount of time in Oswego county like said above and you will see them. Just look up! Its pretty short order to fill your trapping quota around these parts. Where there are porcupines there are Fisher. Its there main diet for the most part. More common to see them at night than daytime. I have had to release some jueniles and a female a time or two when I trapped and let me tell you that is a very tense few mintues and a lot of hoping they run off instead of ripping your leg apart when released. YIKES!

  22. Ok. S 240.33 AGGRAVATED HARASSMENT OF A POLICE OFFICER OR PEACE OFFICER. A PERSON IS GUILTY OF AGGRAVATED HARASSMENT OF A POLICE OFFICER OR PEACE OFFICER WHEN, (WITH THE INTENT TO HARASS, ANNOY, THREATEN OR ALARM A PERSON WHOM HE OR SHE KNOWS OR REASONABLY SHOULD KNOW TO BE A POLICE OFFICER OR PEACE OFFICER ENGAGED IN THE COURSE OF PERFORMING HIS OR HER OFFICIAL DUTIES), HE OR SHE STRIKES, SHOVES, KICKS OR OTHERWISE SUBJECTS SUCH PERSON TO PHYSICAL CONTACT. AGGRAVATED HARASSMENT OF A POLICE OFFICER OR PEACE OFFICER IS A CLASS E FELONY. It is quite clear. Is it a good law? Who knows. I don't really care. Just pointing it out.

  24. You cops need to stop looking the other way when one of your own isn't doing the right thing. I understand you may be on duty and your life is in your coworkers' hands, but until you cleanse your own ranks, you won't restore that respect officers once had in society.

  25. As someone who is working towards a career in law enforcement I am disappointed in the amount of resentment towards police officers, especially Biz-O-Worlds comments, that's just too much man. I know there's some real dink cops out their but there is some great ones too. Walk a day in their shoes and I think you may feel different.

  28. I had one charge at me like a lion a few years ago while deer hunting from the ground. Had to shoot it out of fear that he was going to attack me and tear me to shreds! Would have got him mounted but the 168 grain ballistic tip did quite a number on the pelt. Did save the skull and tail though.
